Nexium and calcium

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium and calcium

nexium

Avatar n tn I think the confusion about all of the PPIs, including nexium, is that most docs prescribe PPIs without a lot of testing and without that testing it's possible that if someone feels better taking the nexium and stays on it longterm without any testing being done, it could end up masking a more serious problem - like stomach cancer.
Avatar f tn ve been on it ever since, until now.. Nexium eats your calcium, my bones have started to feel like they ache so I started drinking almond milk and drink protein shakes to get the probiotics I need to help the acid and help me eat. My body aches, bones do, and I'm worried that I could developed a type of bone cancer. I didn't ask my mom because she thinks my anxiety screws me in the head makes me worry about 'stupid' stuff.. I just need to know.. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Nexium itself does not cause bone loss, but it may decrease the absorption of drugs and vitamins. Nexium may decrease the absorption of calcium and vitamin D leading to bone loss.
Avatar f tn Natural remedies for heart burn, as nexium is only a bandade solution, calcium citrate, greens drinks, chlorophyll, and baking soda 1/2 tsp 3 x day. If you are sensitive to sodium then take no salt as well as the baking soda.
Avatar m tn Some drug companies will supply the drug for those who can't afford it. Find out who makes nexium, and contact them It sounds like you really need the nexium, and should make it a priority. Ask your Dr for samples, also. The sooner you start taking it the sooner you will feel better. May even help the night sweats, who knows. Just get the med!
Avatar f tn I have had gerd plus a hiatal hernia for years. I take nexium and have for at least ten years. Now I am told I have iron defiency anemia. Reading through the insert that comes with nexium it appears this drug could cause the anemia. Has anybody experienced this?
Avatar n tn The active components in Nexium are esomprazole magnesium and in Prilosec are Omeprazole Magnesium. Also, Nexium comes in 20 mg and 40 mg capsules and Prilosec is sold over the counter in 20 mg tablets. My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me.
Avatar f tn I did find a small group with similar symptoms but my Doc said it was not the Nexium. I stopped it and within 4 days, the flank and thigh pain were gone. I was later put on Omeprazole, 40 mg 2x a day fir the past few months. Not sure yet, but my low back muscles are killing me. I do have Osteo and my Endo doc told me to take B-12, Vitamin E and Calcium as I won't take Fisomax or Actonel. You may consider this.
1274110 tn?1270788561 I am on plavix also and was taking nexium for gerd. My cardiologist told me to go off the nexium because the FDA has found that the nexium or any of the PPI's inhibits the plavix from working properly. I am now on pepcid instead of nexium. I am curious to find out if your cardio's had mentioned this to you. Protonix is in the same group of PPI's as nexium. Google plavix and ppi's or go on the FDA website. You will read a lot about the two meds. Just for your info.
Avatar f tn Do not take Cipro with calcium, milk, yogurt, probiotics or with Nexium (which contains magnesium). Cipro is a quinalone, and is effective against mycobacteria, which don't have cell walls, but is not effective against other many strains of bacteria. The taking of an anti-viral is a mixed blessing. Go to the FDA site for information on Valtrex. A culture should have been taken, but this isn't done very often these days.
Avatar f tn Had been on Augmentin for a sinus infection, just finishing up the script, and take Crestor, Nexium, and Zyrtec on a regular basis. Symptoms started a few days after starting generic Zyrtec, which also caused unbelievable dryness that felt like I was dehydrated (no vomiting, though). A day after the chills, I noticed my urine was dark and my stools were very light, almost gray, and I started getting very itchy but no rash.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever had any success using probiotics for acid reflux and if so, which one should I try? I’ve been taking the prescription form of Nexium for a long time now and lately it doesn’t seem to be helping.
