Nexium and broken bones

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium and broken bones

nexium

Avatar f tn Hello, I am 16 turning 17 in May. I started taking Nexium in 2013 in August. I have a severe case of Acid Reflux. My esophagus is mildly burned. I have no ulcers. Ever since I was 5 I had acid reflux disease for years we couldn't figure it out neither could my mom she just thought I had bad morning stomach aches until she became an EMT paramedic in 2010, ever since she figured it out we've been looking for medicine to help.
Avatar n tn Nexium itself does not cause bone loss, but it may decrease the absorption of drugs and vitamins. Nexium may decrease the absorption of calcium and vitamin D leading to bone loss.
Avatar n tn If you have had a vagotomy, taking Nexium is not advised, A vagotomy reduces acid production and the Nexium also reduces acid production. My advice, having gone through the same surgery ,is to stop taking the Nexium, which by the way is not recommended for use more than 14 days. Take a fiber supplement mixed with water and a teaspoon of cider vinegar before every meal . If you should have occasional acid stomach symptoms, take regular Tums.
Avatar m tn Hi...many of the meds for GERD/acid reflux deplete our system of the vitamins and minerals we need....they can also make it difficult to absorb them in a natural way or by supplementation..... But, u should be looking to ur PCP to do blood labs to make sure all levels r where they need to be. Magnesium and vit D go hand in hand and many times the drs will say vit d is low but not too many will say u also need the magnesium.... So ask what dose might be good for u to add....
Avatar f tn The question is...When bones and joints are severely deformed, and they break, can they be repaired..at least to their previous deformed state?
Avatar m tn Now i am worried about the joint of broken bones. My question is that how will the broken bones joint if we don't use any support or sling? Could you please *****/check the treatment process? Is it going to perfect for recovering?
Avatar n tn They apparently interfere with the way the body absorbs calcium, which can affect the strength of the bones and make them more prone to fracture. The study found that people who took either PPIs or histamine blockers once daily for a year or longer had an increased risk of hip fracture. The risk was even greater for those who took two doses of PPIs daily to control acid reflux.
Avatar m tn s has healed completely, but I am concerned that continued use of Nexium may result in loss of bone and eventual hip fracture. I take calcum, vitamin D, (and other supplements) and exercise regularly, but I can feel my bones "thinning down" (fingers and toes). Is there anything else I should be doing to keep my bone strength up?
Avatar f tn He prescribed muscle relaxers (baclofen) to see if I was having muscle spasms in my chest and Nexium for heartburn, no improvement. And most recently the Ibuprofen 3 times a day for 3 weeks for costochondritis. As I've said in my previous post...last month was by far the worst. 7 attacks and the pain in between attacks was worse. Pain is also spreading up to right above my collar bones during attacks. But you still believe heart burn or acid reflux could be the cause of the pain?

Avatar n tn All species have the ability to heal their broken bones with the proper stabelization, and depending on the type of fracture. Most local zoo's and wildlife rehabilitators have veterinarians that treat their animals. Call a zoo or wildlife rehabilitator to see if they can help.
Avatar f tn In August 2011, I fell from a window (30 ft) escaping a house fire. Among my broken bones were my L1 and L5 vertebra, my tailbone, my pelvis, and my right hip. Over 18 mos later I'm back on my feet and at age 25, my husband and I are expecting our first child. I'm 6 1/2 weeks pregnant and going to the doctor next week for my first checkup. I have pins in my pelvis and more metal in my hip that aided in the healing process.

Avatar m tn I had awful bone pain when I was on Neupogen. I've always contended for me, the side effects from Neupogen were as bad if not worse than those from antiviral therapy. It stimulates the colonies of white stem cells within the bone marrow causing the level of neutrophils in the blood to rise. It is common to have aching bones and joints for 2-3 days duration starting 1-2 days after the start of the injections.
Avatar n tn Hi, probably it is cervical spondylosis. “Cervical spondylosis results from chronic degeneration of the cervical spine including the cushions between the neck vertebrae (cervical disks) and joints between the bones of the cervical spine. There may be abnormal growths or "spurs" on the vertebrae (the bones of the spine). These accumulated changes caused by degeneration can gradually compress one or more of the nerve roots.
Avatar m tn Recently I learned that it can reduce uptake of calcium and have a negative effect on bones. After how long period of taking Esomeprazole this negative effect can occur? How about with other parts of body having calcium, e.g., teeth, quality of saliva, muscle contraction, etc? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Hello, I broke my arm yesterday and got a cast, I broke both bones in the root of my hand. I am wondering if anyone can suggest some healing techniques like something to help bones and tissue heal faster.
Avatar n tn I guess the bones that are broken are the proximal bones of the pinky, ring and middle finger.

1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.
Avatar n tn LOL! Sorry, I'm not laughing "at" you, but rather "with" you. I had a dog who buried half-chewed rawhide bones all over the house - in potted plants, behind curtains, even under furniture cushions. It's an instinctive behavior for dogs, and some dogs simply have a higher drive for that kind of behavior. That said, I suspect your dog may be a bit bored and frustrated.
Avatar f tn It is also a very deep shade of blue and hurts when I put the slightest pressure on it. Is it broken or did a blood vessel pop?
Avatar n tn I broke two fingers on my right hand five weeks ago and i am still not able to use them very stiff.
Avatar n tn I broke my tibia and fibula on oct 10th/2010, and had surgery, and plates and screws put in on both bones. It is now january 6th/2011. Im still not walking, or putting any pressure on it, and the doctor said that it is healing very slowly.. when i take off my boot brace, my foot is very crooked when it is flat on the ground. the doctor doesnt seem to know what is wrong. he said that the ex-ray looks straight, and everything looks good. it looks like my foot is just flopping over to the side..
Avatar m tn If the fracture is not out of position, a simple cast may be sufficient for treatment. If the fracture is out of position, then surgery may be recommended to realign the broken bones, and stabilize them with screws or pins. The calcaneus is the bone in the back of the foot, commonly referred to as the heel bone. Calcaneus fractures are almost always the result of high-energy injuries. They usually occur as a result of a fall from a height, such as falling from a ladder.
Avatar f tn Go for proper asepsis and follow up for post operative examination after one day and one week. Stitches will be removed after 2 weeks and some stitches will get absorbed. Take pain killers for 7-10 days. You should keep your hand and wrist elevated above the level of your heart for several days to avoid swelling and throbbing. Keep it propped up on a stack of pillows when sleeping or sitting up. Take care!
Avatar f tn Such a hard situation but you have to be safe. Bruises and broken bones and forcing you to spend hours watching porn and getting him off is just not okay. Let alone all of his other issues. I really feel for you and you are 'living in fear'. Get out. How can we help you?
