1318483 tn?1318347182 An infection anywhere along the line classifies as a UTI (urinary tract infection). UTI is a non-specific generic term. A bladder infection is a UTI. Not every UTI is in the bladder. Nitrofurantoin is the generic name for Macrodantin, an antibiltic commonly used to treat UTIs. I would have thought you would be beginning to feel better after four days on the antibiotic. If you are no better by tomorrow, definitely call the doctor to report this.
Avatar n tn Take all of your antibiotics & drink LOTS of water. Some people will say cranberry juice, my my urologists says that plain water is always the best. And any time you have to urinate, go! This will help flush the bacteria out of your bladder. The best way to prevent bladder infections is to drink lots of water, NEVER hold your pee for a long amount of time, & always wipe from front to back.
Avatar f tn I have compensated cirrhosis and have recently developed a bladder infection. I am allergic to PCN and Cipro and have been given Nitrofurantoin for 7 days. I am very afraid to take it. Does anyone have any experiences with it or can recommend other meds to take? Thank you for any suggestions!
1009876 tn?1326490077 Update: After a couple days, my infection was back, with a vengeance. The doctor I saw before only gave me 3 days worth of meds and the doctor I just saw gave me 7 days worth. Now I have to go back one day after I'm done my medication to send another sample to a bigger lab. So they can do a culture test. But at least I know this time it will be gone. I'm guessing that the first doctor has never had a bladder infection.

Avatar f tn I’ve been suffering from IC for 5 years now and for some odd reason Nitrofurantoin/Macrobid seems to work well for me, even when my urine culture comes back negative. I take it (100 mg X 2 for 10 days) when my IC flares and within a few days the symptoms are essentially gone. They often come back 3-5 months later, but at least it works temporarily. My doctors have no idea why this medication works, but it’s been working pretty consistently for the past 3-4 years now.
Avatar n tn Most uncomplicated UTIs can be treated with oral antibiotics such as trimethoprim, cephalosporins, nitrofurantoin, or a fluoroquinolone (e.g., ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin). Trimethoprim is probably the most widely used antibiotic for UTIs and is usually taken for 7 days. It is often recommended that trimethoprim be taken at night to ensure maximal urinary concentrations and increase its effectiveness.
Avatar f tn short duration course of a basic antibiotic such as nitrofurantoin may be suggested in low grade infection. With the part history of chronic infections, the dose/ duration of the antibiotic may not be irrelevant in the scenario; though in the current situation, treating the primary cause i.e. the fistula may be suggested, to avoid complications.
Avatar f tn I have been experiencing on average one urinary tract infection per month for the past two years. After seeing many doctors and being prescribed different antibiotics, I saw a urologist and had some tests done. My ultra sound was normal, as well as the urinalysis (taken when no symptoms of a uti were present). I then started taking Nitrofurantoin Macrocrystal (a daily antibiotic or taken after sex, also called Macrodantin). The UTIs went away during this time.
Avatar n tn I had recently went to the doctor for a bladder infection. The doctor said the results came back negative and there was a lot of water in my urine. She asked if i could be pregnant, she then ran a pregnancy test the first one came back positive and the second came back negative. She started me on Macrobid and told me to take another test.
Avatar n tn When no bacteria is present you still feel the same symptoms as if you had a bladder infection. When you feel the pain, discomfort, frequent urination, etc., it is a sign of a bladder attack. Interstitial cystitis is also known as Painful Bladder Syndrom (PBS). Have you heard of it? This is where the inner membrane on the wall of the bladder starts to deteriorate and it can be very mild in some patients, but very severe in others.
Avatar n tn I am a 18 year female, and ive been suffereing from a "unrinary tract infection" since november 2008! I have been on 2 courses of trimethoprim since and this has not stoped my pain. I was then sent to a consultant who sent me for a kidney scan and a bladder examination; after these tests I found out that I have "calcification of the kidney". So I was put on Nitrofurantoin for a month but still no real change.
Avatar m tn Oxytoca) is isolated in the urine. It is a urinary tract infection. It also says that the colony count of the bacteris is 1,00,000 cfu/ml. Hence, doctor prescribed some medicines like Uribid with nitrofurantoin in it, Prothiaden M, Montemac FX for allergy and Hifenac-P for fever and also Cital syrup for UTI. My mother continued the course for one week, now fever and tiredness have decreased, but the burning sensation continues.