Avatar m tn Recently I learned that it can reduce uptake of calcium and have a negative effect on bones. After how long period of taking Esomeprazole this negative effect can occur? How about with other parts of body having calcium, e.g., teeth, quality of saliva, muscle contraction, etc? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I have had this since the beginning of tx, but is is extremely painful and worse now. My doc has prescribed Levsin and Nexium. Nexium makes my joints hurt, so I stopped taking it. Does anyone know of anything I can do or take to make me able to exist w/out pain and GI inflamation? Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn I'd suggest adding calcium and vitamin D to your diet. I'd also suggest a bone scan and blood tests to determine if you are, in fact, losing bone density. I have Barrett's E. also, and I wasn't aware the condition could be healed, but it could be arrested. I'm under the impression that the cell change is permanent.
Avatar n tn while I was on 6-80mg Nexium a day, I had weird and chronic gastro-viruses and I believe Nexium kills all the acid in your stomach and then you are more prone to stomach viruses.
Avatar n tn I posted her in 2008. I've learned a lot since. I think Prevacid is a PPI. Ask your pharmacist. PPI's inhibit the absorbtion of calcium. I asked my gastrointerologist and he said "yes it does". I read that people who take PPI's for a long time, should take small breaks of treatment so they can absorb calcium. I'm NOT telling anyone to do this-follow your doctor's advise. I also had my Vit.D checked and it was extremely low.
Avatar m tn I infrequently have stomach pain, pop a nexium, and its like a magic bullet. Not only cures the pain, but I have the best dreams and generally well being feeling. I was thinking that the stress of life leads to acid production and that the nexium fixes (tricks) the brain into thinking more positive thoughts or whatever, thereby stopping the cycle of stress and acid production. Anyway, it really works well for me.
Avatar m tn In many cases, problem such as gastritis and esophageal erosion due to GERD precede the development of esophageal spasms. It's thought that the erosive process allows the acid to penetrate through to the underlying nerves and in some manner irritate them enough to cause spasms of the esophagus. Spasms are the presence of uncoordinated muscular movements within the esophagus that can result in a lot of chest pain that often appears to be connected with the heart.
Avatar m tn My mother lost weight (without changing her diet) when she stopped nexium and gaviscon and started digestive enzymes and betaine HCI with pepsin. I had a look online about this based on the fact that lower stomach acid is a cause of poor digestion. A quick google search and i found the article "Poor Digestion Can Make You Fat" by William McKenna. Hmmm. So can you have your aussie hamburgers and lose weight too? If you digest your food well the odds are better...
Avatar m tn My main worry was that I wanted to try it again but was afraid that with all the supplements and then the nexium and levo that it might not be a good thing?
1569985 tn?1328247482 t seem to have as much fatigue and lightheadedness as when I took Nexium, and my food seems to digest better. I try to take the calcium/magnesium antacids only when needed, and I'm only having a little reflux every other day. So far, so good. I'm not depleting my body of minerals and vitamins anymore, and am not as likely to get infections or broken bones as easily as when I was on Nexium. I still have a pounding heart at times (just a feeling that my heart is beating harder).
Avatar f tn had a ultrasound done a couple months ago, which was normal. i am 35, on nexium 40 mg as well as calcium, vitamin b complex (two a day), vitamin c, vitamin e as well as fish oil. it does affect my knee as well. i wear heels (2") during the workday..........my hands and feet also tingle at times...........and i am quite fatigued. thanks for any suggestions.
Avatar m tn Low stomach acid reduces absorption of nutrients such as iron, B12, folate, calcium and zinc; affects digestion of protein, carbohydrates and fat; and increases the risk of bacterial overgrowth and fungal infections. I posted a lot of info on another thread about reflux and treatment options: http://www.medhelp.
679466 tn?1247006054 Prilosec and Nexium Heartburn can be uncomfortable, but heart attacks can be fatal, which is why the FDA has investigated a suspected link between cardiac trouble and the acid-reflux remedies Prilosec and Nexium. In December 2007, the agency concluded that there was no "likely" connection. Translation: The scientific jury is still out. In the meantime, there are other reasons to be concerned.
Avatar f tn When I tapered off the Nexium meds and used a simple, over-the-counter antacid (containing calcium and magnesium) as needed, the PVCs lessened. When I ate carefully and finally stopped Nexium completely (using the OTC antacid only when needed and in small amounts) the PVCs went away completely. I've been free of them for almost two years now.
