Avatar m tn Have Barrett's Esophagus - diagnosed. Lost Left Kidney 1996. Have had IBS diagnosed innumerable times before Barrett's found. Terrible Nightsweats - no matter what I do, cant seem to get rid of it. During the night change pyjamas at least once if not twice. Get awfully cold. Is there anything I can attempt to help. Have already a tremendously restricted diet - same as for IBS, but more severe. Anything I eat reflux's, even liquids.
Avatar n tn which is the safer drug, nexium or prevacid? This discussion is related to Nexium VS Protonix.
Avatar n tn I have suffered from GERD for several years now. I was put on Nexium (40mg) by my MD, which totally cleared up the problem. She then scheduled an endoscopy (I'm not sure how long I was on the Nexium before this, perhaps 6 months?) which came back clear. The doctor who performed the endo said my esophagus was totally healed and I could stop taking the Nexium. I did and my symptoms returned within a few days. I tried ranitidine - no help.
Avatar n tn My mother was on long term acid blocker nexium (similar to prilosec (omeprazole) but more powerful) and these were some of the dozens of symptoms that she no longer suffers with since stopping nexium... severe major clinical depression, severe anxiety, severe constant fungal infections, homocysteine in imminent heart attack range, severe angina pain, severe stomach pain (nexium worsened her gastritis), sky high blood pressure - given less than 5 years to live by an international specialist.
439522 tn?1214951189 Hi I noticed you have been on nexium for a few years can u tell me how long it takes before nexium kicks in. I have been taking them for about 10 weeks Recently diagnosed barratts oesophagus gastritis hiatus hernia oesophageal ulcer.
Avatar f tn From the posts I read it seems that many were taking above the max dose 4000 mg of acetaminfen daily. Irreversable liver/kidney damage has always been a big concern to me which is why I never exceed the 4000 mg a day. I just had blood drawn yesterday & will nervously await the results. If they tell me my enzymes are higher it will be easier to quit. I think. Have any of you had any damage to liver/kidney damage as a result of your vicodin use?
Avatar f tn Is there something I should do with my diet to help my liver heal? And what about taking the Nexium, will that cause more damage? Urine is still a little dark but better than a few days ago; stools are no longer gray but are still kind of light. And the itching.......
1580703 tn?1651904887 I have GERD/sleep apnea and woke up hyperventilating for years. Is there a treatment for it? Is protonix the best treatment for GERD? I've been taking nexium, zantac, but still have this terrible sleep apnea. maybe I need nexium at 80mg. I would wake up choking once after eating spicy food and also have hot flashes This discussion is related to Acid reflux.
Avatar m tn What is the difference between Esophageal spasms and Erosive esophagitis and what are the appropriate medications for each? Is Nexium or Librax the preferred medication for one but not the other? After having two stents in a right artery almost three years ago, recently suffering from a burning chest pain that increased with exertion and a cardiac catheterization that indicated no progression of the heart disease, I was diagnosed to be suffering from esophageal spasms and was prescribed Nexium.
Avatar m tn My doctor told me to take an aspirin a day. Two weeks ago I developed gastritis symptoms. I stopped the aspirin and my doctor told me to take Prilosec. She said "when you damage your stomach lining it may take a while to heal". Aspirin stopped for two weeks now and taking Prilosec for one week. Still have gastritis symptoms. Should I be freaking out? Anybody know what kind of recovery time to expect from aspirin induced gastritis? Are we talking days or months?
Avatar n tn Hello Ursamere. As you probably know, we're not physicians here, but are happy to share our experiences with you so you can explore the ideas further with your diabetes team. I'm also a long-time DMer - about 35 years. 5.6 is an excellent a1c and as one who's not (yet) achieved an a1c under 6, I admire the work & discipline it takes to achieve that.
Avatar n tn In addition to having been diagnosed with Acid Reflux (GERD), it was discovered that I had somehow developed the H-Polori bacteria in my upper abdomin. All of this was found during an Endoscopy procedure. The day after the procedure, my doctor put me on a once-a-day, taken orally, 40 mg Nexium capsule. I've been on this medicine for 62 days now. I hear so much about not staying on this drug beyond 8 weeks, and my doctor just prescribed an additional 90-day supply. What should I do?
Avatar f tn I have just had surgery for three Kidney Stones and apparently Lithotripsy has left me with the condition of Costachondritis. My upper right side is very tender and swollen. I look like I'm three months pregnant! I have lots of burps and heartburn, some shortness of breath and constant pian. Sometimes the pain is so bad it cuts my breath off. My doctors have told me that due to having 28 stones now and 10 Lithotripsy procedures, the stomach is aggrivated. Could this be Gallbladder?
Avatar m tn Next day awoke with back pain, which was much more pronounced on the right side. Thought kidney stones initially, urine test, no protein. *Doctor prescribed Ibuprofen.* I took it on occasion, but did not take it unless pain was bad. Blood test ordered, all liver, panc, kidney function normal. *High White Blood Cell Count* Pain presented now in right side under ribs, with branching pain to center underneath sternum. Seemed to be associated with meals. Often food alleviated pain.

Avatar n tn m wondering if my pregnancy has brought on this kidney problem (if it is a kidney problem). I had to take a lot of fertility drugs, and I've always been concerned about the long term repercussions. Sincerely, and thank you for any advice you can give me.
Avatar f tn Both from losing some of stomache, Esophageal damage and throat damage, from intubing along with lung damage from ARDS. I am now high maintainence. My Part D plan only allows certain generics during donut hole. My husband is also on a transplant list. Medical costs for us both are extensive. We do not qualify for any help since we always worked and saved for retirement. That nest egg has all but gone. Q. I desperately needed another kind of Proton Inhibitor.
Avatar f tn The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol..
1436579 tn?1283719515 have been diagnosed with long standing GERD and a recent endoscopy showed the early stages of Barrett's Esophagus. I am currently on Nexium 40mg and was told I'll have to take medication "for the rest of my life". I'm 51 years old and in otherwise good health. I searched the internet for "alternative" treatments for GERD and there are tons of sites wanting to sell you a book or some miracle probiotic to cure you.
543791 tn?1216381777 I was diagnosed with chronic esophagitis after taking relafen to rule out a muscle problem. My problem started with an inflamed abdomen and the doctor was not sure what was causing it. He prescribed relafen, I developed the burning symptoms. My symptoms sound like yours, burning and pain. The burning was so bad, I felt like I was waking up after surgery. The burning began in my throat which spread to my stomache. I too was given Nexium with little relief.
Avatar f tn The ultrasound came back normal and my upper endescopy showed Grade A Reflux and Gastritis. The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
Avatar n tn [1] Stage 2 Mild reduction in GFR (60-89 mL/min/1.73 m2) with kidney damage. Kidney damage is defined as pathologic abnormalities or markers of damage, including abnormalities in blood or urine test or imaging studies.[1] Stage 3 Moderate reduction in GFR (30-59 mL/min/1.73 m2).[1] British guidelines distinguish between stage 3A (GFR 45-59) and stage 3B (GFR 30-44) for purposes of screening and referral.
Avatar f tn See your gynecologist again or go to your regular physician where s/he will probably direct you to someone who specializes in things like nerve damage. Definitely do something about the kidney infection. Are you getting treated for it? If not, start getting treated for it immediately.
