Nexium with plavix

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium with plavix

nexium

Avatar m tn 17, 2009 - The FDA today warned patients not to combine Plavix with Nexium, Prilosec, and nine other drugs -- including Prozac and Tagamet. The drugs may make the anti-clotting drug Plavix dangerously less effective, the FDA says. They block an enzyme in the body that turns the drug into its active form. Plavix is the second most-prescribed drug in the world.
Avatar m tn According to the FDA the nexium inhibits the plavix from working properly. I also have a stent and was taking the nexium with plavix. My cardio took me off the nexium and put me on pepcid. Google plavix and nexium to get more info on this subject or go to the FDA website.
Avatar m tn According to the FDA plavix should not be take with prilosec or nexium. I'm not sure about any other ppi. Ask your Cardio or GI doc. They should be able to give you the infor you need. I am taking plavix and was on nexium. Had to go off it because of the FDA findings. Am now on pepcid You can also look on the FDA website for more info on that. Good luck.
1274110 tn?1270788561 I am on plavix also and was taking nexium for gerd. My cardiologist told me to go off the nexium because the FDA has found that the nexium or any of the PPI's inhibits the plavix from working properly. I am now on pepcid instead of nexium. I am curious to find out if your cardio's had mentioned this to you. Protonix is in the same group of PPI's as nexium. Google plavix and ppi's or go on the FDA website. You will read a lot about the two meds. Just for your info.
Avatar m tn The mixture of Metroprolol, Ezitrol, Lipitor, Ramipril, Isordil, Plavix, Nexium and Aspro and now Coralan leaves me feeling quite week and lathargic and always very tired. My BP is steady at around 100/60, my cholesterol is below 4. I did used to walk about 2km a day before I started Coralan even though I got angina, but now I feel I just dont have the energy to do the walk to see if I still get angina. Not sure what yer answer might be but thought Id write this down anyway.
Avatar f tn It might be necessary to increase the Nexium dose, but from my experience, this is a very minor issue. The need to take Plavix trumps the Nexium issue. Plavix and aspirin are essential to keep your stents from plugging up again. It sounds like your hospital doesn't have a good program in place for education after an MI and cath. I work a day a week at our hospital as a Cardiac Navigator, as I've had MI's, eight stents, a pacer and bypass surgery and still standing.
Avatar n tn The latest precaution about Plavix is to not take omeprazole with it (Prilosec, Prevacid or Nexium). Hope that helps, but you really need a cardiologist.
Avatar m tn i think to send you home with some nexium was pure incompetence. if they sent you home with nexium and insisted that you follow up with a cardiologist, that's a different story. if i were you, i'd just thank my lucky stars that you had the intelligence to follow up on your pain avoiding a heart attack and possible damage to your heart. just remember, doctors are human and they do make mistakes.
Avatar n tn Recently I had a stent put into a branch and it was close to the main artery and the Dr said the plaque shifted. He ballooned the main artery and I felt fine. After a few days of being fine I had a sudden onset of chest pressure and jaw pain and it was relieved with 2 nitroglycerin. I've noticed chest pressure since then sometimes with jaw pain, sometimes without and burning at times under my sternum.
Avatar n tn I was given no information on Pradaxa. With 5 DES stents...I am considering NOT going off the Plavix. Will this be a problem with Pradaxa. I bought the Pradaxa (very very expensive) but will not open the bottle until I am sure I can take all of the above meds and my Plavix, too. Is there any options for me if I decide NOT to take the Pradaxa. Am, I at risk of a stroke if I do not take it. I do not want to alter my other meds as I need them also. Would Coumadin be better?
214864 tn?1229715239 Rumsfeld, MD, PhD of the Denver VA Medical Center in Colorado and colleagues studied a group of 3,137 patients with ACS discharged from 127 Veterans Affairs hospitals with an average follow-up of six months after cessation of clopidogrel. Approximately half of the patients were treated with medical therapy only and half with angioplasty/stents.
Avatar m tn Since that time, I have had problems with chest pain and stomach pain, along with a host of other pains. I had a second cath to look at my heart because of the chest pain and the heart was said to be fine. Having a hard time sleeping at night and anxiety is building because of the pain. Anyone else have these issues? Also, is there a blood test that can be given to see if the Plavix even works for my gene make-up?
