Avatar f tn After monitoring my blood sugars for a while and changing my diet I lowered my fasting blood sugar to 172. This is much better then the 300 readings I've been getting; however, my dad said that my blood pressure readings are too high. I wanted to know how to get them down. I stop using salt and use Mrs. Dash and Lemon Pepper to season food. My readings July 18 were morning 136/107, bedtime 147/115; July 19 Morning 136/101, After lunch 148/111 and Bedtime 144/115. This morning it was 141/108.
Avatar f tn I was told from friends that Niacin helps as well as fish oil. So, over the past 8 mths I took Niacin and fish oil and my new blood draw cam up with a perfect score in the cholesterol area but my Bilirubin total was elevated at 1.4, Iron UIBC low at 102, Iron serum high at 175 as well as Iron Saturation at 63, and my biggest concern was my TSH high at 5.08. I do not have any symptoms. I just received the second blood draw for a possible job in Antarctica.
Avatar m tn Hey Sassie, personally I wouldn't buy my supplements from Now foods. Never know what's actually in them, they don't do well on random testing. They're a discounter, and you know, you get what you pay for. Probably not a problem with glycine, as there's only two manufacturers of amino acids basically that make them for everyone, but just sayin'. There are different theories about blood sugar.
1806721 tn?1554333407 My questipn, however, is about whether statin drugs will raise blood sugar, causing pre-diabetes or diabetes? My paternal grandma has type 1 and my maternal uncle has type 2 diabetes. In the past 6 months, besides rapid weight loss, I also experienced fatigue, weakness, cold feet, dizziness, sudden drop of blood pressure, increased thirst and trips to restroom, low grade fever on and off with left side abdominal pain.

1135275 tn?1586565652 re off to a good start. Take especially good care of your liver and your blood sugar, as they can be adversely affected by meds. So it's good you quit smoking, and are eating, I assume, a lot of organically grown colored vegetables for the antioxidants.
1495437 tn?1288798915 I would recommend 100mg of Niacin along with Bromelin (a pineapple extract that dissolves blood clots and sometimes red spots) and then lots of antioxidants. Niacin has some interesting bonding properties to antioxidants and their release, and if you're going to increase circulation, you want to make sure what you're circulating are things that will help your body and your skin.
Avatar f tn STAT AWAY from all wheat and wheat products. ALSO, stay away from anything containning high carbs or sugar.......You want to eat foods that DON'T raise your blood sugar since high blood sugar caused by wheat products leads to INFLAMMATION INSIDE the entire body. EAT: Besides some meat, you have to eat Cabbage, lettuce, spinach, green beans, broccoli, celery,etc.,.......You see a pattern? ANYTHING GREEN with some lean meats, eggs, yogurt, peanut butter,etc..
Avatar f tn To rule this out you requre an inexpensive hba1c test as well as a fasting blood sugar. Many diabetic clinics provide such testing for free. You might try some alpha-lipoic acid, 1000 mg of omega-3 fish oil, and some slow release niacin. The niacin improves the microcirculation, as does the omega-3 fish oil. If you are paying cash and specify you only want an hba1c and a fasting glucose test it shouldn't be very expensive. To evaluate the thyroid a test known as a TSH is required.
Avatar m tn I'm afraid I can't answer why your fasting level was so high. I can say that the fasting test shows your glucose level at one moment in time. Your A1c tells you what your average glucose levels were over the past 3 months so since that was normal, that's a good sign. There are many reasons that blood sugar could be high and stress is one of them. Also certain medications and supplements such as niacin and steroids can raise your blood sugar.
Avatar m tn The data are inconclusive and I have never heard of anyone having an increased level of cholesterol due to blood pressure meds. Your LDL is very high and HDL is low, I would considers some lifestyle changes that include diet and exercise as well as a statin to help get these numbers down because high cholesterol and high BP are two modifiable risk factors and both will be benefited by diet and exercise.
Tbd What is the purpose of the niacin and should a niacin supplement be administered if the medication does not contain niacin?
Avatar m tn s a reasonable time to recheck blood after getting off the Niacin....a month? Also, note that BUN/Creatine just slightly high and ALP, Bilirubin, A/G,Albumin, etc liver markers were all normal. I'll also be seeing Dr for followup this coming week. Thanks.
Avatar m tn By contrast, slow-release niacin preparations reduce the hot-flush effect by releasing niacin over an extended period of 12 hours or longer. Most of these preparations are unsafe and I do not recommend them. “No-flush” niacin preparations, such as inositol hexaniacinate and nicotinamide, are widely sold as niacin alternatives that do not cause hot flushes. In my experience, however, they simply do not work. In other words, no flush, no effect.
Avatar f tn I was told from friends that Niacin helps as well as fish oil. So, over the past 8 mths I took 500 mg a day of Niacin and fish oil and my new blood draw came up with a perfect score in the cholesterol area but my Bilirubin total was elevated at 1.4, Iron UIBC low at 102, Iron serum high at 175 as well as Iron Saturation at 63, and my biggest concern was my TSH high at 5.08. I do not have any symptoms at all and was not concerned about it until this popped up.

Avatar f tn I was told by my OB to do the test in the morning. He said to avoid sugar with breakfast (no jam, juice or cereal containing sugar) and then to eat nothing for 2 hours and then have the test. His suggestion for breakfast was vegemite on toast. I think vegemite is an Australian thing though so maybe peanut butter would do instead..
1063764 tn?1272821064 t shows they are quite different in action. Niacin is mostly for cholesterol and the heart and blood pressure, while folic acid is essential to proper nervous system functioning, and is in a balance with B6 and B12, which are especially important for mood regulation, to control homocysteine which in overabundance causes inflammation in the blood vessels.
