Avatar m tn I wanted to also share with you a side effect of Niaspan is gout. If you never had it before, and start to more than likely it's the Niaspan that caused it. My husband was on Niaspan for a a couple of yrs. well, for the last yr. before discontinuing it, he kept getting flare-ups of gout. He started to get it more often than not. Also, the flare-ups were unbearable, to wear he couldn't go into the office because he couldn't put his shoe on.
Avatar n tn But this medication is not recommended to be taken by your own because you may miss some important side effects. Side effects include flushing, stomach upset, vomitings, headache, dizziness, liver damage in some cases.Niacin can also raise blood sugar levels in some cases. Taking the drug during or after the meals can help people to develop a tolerance to flushing and to sometimes decrease it. While you are on niacin, the effect of high blood pressure medicines may also be increased.

Avatar f tn Unless you have experienced the full brunt of side effects from statins, you can not state "just stick it out". The side effects are unbearable. I finally asked my doctor if it was really healthier that i went from someone who worked out at the gym 5 days a week to someone gobbling pain medicine and laying on the couch. I had no life on the meds and so, I opted to take the risk.
Avatar f tn Never replace your established, prescribed gout treatments with a home remedy without first informing your doctor, as herbal supplements may result in unintended interactions and side effects.
Avatar m tn What is the connection between gout and incevik? Is there a dangerous side effect. My husband just started incevik but has a history of gout for which he takes daily allopurinol.
Avatar m tn Did you try the Niacin with aspirin to reduce side effects taken at bedtime? Niacin can do wonders on the LDL especially when there may be a corkscrew like protein attached to it and no amount of statin, diet or lifestyle change will impact the LDL but Niacin will. It is referred to as LPa and can be done in some advanced lipid testing. That alone may change and further define what you need to be on.
345079 tn?1299202476 So a few months back my doctor told me I needed to take Niacin(vitamin B3 in high doses basically) so I tried it. Well it has the worst side effects ever. It causes major flushing, itching, burning of the skin. I felt horrible and started to panic pretty badly. Never took it again. I saw my doctor yesterday and she told me I have to take it so she prescribed Niapan which is basically the same thing but in an extended release.
519736 tn?1253986826 I have no knowledge of these medications, but did look up side effects of statins. If it does happen to be a side effect, how long should he wait to see if this pain resolves itself after stopping the lipitor....any help is appreciated.
Avatar n tn You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
4862508 tn?1360796307 I've been taking magnesium glycinate for over a year and haven't noticed any side effects. It's hard for me to see how chelated magnesium could cause cardiac pains, but maybe what you are experiencing is acid indigestion from the amino acid component. You could try magnesium oxide, but it tends to cause loose bowels. Regardless of how or why the magnesium taureate is causing your side effect symptoms, it sounds like it's not going to work well for you or your mom.

Avatar n tn I suppose I could take allopurinol to get my uric acid level below 6 but not sure of the value given the potential side effects. High uric acid is associated with development of heart and kidney problems - so it may be good to have a good diet. I try on that score with more veggies and fruit- and to drink a lot of fluids - but colchicine has allowed me to eat a burger or have clam chowder without fear of an attack. I suggest anyone out there to try the little pill and water every night.
Avatar n tn Ice may be applied for 20 to 30 minutes several times a day, and a randomized controlled trial found that patients who used ice packs had better relief of pain without side effects.[17] Since gout is caused by crystals, it has been suggested that keeping very well hydrated and heating the affected joint in hot water (rather than cooling with ice) will promote the dissolution and clearance of the urate crytals.[18] Keeping the affected area elevated above the level of the heart also may help.
Avatar n tn m not glad) and I thank you gus for the information. We must all detox the cure for HepC out of our systems. I believe that Gout is a side effect. Hang in there guys, study, research with love and let's keep each other informed.
Avatar f tn I would check and see if it's a side effect of the meds. I asked about the niacin because that's the effect it produces. That's also a lot of milk, given most humans can't utilize the stuff well. But I'd go with the meds and see if maybe that's the source. It could, for example, be the trazadone wearing off, or just a side effect of it. Meds for sleep interfere with normal patterns of sleep and can cause a lot of unusual effects.
Avatar m tn I am not sure these two studies are enough to unleash this med upon the public, especially with the side effects occuring in 25 percent of those taking it. I just worry because we seem to be getting these drugs that do great harm and then after hurting people end up being recalled. That does not sound like much of a study.
