Taking nexium with plavix

Common Questions and Answers about Taking nexium with plavix

nexium

Avatar m tn According to the FDA the nexium inhibits the plavix from working properly. I also have a stent and was taking the nexium with plavix. My cardio took me off the nexium and put me on pepcid. Google plavix and nexium to get more info on this subject or go to the FDA website.
Avatar m tn According to the FDA plavix should not be take with prilosec or nexium. I'm not sure about any other ppi. Ask your Cardio or GI doc. They should be able to give you the infor you need. I am taking plavix and was on nexium. Had to go off it because of the FDA findings. Am now on pepcid You can also look on the FDA website for more info on that. Good luck.
1274110 tn?1270788561 I am on plavix also and was taking nexium for gerd. My cardiologist told me to go off the nexium because the FDA has found that the nexium or any of the PPI's inhibits the plavix from working properly. I am now on pepcid instead of nexium. I am curious to find out if your cardio's had mentioned this to you. Protonix is in the same group of PPI's as nexium. Google plavix and ppi's or go on the FDA website. You will read a lot about the two meds. Just for your info.
Avatar m tn The mixture of Metroprolol, Ezitrol, Lipitor, Ramipril, Isordil, Plavix, Nexium and Aspro and now Coralan leaves me feeling quite week and lathargic and always very tired. My BP is steady at around 100/60, my cholesterol is below 4. I did used to walk about 2km a day before I started Coralan even though I got angina, but now I feel I just dont have the energy to do the walk to see if I still get angina. Not sure what yer answer might be but thought Id write this down anyway.
Avatar n tn I had a heart attack in 2001 and had 3 stents implanted. My internist and cardiologist both said I would be on Plavix for the rest of my life. I tried taking aspirin with it and it caused me to have internal bleeding, so of course it was discontinued. Now I would only take aspirin if I felt that I was having another heart attack. The latest precaution about Plavix is to not take omeprazole with it (Prilosec, Prevacid or Nexium). Hope that helps, but you really need a cardiologist.
1210142 tn?1266077031 In summary, I would not worry for the interaction with Plavix, since probably you no longer need it, I would be very worry for taking them without a clear diagnostic or reason. If you have got a gastroscopy and they did not see the reason of your pain, chances are that you will get nothing from PPIs. If you have not got the gastroscopy, I would get it before going on PPIs for life.
Avatar f tn It might be necessary to increase the Nexium dose, but from my experience, this is a very minor issue. The need to take Plavix trumps the Nexium issue. Plavix and aspirin are essential to keep your stents from plugging up again. It sounds like your hospital doesn't have a good program in place for education after an MI and cath. I work a day a week at our hospital as a Cardiac Navigator, as I've had MI's, eight stents, a pacer and bypass surgery and still standing.
214864 tn?1229715239 with clopidogrel which has major implications for the millions of patients currently taking the drug. Plavix, the brand name of clopidogrel, is the world's second largest-selling drug, with annual sales of $5.9 billion. The study also may impact the concerns over late stent thrombosis that have significantly reduced the use of drug-eluting stents over the past year. P. Michael Ho, MD, PhD and John S.
Avatar n tn I was given no information on Pradaxa. With 5 DES stents...I am considering NOT going off the Plavix. Will this be a problem with Pradaxa. I bought the Pradaxa (very very expensive) but will not open the bottle until I am sure I can take all of the above meds and my Plavix, too. Is there any options for me if I decide NOT to take the Pradaxa. Am, I at risk of a stroke if I do not take it. I do not want to alter my other meds as I need them also. Would Coumadin be better?
Avatar n tn t appear to interfere with Plavix, but Plavix is a drug that has a lot of contraindications, so I would be careful about most anything I took if I was on Plavix. So if your doc has no idea, as I suspect is the case since moringa isn't commonly known or used in the western world, I would probably try to find an ayurvedic physician. Heck, write Deepok Chopra, he's the most famous ayurvedic physician in the world.
Avatar m tn i think to send you home with some nexium was pure incompetence. if they sent you home with nexium and insisted that you follow up with a cardiologist, that's a different story. if i were you, i'd just thank my lucky stars that you had the intelligence to follow up on your pain avoiding a heart attack and possible damage to your heart. just remember, doctors are human and they do make mistakes.
Avatar n tn Recently I had a stent put into a branch and it was close to the main artery and the Dr said the plaque shifted. He ballooned the main artery and I felt fine. After a few days of being fine I had a sudden onset of chest pressure and jaw pain and it was relieved with 2 nitroglycerin. I've noticed chest pressure since then sometimes with jaw pain, sometimes without and burning at times under my sternum.
Avatar n tn Do not stop taking Plavix (Clopidogrel) without consulting the doctor who prescribed it! Plavix inhibits platelet bloodclotting function, to prevent (life-threatening) blood clots (in i.e. cardiovascular stents). Often dental work can be done without stopping Plavix. Consult your dentist for that. When you stop taking Plavix, complete recovery of platelet function takes about 7 days after the last dose.
Avatar f tn Nexium is safe to use with interferon and ribavirin and will not interfere with the efficacy of antiviral therapy.
485077 tn?1222620140 Also - if you could eat even an english muffin with a bunch of butter on it or a bagel with cream cheese.......something kind of simple it would work. It doesn't have to be heavy greasy fried type foods (thank God they KILLED me during tx I could not eat any of them at all). Or how about even a milkshake or a bowl of ice cream? Certainly is plenty of fat in the cream right?
Avatar f tn Ask your Dr about financial help with this med. The drug company may approve you to either get a huge discount or depending on your income, maybe at no cost.
Avatar m tn Since that time, I have had problems with chest pain and stomach pain, along with a host of other pains. I had a second cath to look at my heart because of the chest pain and the heart was said to be fine. Having a hard time sleeping at night and anxiety is building because of the pain. Anyone else have these issues? Also, is there a blood test that can be given to see if the Plavix even works for my gene make-up?
Avatar m tn t done up front, or at least a test to check response - it was just by happpenstance I looked at the genetic test I had done for different reasons two years ago and it had a drug response section. if not for this I would still be on plavix with a much higher chance of problems.
Avatar n tn My cardiologist would not let my dentist allow me to stop taking Plavix for even 5 days to alleviate my pain due to a cavity .The dentist is bent upon my discontinuing Plavix to enable filling of the cavity or do root canal to solve the problem.
Avatar f tn I had two coated stents inserted March 22, 2010 and have been taking plavix, 81 mg aspirin and continue taking coumadin (5mg 6 days and 6 mgs 1 day a week). I have my blood tested for IN/PTR regularly. Since taking Plavix and aspirin I have severe bruising. I try to be careful but bruise just brushing against a doorway, for example. My dog was sitting on my lap and when he jumped off to the floor the pressure of lifting off caused bruising on both legs.
Avatar n tn I'm planning on having sugery this fall and i'm still taking plavix for a heart attack i had in 2004. Will i be able to have the surgery if my cardiologist refuses to let me stop taking plavix for the surgery?
Avatar m tn He said that Nexium started working very quickly and that it helped with the problems that NASID caused. NASIDS can cause bleeding, pits or holes in the stomach with long term use, and that the Nexium reduces acid and heals the pits or holes in the stomach lining. He also said that eating food before taking the NASID helped with long term problems. Tylenol just never did it for me, and I just the NASID instead. Hope this makes sense, maybe someone else can explain it better.
