I’ve been suffering from IC for 5 years now and for some odd reason Nitrofurantoin/Macrobid seems to work well for me, even when my urine culture comes back negative. I take it (100 mg X 2 for 10 days) when my IC flares and within a few days the symptoms are essentially gone. They often come back 3-5 months later, but at least it works temporarily.
My doctors have no idea why this medication works, but it’s been working pretty consistently for the past 3-4 years now.

A couple of weeks later I developed a urinary tract infection. Urologist prescribed nitrofurantoin for the infection. Immediatedly after starting the antibiotic my ears gradually starting feeling clogged. Now, two weeks later, they are both very clogged (no wax buildup) and I can barely hear. I had TURP surgery 5 months ago and contracted an infection from the catheters (3). I've been on antibiotics for months and little improvement. I've also got a case of epididymitis (nuts on fire). Current antibiotic is Nitrofurantoin Macro. Urologist told me to come back in 3 months while my health and quality of life *****!!! What are some other options for treatment? I went to see a different doctor again for a second opinion and after a urine test he confirmed there was a bladder infection present. He prescribed some antibiotics (nitrofurantoin 100mg) and said if it doesn't clear up in a week to come back. He also sent out the urine sample for std testing. I'm still a little concerned that I may have contracted some STD or HIV or HPV and that is what is causing the bladder infection.
The symptoms I have right now are, a slight discomfort when I urinate (on a scale of 1-10, I would put it at about a 2). I am able to fully empty my bladder, after I am done urinating that is when the burning starts and it can last for 20 minutes to several hours. The burning has been so bad that I would put it at a 10 and it can feel like it is coming from everywhere on my genitals, not just the urethra. Also I have noticed my urine has smelled like rotten eggs at times.

Looking for some advice, have had a kidney infection on and off for the last two months, i have been on four weeks of different antib's and have had renal ultra sound. Ultra sound came back clear. Was back at doc today with the same symptoms, no blood was found in urine sample, just acidic levels were not normal also protein found. I was prescribed antib's but only to take if things get worse, ie temp continues and back pain.
I took nitrofurantoin for a UTI infection and finished my course on Tuesday morning. Yesterday (Friday), I noticed what appears to be hives (small raised bumps with no redness, they didn’t itch) on my legs. I counted 13 - primarily on my thighs and shins. They appear to be gone today, but after I took my puppy for a walk this morning, I noticed small red bumps on my feet and they itched. Is this an allergic reaction to the antibiotics?
