Avatar m tn how do i get lower doses of nexium of I'm trying to wean off
Avatar f tn I have had gerd plus a hiatal hernia for years. I take nexium and have for at least ten years. Now I am told I have iron defiency anemia. Reading through the insert that comes with nexium it appears this drug could cause the anemia. Has anybody experienced this?
Avatar n tn I ran out of Nexium and am trying to get by with Prilosec until I see my gastro doc. It's not working very well. Anyone got any tips? I'm taking lots of Tums, but still burning like crazy. I've been on the Nexium for years and would love to get off of it if there is something less physically addictive.
Avatar m tn I take 40mg daily of nexium daily. I was having acid attacks even with the Nexium, alway at night when sleeping. I have the wedge, extra pillows etc. Garvistan, Tums next to my bed. I once asked Dr. when could I stop Nexium he said I would need to lose weight. I have low iron, low B levels. Thinning hair etc. I already have spinal stenosis. I have been on Nexium for at least 10 years. Anyone out there who's been able to quit Nexium, let me know how and how long it took.
Avatar f tn My mother never had the rebound effect. She was on acid blockers for 25 years (tagament for 20 years, nexium for 5 years and also took gaviscon for 10 years). I took my mother off nexium and gaviscon cold turkey and started digestive enzyme supplements and betaine HCI with pepsin supplements in their place. She never got worse only better. She no longer suffers GERD, LPR and is 95% improved with gastritis.
Avatar m tn After months of treatment, my doc informed me it's now time to get off my heartburn medication (Nexium). I tried to go completely off of it, but within days my GERD symptims fire up again: sore throat, hard to eliminate mucus in throat, hoarse voice, pain in my tongue/mouth, and--rarely--pain in my back and upper stomach. I tried to go on once-every-two-days, as per his second recommendation, and while the symptoms are better, the aforemention symptoms are still there.
203342 tn?1328737207 What you're experiencing is probably rebound reflux from going 'cold turkey' off the nexium. It can really be bad, but should start to tamp down when the meds kick in fully again.
Avatar m tn m not sure he could tell I had LPR had I not mentioned to him. Prior to the appt I had been taking Nexium 24 (20 mg in the a.m. and 20 mg at night) and my throat was feeling pretty good. Soon thereafter I stopped taking and the issue resumed so I started taking again. My question is how long can I safely take Nexium 24 and at what dosage.
Avatar f tn I am a 37 year old female with a normal weight BMI. I have been on 40 mg Nexium since 5/2017 for GERD and LPR. I started slowly cutting down November 2017. I am currently on 30 mg Nexium and really struggling. I don’t have heartburn or voice issues again, but I have a dull ache between my shoulder blades. It has gotten worse and worse the more I cut down on the Nexium. Sometimes it is almost debillitating and I feel scared of esophagus issues.
Avatar n tn I have been taking 1 Nexium, 40 mg in the morning, for about 5 years. I don't have a burning sensation in my throat, but I get hoarse and a lot of mucous. Before it was diagnosed, I felt like I was choking at night and lost a lot of sleep. I would really like to get off this medication for the same reason a lot of people do: we're concerned about how it affects our digestion.
Avatar f tn Thanks all for your replies. Perhaps it could be something else, but I wasn't feeling this way before taking Zoloft. I've been trying to reach my therapist regarding this issue. I was taking Nexium about five weeks prior to Zoloft. I've noticed now I can not take Nexium or Prilosec. They make me feel so ill and this has happened only since taking the Zoloft. Just before a BM, I get these awful tingling sensations and a feeling like I want to pass out.
Avatar f tn If so is there another drug that can help with reflux/heartburn that is not a PPI? I had problems with Nexium as well (dizziness and rapid heart rate) so I'm hesitant to try another PPI drug.
Avatar f tn I am a 55 year old woman and I was diagnosed with GERD in 2002 and have been on Nexium all this time. I am concerned about the long term use of taking Nexium for this length of time and have recently went off of it and am trying more natural/holistic things. The heartburn is back along with sour burps and I get some relief from aloe vera but I noticed that I get really hungry a lot sooner than before but I get full quickly.
Avatar n tn while I was on 6-80mg Nexium a day, I had weird and chronic gastro-viruses and I believe Nexium kills all the acid in your stomach and then you are more prone to stomach viruses.
Avatar f tn I suffered from heartburn for over a year and was put on Nexium by my doctor, these worked great and I was symptom free. I decided to go off the medication after about 6 months and the heartburn came back so I was sent for a scope. The scope came back clear, no damage to esophagus or no signs of barretts. The recommendation from the gastroenterologist was to go back on nexium for 3 months and them use as needed.
Avatar f tn I have been on nexium for 6weeks, the doctor then put me on 40mg somac as nexium made me sick. I am on somac for 6weeks now. I had an endoscopy and a coeliac test, negative, no abnormalitys either not even an inflamation. The doctor said I am all good and to reduce somac slowly (every 3 days, every 3 days and then stop). I also had ibs, ezcma, nausea, weakness, reflux, heartburn, dizziness and being tired all the time, migranes and so on.
Avatar f tn U can get over counter stuff like nexium or antacid like stuff which will calm symptoms u have for whatever reason. Don't drink coffee or spicy foods as it will aggregate it.
1827931 tn?1317905317 The FDA gave a warning to only take nexium and other PPI's for up to 14 days, 3 times a years. Good warning too if a bit late! You need stomach acid to absorb nutrients, kill off bacteria, fungi and parasites. My mother was on nexium for 5 years. 5 years too long and the side effects were numerous (some life threatening).
547002 tn?1219797376 Kris, the medication basically tries to shut down the acid pumps in your stomach and when you stop it cold turkey, those pumps can turn on to cause 'rebound reflux' in some individuals. If you're going to come off it, you may have to step it down slowly and then transition to histamine meds for reflux before you can completely stop taking anything. Some people can do it quickly, others can't.
221122 tn?1323011265 Mastic gum... Where could I get this? I'd like to try it. It's nice to know I could use it while still on Nexium. Maybe I could try Nexium every other day and mastic gum on the off days for a few months? Then cut back more on the Nexium if that works? Not eager to deal with acid rebound, since that really gets my PVCs going. But I really don't think it's good to be on Nexium for many years, with what we are now finding out. Thanks. Oh...almost forgot...
Avatar m tn Hi my name is Mal and i have been taking Nexium (40mg) now on and off for about 12 to 18 months (I think). I first started as I went to my local doctor as I was having indigestion/heartburn nad he prescribed Nexium (40mg) told me to come back after finishing the packet which is for 30 days ( 1month) which I did and the indigestion had gone but came back again some months later and slightly worse.
Avatar m tn OOOH, I definitely would not double up on the meds! This is just my opinion, based on my husband's experience with reflux and PPI's, but I don't believe they should be taken long term. If you read up on PPI's on various online articles, you will see that sometimes there is a rebound effect . Here is what my husband did, and he now has his reflux completely under control: After taking Prilosec for 3 weeks to help his esophagus heal, he stopped completely.
