Nexium and liver damage

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium and liver damage

nexium

Avatar f tn I was sick last week, chills, aches, unbelievable fatigue. Had been on Augmentin for a sinus infection, just finishing up the script, and take Crestor, Nexium, and Zyrtec on a regular basis. Symptoms started a few days after starting generic Zyrtec, which also caused unbelievable dryness that felt like I was dehydrated (no vomiting, though). A day after the chills, I noticed my urine was dark and my stools were very light, almost gray, and I started getting very itchy but no rash.
238010 tn?1420406272 First, liver damage is not the same as HepC. You can have HepC without significant liver damage and you can have liver damage without HepC. Fatty Liver Disease can lead to significant liver damage for example. Secondly, it is possible to take necessary medication which can give your liver a work out but not necessarily do it major damage.
Avatar n tn My mother was on long term acid blocker nexium (similar to prilosec (omeprazole) but more powerful) and these were some of the dozens of symptoms that she no longer suffers with since stopping nexium... severe major clinical depression, severe anxiety, severe constant fungal infections, homocysteine in imminent heart attack range, severe angina pain, severe stomach pain (nexium worsened her gastritis), sky high blood pressure - given less than 5 years to live by an international specialist.
Avatar f tn Yes nexium is ok to take, i hane cirrhosis and thats what my hepo ordered for me, he did switch me to prilosec only because its over the counter same as prevacid which is also ok.............
Avatar n tn I have suffered from GERD for several years now. I was put on Nexium (40mg) by my MD, which totally cleared up the problem. She then scheduled an endoscopy (I'm not sure how long I was on the Nexium before this, perhaps 6 months?) which came back clear. The doctor who performed the endo said my esophagus was totally healed and I could stop taking the Nexium. I did and my symptoms returned within a few days. I tried ranitidine - no help.
Avatar m tn ooo I know a girl (rachel) that might have the same problems you're having.. upper abdominal pain/upper back pain..nausea.. probably an ulcer, caused by h.ploryi. It's confirmed usually by a test or there's a not so accurate breath test. Usually treated with triple therapy antibiotics. Even though you're taking nexium, h. ploryi still can live and prosper in a stomach..so you probably need that blood test asap. Your primary doctor can order the test for you.
Avatar f tn Hi ! Been wanting to catch up with you. The first rheumy said I have RA and the new one I went to says I don't. My nuclear whole body scan shows most EVERY joint in my body to be degenerative. (does that mean erosion)? I do have that positive RA Factor and have pain. But now I don't know if I may have Lupus. My Lupus labs are negative including the DNA. Can they eventually become positive?
Avatar m tn Many vitamins and supplements can cause damage to the liver depending on the dose. One study in the USA found that up to one third of the patients in a liver clinic used herbal remedies. One of the most hepatotoxic vitamins is Vitamin A and anyone taking vitamin A supplements should be aware that doses higher than 25,000 IU (international units) per day may be dangerous. Most multivitamin preparations contain 4,000 IU vitamin A, which is well within the safety range.
Avatar n tn look its your choice there is a sensible way of taking nexium and keeping fit and taking nexium and eating non-healthy, cheers.

362971 tn?1201987034 B vaccine will raise the viral load millions of points and it will take 9 months to two years before it starts to come back down. The B vaccine will also damage your liver, raise your alt, ast and cause mercury poisoning. Viagra raises the viral load slowly and steady You can take Zantac, an over the counter product; it works just fine and does not raise the viral load. Your doctor will not know this, will not believe it… I have observed over 100.000 people with Hepatitis C for over 9 years.
Avatar f tn Before we have a panic stampede, I think most of us will find at least a couple of drugs on that list that were prescribed by our doctors, and that includes those seeing liver specialists (hepatologists). Many, many drugs are metabolized by the liver and are therefore can *potentially* cause liver damage, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take them if prescribed by a liver specialist. Take acetaminophen, for example.
Avatar f tn People can have elavated readings but have little or no damage and you can have normal readings but have damage.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I've been feeling nauseous a lot after my liver damage after the tracheotomy. I had to lie down even though I took bentyl, nexium and ondanestron and it didn't help. then I felt better after taking some oxygen on the ventilator. last night I slept with a low ventilator setting with diamox and klonopin so maybe that's the reason? it's so bad I can't work or study.
Avatar n tn my brother-in-law has cancer of the esophagus and his doctor said it could have been from the drug that he was taking and the drug was nexium. have you heard about this link of anti-acid medication to cancer?
Avatar f tn After ten years of no use, is it possible to have residual effects? ie- 15 years on lortab, no liver problems and no longer on Lortab. After 10 years off, liver problems start showing. Would it or would it not have anything to do with the hydrocodone? Sorry for all of the questions, I am always confused. I really wish my doctor would be ok with prescribing me something WITHOUT an APAP. It'd really be great to be able to allow myself to take medication when I am in a lot of pain.
Avatar f tn I have had normal liver enzyme test and a normal ultrasound and ct scan, but I still have extreme bloating. This has been going on for months now. I worry because I binge drank on a nightly basis for about an 8 year span, 3-5(sometimes more) glasses of wine and such. Should I be worried that I have liver damage that is just not showing up? I have changed my diet significantly ( no dairy or gluten) but I am still very bloated. I am sick with worry that I have caused permanent damage.
Avatar f tn The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol..

1012981 tn?1322603293 My brother has been in the hospital for 12 days for liver damage. His skin and eyes are yellow, abdomen pain and swelling of the stomach. They drained off 12 liters of fluid from stomach area. He's has dementia, no communicating with him that makes any sense. In this situation what is his chance to make it through this? The doctors and nurses are not saying much, but wait and see.

Avatar n tn for a checkup yesterday and the ALT liver function test was high. The other liver tests were normal just that one was high. The Dr. thinks it is from my acid reflux medication and is changing that but I rarely take it. Could it be the Darvocet? Sometimes I take one then another before the four hours are up for the next dose but mostly only one at a time. I just thought as long as I only took the recommended amount I wouldn't damage my liver.
Avatar m tn I have been taking 3 to 4 vics a day. They are 10mg-660's. I don't drink, am I trashing my liver?? 1691630 tn?1329366215 Recently I have noticed after being slightly constipated, and working out, a lot of pain/soreness in that area, and in my right lower back. I was curious if I might have damaged my liver awhile back, and maybe symptoms are showing now? I know the liver heals itself though, so I am not sure if I should just wait for it to still heal, or if I should get it checked out? Thanks for your help!