Avatar f tn 5 I booked appointment to my GP this afternoon she tested my urine I have infection little blood in urine she gave me Nitrofurantoin 50mg antibiotics for 7 days, when I walk I feel flow in my vagina I check at home its mix brownish with yellow? Avatar f tn If your history is classic for IC, your physical exam is negative for a pelvic infection or problem, then we often label these patients as having painful bladder syndrome and treat them for IC with no cystoscopy. Start with the urine culture during symptoms to rule out a UTI.
Avatar m tn A couple of weeks later I developed a urinary tract infection. Urologist prescribed nitrofurantoin for the infection. Immediatedly after starting the antibiotic my ears gradually starting feeling clogged. Now, two weeks later, they are both very clogged (no wax buildup) and I can barely hear. Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself?
Avatar f tn t clear and I was given Nitrofurantoin as doc thought it could be bladder infection. Anyway, after the second dose of Nitro my symptons completely disappeared and I was ok for two days until I went out drinking. 24 hours later I had intense burning in the bladder after urination and bad burning when ejaculating. This lasted for a couple of days. That has settled a bit and only seem to get a bit of burning when ejaculating and a slight warm feeling.
Avatar f tn Bladder instability, neurogenic bladder and non-neurogenic neurogenic bladder Urinary tract infections may cause reflux due to the elevated pressures associated with inflammation. Resolution of functional VUR will usually occur if the precipitating cause is treated and resolved. Medical and/or surgical treatment may be indicated.
Avatar n tn I went to a urolgist and he put me on nitrofurantoin-macro. He also scoped by penis to the bladder and found it to be clean on the inside. Still no change. Do I have a virus that will go away or is there something else out there that is worse.? my symptoms are mild to medium discomfort in the penis, no discharge, a dull but persistent low pain in the scrotum. I have not had sex with anyone since this encounter so I am not passing it to another partner. Any thoughts.
Avatar f tn t wash well afterward, it could also be the start of a urinary tract infection typically in the bladder, known as cystitis. Symptoms are mild at first, and then will lead to bladder spasms (cramping) frequent urination of smaller amounts and painful burning sensations, as well as some flank pain in your back. If you have been on the Depo for some time, it's doubtful that implantation has occurred.
Avatar f tn I have been taking ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for a month now. but still the is no change. I still have some pains. I was diagnosed with an UTI, in the urine and blood test the was no Chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis in short no STI. But and the doctor, prescribed ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for me and my wife. I have visited the doctor 3times and the last tested I did.
Avatar m tn I had TURP surgery 5 months ago and contracted an infection from the catheters (3). I've been on antibiotics for months and little improvement. I've also got a case of epididymitis (nuts on fire). Current antibiotic is Nitrofurantoin Macro. Urologist told me to come back in 3 months while my health and quality of life *****!!! What are some other options for treatment? Original culture was Coagulese negative Staph.
Avatar f tn I went to see a different doctor again for a second opinion and after a urine test he confirmed there was a bladder infection present. He prescribed some antibiotics (nitrofurantoin 100mg) and said if it doesn't clear up in a week to come back. He also sent out the urine sample for std testing. I'm still a little concerned that I may have contracted some STD or HIV or HPV and that is what is causing the bladder infection.
Avatar n tn The symptoms I have right now are, a slight discomfort when I urinate (on a scale of 1-10, I would put it at about a 2). I am able to fully empty my bladder, after I am done urinating that is when the burning starts and it can last for 20 minutes to several hours. The burning has been so bad that I would put it at a 10 and it can feel like it is coming from everywhere on my genitals, not just the urethra. Also I have noticed my urine has smelled like rotten eggs at times.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
Avatar n tn Looking for some advice, have had a kidney infection on and off for the last two months, i have been on four weeks of different antib's and have had renal ultra sound. Ultra sound came back clear. Was back at doc today with the same symptoms, no blood was found in urine sample, just acidic levels were not normal also protein found. I was prescribed antib's but only to take if things get worse, ie temp continues and back pain.
Avatar f tn I took nitrofurantoin for a UTI infection and finished my course on Tuesday morning. Yesterday (Friday), I noticed what appears to be hives (small raised bumps with no redness, they didn’t itch) on my legs. I counted 13 - primarily on my thighs and shins. They appear to be gone today, but after I took my puppy for a walk this morning, I noticed small red bumps on my feet and they itched. Is this an allergic reaction to the antibiotics?
