Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin dosing information

neurontin

382218 tn?1341181487 I've asked this same question before about Neurontin, and now wondering the same thing about Lyrica, specifically, is it preferable to divide dosing twice or 3x daily? I am taking 150mg morning and again at night. I am wondering if anyone has better effect from taking this med morning, afternoon and night? BTW, so far, it seems to be working better than Neurontin. I am still weaning off Neurontin and down to 300mg 3x per day (down from 3600mg daily).
Avatar f tn I saw a Neurologist on Monday, a Physiologist on Tuesday. Together between these doctors we have developed a plan to treat me & to continue trying to find out what's wrong. I finally feel like I'm being treated, and someone wants to find the cause. The physiologist is great. I was put on Neurontin & Darvocet for the pain. I've taken darvocent before, so I know how it affects me - no problems there.
Avatar f tn I guess it works well for some people and for others the neurontin did better. It costs so much more than the neurontin even with my insurance. I no longer take either of these and can not tell much of any difference with my nerve pain. I think it really does depend on the individual, not everybody responds the same to the same med. Sorry I couldn't be more positive for you with the Lyrica, I do hope it works great for you.
475300 tn?1312423126 I have had bad withdrawal symptoms from coming off of them too fast. I am not trying to scare you, but I would do your best to keep to your dosing schedule. If you plan to come off of them talk to your doctor. He or she will help you plan a cessation program. Usually it's anywhere from 300mg decreases per week to 100mg decreases per every three days towards the end in order to avoid side effects. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi j503, I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad that you have found this Forum. I nedd to let you know taht there are NO Doctors on this Forum ONLY CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with their own expertise and experience that they have gained from their own Pain issues. I'm sorry that you aren't getting any relief from your Neurontin.
Avatar f tn I had been on different preventative meds for headaches (nortryptyline, depakote, lyrica, topomax) for 5 yrs but stopped due to side effects. I have not tried neurontin and was prescribed this by my family physician. I am nervous about taking it because I really experience side effects from anti-serizure drugs. Is this a good drugs for my problems? Can you suggest anything else I could do? A Pain Management dr that I went to suggested facet joint injections.
Avatar n tn But if you still have anxiety maybe you should switch to klonopin, that what I did. 1200mg neurontin 1mg klonopin 20 mg lexapro, every morning and 600mg neurontin and 1mg klonopin in the eve. Neurontin has shown to be a mood stabilizer and good for anxiety. It helps...
329994 tn?1301663248 If neurontin has helped in the past to relieve your symptoms, which it sounds like it does, this suggests that your pain is neuropathic, meaning arising from the nerves. Neurontin dosing may need adjusting which you should discuss with your physician. (2) If symptoms migrate (move from one place to the other) and are intermittent, causes might include seizures, migraine disorder or metabolic problems such as low calcium.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I have done that when mine was high and then gone back to regular dosing. I hope you find the problem quickly. Let us know what you find out if you feel it would be of help to others on this drug. BTW, I am doing better on 1/2 of a 25 mg. Atenolol at night and nothing thru the day. My heart rate is up a little and I am not used to that, so I'm feeling a little hyper. I am hoping it will level out and I will feel more energetic. My dizzy spells are also less.
Avatar n tn I would like information about the abuse of neurontin. I have a teen who has been experimenting with this drug and I am told it is now a popular street drug. I know it is not a narcotic, but what would be the effect on a person who it is not prescribed to.
Avatar n tn 1 of 3 posts to this question for the experts: I've been taking about 6 Percocet 7.5's &/or Hydrocodone 7.5-10mg 5x's a day for 4 months now for chronic pain. I'm all out & can't get any filled till 3-3 & would like to try my Neurontin 600mg tid to help with the opiate w/d symptoms. I can go get my Rx for Neurontin this am & only have one 7.5 Percocet left. Planning to take 1/2 now & 1/2 at 10am.
1207048 tn?1282174304 Neurontin has a huge dosing range with the maximum recommended dose being 3600mg per day. Most people feel relief by 1800mg per day or so. I would have to look it up to see if it works by establishing a level that must be maintained. If that is correct, then once a day would not likely be effective. I suggest you discuss this with your pharmacist. It truly sounds like he is using it as a sleep aid for the discomfort.
5954444 tn?1377473390 See if your doctor can write you a prescription for some Requip for restlessness, Neurontin for anxiety and malaise, some Flexeril or Soma for a few weeks for muscle spasms and maybe some Seroquel low dose, for sleep. Lofexidine is not available in the US but it is very similar to Clonidine so it will be helpful for the creepy-crawly feeling and control of blood pressure variations. It will make your withdrawals easier. Valerian and Magnesium is sometimes helpful remedies over the counter.
1241508 tn?1313006082 ) without that information they might not know how to answer your question. Either way, I do hope that someone can provide you with a helpful answer. I think that you might have to elaborate though on what and where you are using it for. In addition to anything I have mentioned, please keep in mind, that while I or others may have extensive knowledge in many areas, you should always seek professional medical advice from your own physician, as it pertains to medical conditions or concerns.
Avatar f tn Is there anyone on here that would be able to answer a few questions for me regarding Neurontin? I did read a few of the older posts and articles on here which actually lead me to have more questions. I'm kind of wondering if maybe I am under dosed based on what I have read. (I have had this issue with other meds with my neuro). I also have some questions regarding missed doses and I can't seem to find any clear answers in the literature. Thanks.
Avatar m tn t been effective so I am planning to switch to Neurontin. What is the average dose of Neurontin for pain management? More specifically, with a chronic pain level between 5-7. Is there a database for Neurontin dosage? I will be ramping to 300mg of Neurontin per day but am wondering if that's too conservative.
382218 tn?1341181487 Having to sleep and get up at precise times and plan your life around this is horrible, and in my opinion should be avoided if at all possible. Neurontin is not the only act in town and you're already on a high dose. Do you think it's helping at all? And does it seem to wear off at or before the times you normally would take it? There are a lot of pain meds out there. Most people with neuropathic pain are now on Lyrica, which is sort of Son of Neurontin.

Avatar f tn Hi, If I don't stay on a schedule for pain medications does that then mean that I will wind up in more pain or behind the pain for some period of time? I have just been switched up on pain meds and I have noticed that if I don't take the pain medication within a 4 to 5 hour window I wind up with extreme pain and it can take me most of the day to get back to the point where I can handle the pain. I don't know if this is just me or if something else is going on.
Avatar m tn I mentioned neurontin awhile back. There was a news episode where a clinic was using it as part of a detox plan. I went from taking around 200 mg of hydro to cold turkey. I've been through withdrawals without it so I know exactly how much the suck! I used neurontin and was able to go on with life. I still had the chills and some anxiety, but you was bearable. It really helped me the most with sleep. The only side effect I had from it was a tinge of a headache and a little fuzzy headed.
620877 tn?1282764097 For those of you who take Gabapentin (Neurontin): Just curious what side effects you have experienced (and at what dosage), and how long they lasted? I just started this last weekend, 300mg once a day at bedtime. I am having a really hard time waking up in the morning and for the first half of the day I feel a little "loopy" or my head feels "swimmy"....if that makes any sense.....
Avatar f tn If you are on triple therapy for genotype 1 and undetectable then your doc is following AASLD protocol for anemia management Anemia developed among recipients of both PIs. Hemoglobin decreases below 10 g/dL (grade 2 toxicity) occurred in 49% of patients who received a BOC regimen compared to 29% of those who received the SOC regimen, whereas 9% had a hemoglobin decline of <8.5 g/dL (grade 3 toxicity).
