niaspan

Avatar n tn But this medication is not recommended to be taken by your own because you may miss some important side effects. Side effects include flushing, stomach upset, vomitings, headache, dizziness, liver damage in some cases.Niacin can also raise blood sugar levels in some cases. Taking the drug during or after the meals can help people to develop a tolerance to flushing and to sometimes decrease it. While you are on niacin, the effect of high blood pressure medicines may also be increased.
Avatar m tn Did you try the Niacin with aspirin to reduce side effects taken at bedtime? Niacin can do wonders on the LDL especially when there may be a corkscrew like protein attached to it and no amount of statin, diet or lifestyle change will impact the LDL but Niacin will. It is referred to as LPa and can be done in some advanced lipid testing. That alone may change and further define what you need to be on.
345079 tn?1299202476 So a few months back my doctor told me I needed to take Niacin(vitamin B3 in high doses basically) so I tried it. Well it has the worst side effects ever. It causes major flushing, itching, burning of the skin. I felt horrible and started to panic pretty badly. Never took it again. I saw my doctor yesterday and she told me I have to take it so she prescribed Niapan which is basically the same thing but in an extended release.
519736 tn?1253986826 I have no knowledge of these medications, but did look up side effects of statins. If it does happen to be a side effect, how long should he wait to see if this pain resolves itself after stopping the lipitor....any help is appreciated.
Avatar f tn Unless you have experienced the full brunt of side effects from statins, you can not state "just stick it out". The side effects are unbearable. I finally asked my doctor if it was really healthier that i went from someone who worked out at the gym 5 days a week to someone gobbling pain medicine and laying on the couch. I had no life on the meds and so, I opted to take the risk.
4862508 tn?1360796307 I've been taking magnesium glycinate for over a year and haven't noticed any side effects. It's hard for me to see how chelated magnesium could cause cardiac pains, but maybe what you are experiencing is acid indigestion from the amino acid component. You could try magnesium oxide, but it tends to cause loose bowels. Regardless of how or why the magnesium taureate is causing your side effect symptoms, it sounds like it's not going to work well for you or your mom.
Avatar n tn 5,186 people reported to have side effects when taking Niacin. Among them, 4 people (0.08%) have Mania. which is negligeable, although in another experiment On Sep, 14, 2012: 9 people reported to have side effects when taking Niacin And Niacinamide, Indocyanine Green. Among them, 2 people (22.22%) have Mania. niacin belongs to what is called antidepressant vitamins http://www.antidepressant.com/antidepressant-vitamins.html As a rule any antidepressant, whether vitamins, St John wort, etc...
Avatar f tn I would check and see if it's a side effect of the meds. I asked about the niacin because that's the effect it produces. That's also a lot of milk, given most humans can't utilize the stuff well. But I'd go with the meds and see if maybe that's the source. It could, for example, be the trazadone wearing off, or just a side effect of it. Meds for sleep interfere with normal patterns of sleep and can cause a lot of unusual effects.
Avatar m tn Side effects from statins do not normally start until 90 days after use and the risk of side effects are less than 1%. Is your doctor sure it's the statins or is he taking a shot in the dark? On a side note, a study was done to measure the side effect rate in 19,000 people, half on a statin and half on a placebo. It was interesting to find that the rate of muscle and joint pain reported was identical by both groups.
Avatar m tn ll need to ask your doctor that question. None of them usually have serious side effects and they are all quite similar regarding effect and side effects. Anyway, why do you think about using statins? Your cholesterol is normal, except a somewhat low HDL, and statins do NOT increase HDL. To increase HDL you need to exercise, or eat healthy. An LDL of 132 isn't dramatic at all and may be corrected through eating less saturated fat and carbs.
Avatar n tn Yes, but you should always talk to your doctor before starting a supplement. Niacin can have some side effects, it can cause facial flushing which takes some getting used to.
Avatar n tn I'm on Simvastatin (40mg) which have some nasty side effects, like cramps and muscle spasms. Can you reommend an alternative?
463841 tn?1207438535 Hello. Well, I had a question.. I've been hearing and reading a lot of posts from people about their experiences with the Niacinamide supplement, and how effective it seems to be with people suffering from anxiety. I just got myself the thing.. but I'm having thoughts on whether to take it or not. I'm currently on Xanax a .5 mg every night. So even if I did consider taking Niacinamide, it wouldn't be advisable to take it while I'm on Xanax at the same time would it?
Avatar f tn I've read conflicting articles saying that niacin is necessary for thyroid function and then some that say it can lower thyroid levels and cause liver damage. I've seen it in some iron supplements and wondered if I needed to stay away from it or if it would be good to take.
Avatar m tn Any change you make should be without symptoms unless you get one that cause too drastic a drop in BP in which case you may feel some side effects like being dizzy or lightheaded.
Avatar n tn Niacin is a B vitamin and is used in reducing cholesterol. A common side effect of Niacin is flushing. The flushing makes your skin red in color and sometimes warm to the touch. Sometimes, taking an aspirin before taking the niacin can prevent the flushing. Don't do this without discussing it with your doctor. Drinking hot drinks or alcohol can also increase the flushing, so it is best to avoid these when taking the niacin. Also, niacin should not be taken with certain drugs.
