Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin and tmj

neurontin

Avatar m tn you need to see a dentist that specialises in tmj and get xrays done. also see your doctor and get blood tests done for inflammation markers etc. good luck.
Avatar f tn I thought maybe TMJ because of my stress, but the went to the TN site that Kathy gave me, and did the on-line diagnostic questions, and it came up with TN-type2. I called my dentist this am, and can't get in until the 30th of April. Since I already take Tramadol, neurontin, and baclophen, does it make any difference which one it is? I'm just falling apart a piece at a time!
Avatar n tn Regarding TMJ, many patients with TMJ problems present with facial pain, and by treating the TMJ the facial pain improves significantly, so it may be important for you to discuss with your dentist or oral physician, how will be the best treatment for your TMJ, and if this is causing your facial pain. Unfortunately as I said, without being able to obtain a detailed history and physical examination as well as neurologic examination, I cannot tell you what the cause of your symptoms is.
Avatar n tn I have already had surgery for TMJ disorder, and am still having extreme pain. The only way to describe it is an ice pick being rammed through my left ear. I was informed that any other surgery would make it even worse. I have gotten a second opinion, and have also been informed that my TMJ is fine! Then WHY am I still having such extreme pain? Nerve block injections, nerve medications like Neurontin, Lyrica, etc.. have not helped. Hydrocodone helps take just the edge off of the pain.
Avatar f tn I know opiates. I know the pleasure and pain of them. I got the neurontin from a Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. I have had sinus headaches and facial pain for many years. I ALWAYS have a sinus infection. At least thats what my regular doctor tells me. So I went to a specialist. Had some CAT scans. He has not read the films yet but said he does NOT feel its my sinuses since my nose is never runny or stuffy, its always clear and I am a definite nose breather..
Avatar f tn I have had zero withdrawals since taking it and I feel so normal and not drugged like on my tramadol. I am so confused. Maybe I'm just the lucky one? Also concerned a bit. I stop taking it next Thursday and am happy it's not long term as I don't want to trade one drug for another. Is this normal? Usually I'd be in bed 2 hours ago but I feel great. Cooked a huge dinner and have cleaned my big house and am now going for a walk.
Avatar f tn Thanks for all the answers. Im 103 days out. Just wondered about the shaking. I take 300mgs of Neurontin, Brane, and wouldn't be taking any if it wasn't for the screwed up mess that happened at the DENTAL Appointment I had last year. I just found out when I quit the Norco, just what people were talking about, when they talk about TMJ. Omg, it is debilitating. Its unreal, that someone can go for a dental or surgical appt. and come out worse than when you went in.
Avatar n tn So am I right to be seeing the TMJ (pain management) specialist and the deep muscle therapist or should I look into seeing someone else? The TMJ specialist has given me the injections hoping by treating the inflammation around the nerve that the nerve would have room to move/heal. The deep muscle therapist feels there is scar tissue around the nerve that needs to be broken down. He uses a combination of ultrasound and deep tissue massage (which is no picnic).
Avatar f tn Jaw locking Eye pain and twitching Facial pain and burning Pain in side of head Pain in mouth Shoulder pain Arm pain with weakness and twitching Occasional balance loss I have had MRIs of my Brain, Cervical and Thoracic Spine, and Right TMJ. Everything was clear except for 2 small disc protrusions to the right at C5 and C6, the opinion is that these protrusions are not large enough to be causing problems. I have had an arthroscopy on the Right TMJ and arthritis has been ruled.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with pain in my mouth, jaw, ear, and throat since Nov. 2011. So far I have seen my normal doctor, a neurologist, my dentist, and an ENT. My normal doctor couldn't say for certainty what was the issue is the neurologist says trigeminal neuralgia and the ENT says TMJ. The pain is horrible and is daily. Where my mouth hurts there isn't even a tooth there!
1398151 tn?1280526849 I have been experiencing pain in my left temple area and in my eyebrow area as well. It is a burning, tingling sensation accompanied by numbness in part of my cheek. My jaw pops every time I open and close it. That has been happening for as long as I can remember. The pain gets so intense my eye waters, stays red, and actually feels as though someone has punched me in the eye. My family has a history of TMJ, and didn't know if maybe this was the problem. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I just got back from my GP and he said he thinks it is TMJ and stress. It is so strange though. It feels like an ear infection in my right ear but its perfectly healthy! Has anyone else had this? I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one. Also the eye pain, not constant but annoying and intermittent. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Should I have another MRI/MRA done or the one on Oct 31st is enough? Thanks so much!!!!!!