Avatar n tn t appear to interfere with Plavix, but Plavix is a drug that has a lot of contraindications, so I would be careful about most anything I took if I was on Plavix. So if your doc has no idea, as I suspect is the case since moringa isn't commonly known or used in the western world, I would probably try to find an ayurvedic physician. Heck, write Deepok Chopra, he's the most famous ayurvedic physician in the world.
1213000 tn?1280463161 I have osteoarthritis in the knees and neck and some nerve pain that has plagued me since a bout with Bells Palsy in the right front portion of the neck. These pains were controlled with Motrin -- prescribed at 800 mg three times a day. Now I am on Plasurgrel (new blood thinner) and diltiazem for BP and the doc says "No Motrin, No Nexium, No anything" for the other pain. Ok, I don't want to die but how do I handle the pain? I do not want narcotics.
Avatar m tn t done up front, or at least a test to check response - it was just by happpenstance I looked at the genetic test I had done for different reasons two years ago and it had a drug response section. if not for this I would still be on plavix with a much higher chance of problems.
Avatar f tn to an immediate relative of mine with Plavix (has an allergy to aspirin). Though he was allergic to aspirin, they have a preferred generic of some other kind of drug that isn't as expensive for them. We found out that drug would not be good for someone who had a TIA and appealed their decision not to grant the tier exception, also mentioning the aspirin allergy as well. Thankfully, they reversed their decision. There was something similar with a cholesterol lowering medication.
Avatar m tn 49 years old, family of five, and own my own software company. Had heart attack in Nov 08. Blocked artery. No idea I had it. Angioplasty and drug eluding stent. Put on Plavix, Aspirin, Coumadin, Simvastatin, Lisiniprol. Went through cardiac rehab for three months. Rehab went great. In best shape of my life. Then two months after heart attack, with one month to go in rehab, started to get terrible constriction in my throat - around my adams apple.
Avatar m tn I take 40mg daily of nexium daily. I was having acid attacks even with the Nexium, alway at night when sleeping. I have the wedge, extra pillows etc. Garvistan, Tums next to my bed. I once asked Dr. when could I stop Nexium he said I would need to lose weight. I have low iron, low B levels. Thinning hair etc. I already have spinal stenosis. I have been on Nexium for at least 10 years. Anyone out there who's been able to quit Nexium, let me know how and how long it took.
Avatar m tn The usual regimen after a DES (drug eluding stent) is one year on plavix to help prevent blood clots with aspirin and after one year continue with just aspirin (87 mg). However, pooled data from randomized trials show that coumadin reduces the risk of stroke from 4.5 percent to 1.4 percent per year in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and no history of stroke or transient ischemic attack.
Avatar n tn My Dr mentioned me going on plavix and staying with my aspirin even though i just had a scope and was found to have rectal bleeding... to correct this would mean a hemoroid operation which my insurance does not cover so insurance kinda plays a role in the decision also. My Dr also says he would go with the bare metal stent or stents rather than the coated so I could stay on the plavix for only 1 month.... thanks again ed and kenkeith...
255163 tn?1376869746 t really understand the doc not wanting to do the surgery. I had bypass surgery and got 2 stents installed while on Plavix with no problems at all. I think the risk is controlling the bleeding, but it must not really be that big a problem. Gall bladder removal is not the big deal it used to be. One lady I know had it done and just spent one night in the shop--almost like an outpatient surgery--and she was on Plavix. I think they had her not take it just for a day or two before the surgery.
Avatar f tn The risk is excessive bleeding, and the benefits don't outweigh risk after a year with aspirin and plavix regimen. Internal bledding can be deceptive and life threatening before there are any symptoms and require an emergency treatment. There is no medical published literature that supports excessive doses of an antiplatelet medication. I take 67mg aspirin and discontiued plavix a year after the stent implant 7 years ago.