Avatar m tn 2 yrs ago I had anchors place to intrude my upper jaw (right) so I could have implants placed lower right after 9 months the procedure was unsuccessful and they were removed. I've since then lost 3 teeth in that area and am now left with chronic right sided face pain literally the whole right side of my head. I had a MRI last month that was negative but the pain is progressing. It now includes my right ear as well. I've be treated with neurontin and tegretol with no relief.
469428 tn?1207201619 Hi I am new to the forum,I have read post's and I am so sorry for everyone's pain. I had a cervical dissection with a spinal fusion on c-3through c-6 19 month's ago and now I am back where I started in sooo!!! much pain. I have been on vicodin, neurontin, lyrica, flerexil,I cannot remember what else. Now I am on celebrex and darvocet. I have almost contemplated suicide but I am too sane for that, and I don't want to go to Hell so I guess I have to find some pain relief.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have TMJ and MS. My TMJ is pretty bad. My jaw pops out of alignment at least once a week. It is very noticable when it happens, as my teeth are not lined up correctly when my mouth is closed, and I can not chew because the teeth do not match up in the back to grind food. Normally this last only a few minutes as I try to pop my jaw back into place. This is usually occumpanied (? spelling) by a VERY loud cracking sound that other people can hear.
Avatar n tn As far as I understand it, no. The TMJ area and the nerves associated with it usually result in problems near the TMJ and the ear. It, of course, can also affect the teeth and the bite, etc. If you're concerned about your TMD and some vision problems, I suggest you go to a TMJ specialist to see if there may be something going on.
779797 tn?1263618235 A hole in a tooth does not cause TMJ but the pain and infection could exacerbate the TMJ symptoms. Fearing dentist is normal and we do see it every day but there are also a lot of dentists who do provide sedation dentistry. Visit www.top3dentist.com to find appropriate dentist.
Avatar m tn You know, this is coming from a 23 year old who has his own theory on the whole TMJ thing. It's all about posture and how strong your muscles are. If you work on stretching and bodyweight exercises (for your entire body, that will eventually translate to your neck/jaw), you can reverse the effects with due time. Just a few words of wisdom...
Avatar n tn i have had continuous pain there worse then ever. i am now on neurontin and baclofen and it helps extremely. please help me get some questions answered.
Avatar m tn My mom had shingles five years ago and was left with nerve damage and pain....The doctor prescribed amitriptyline about two weeks ago...She has had no relief from the pain and cannot stay awake, has dry mouth and her vision is blurry. Can she stop taking the medication cold turkey (since she has only been on it for two weeks) and how long does it usually take to get any pain relief from this medication.
Avatar f tn I have been getting an aura in both eyes (like a migraine aura with no headache that lasts about 15minutes to a half hour) since I was told to increase my neurontin, daily, but I was also put on Celebrex and Skelaxin at the same time. I've been off of Skelaxin since March 2010. I went off of Celebrex first as I read an article that was in a New Zealand journal of medicine that said it causes rare (9/300 people) visual disturbance.
Avatar m tn Been to every doctor and everything is fine. My Vitamin D is low and I am working on that. I have TMJ and that may be the cause. I went to a TMJ dentist and he gave me muscle relaxers. I took them for a month and my muscles calmed down. He asked if the dizzy went away and I told him no. He said well I guess it's not the TMJ that is causing it. Can that be right?
Avatar n tn I also developed high blood pressure when this started. I am currently on neurontin, which helps a little and I take verapamil for my blood pressure. I am wondering if anybody has experienced anything similar and if they were able to solve it.
645390 tn?1338555377 I am having SEVERE left ear pain from Trigeminal Neuralgia. It started when I woke up this morning and has been progressively getting worse during the day. A couple weeks ago, my neuro upped my Trileptal to 600 mg with baclofen. At the time is was my cheek pain bothering me, and it seemed to do the trick. Not helping me now. Any suggestions as to what to do for relief? I am sure I asked this in the past for the facial pain, but not the ear. Any home remedies out there?
1232362 tn?1333135406 I called, made an appt. The Dr. was my hero. It was TMJ (very serious case) and they made a bite plate for me to wear, and he adjusted my jaw so that little disc snapped back into place and that was 4 years ago and I haven't had a problem, migraine since! So, yes TMJ can cause migraines. The Neuro Docs just don't want to look at that aspect because it' more dental (jaw and teeth) then brain and they're only solution is meds! Hope you find relief.
2932946 tn?1344722012 I'm not sure if TMJ is common with Chiari or not, but I do have both. The best thing I have found to help with my TMJ is a mouth guard from my dentist that I use at night. I tried over the counter guards, but this is the only one that has worked for me. I also take aleve or another OTC pain killer before going to the dentist because holding my mouth open that wide makes my jaw hurt. Good luck!
1925822 tn?1333705617 I approach to be really better one day.
