Neurontin and tegretol

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin and tegretol

neurontin

Avatar n tn com, you can put in tegretol then neurontin then lyrica and look at the prescribing info for all three medicines to see if the side effects you are experiencing on tegretol are also listed as a side effect of either neurontin or lyrica. If it is not, then discussing a possible switch to neurontin or lyrica with your doctor might be worthwhile.
453029 tn?1205951419 m sitting in my dr just too me off tegretol and put me on neurontin as ive been havingthese more frequent now.
915369 tn?1355314810 Yes well I tried Neurontin which is the other name for it in combination with Lamictal (Neurontin is generally used as an adjunct medication regardless of what medication its used with) and I found that it made me too nervous and that can happen but each person responds differently to each medication.
Avatar n tn i am suffering from bilaterial tn for last 34 yrs i take tegretol and neurontin one of each three times a day during the attack of pain, but once the pain goes i stop taking them. u can try tegretol after consulting your doctor, it is the only medicine that arrests the pain of tn. and when combined with other anti convulsant drugs like, dilantin, or neurontin, it works even better.
378810 tn?1201987233 I lost 40 lbs 3 years ago and have kept it off until like 8 months ago when pain doc started trying neurontin and lyrica for chronic myofascial pain..which did not work...and kept putting on weight. Now back on lyrica for nerve pain in TN but not really helping. What other drugs work that don't make you gain weight?? Okay sorry, just a downer day..or week..any input would be great on meds that work for TN..God Bless you all.
1374874 tn?1278686480 But, I am very sensitive to medicine. Tegretol will help you GAIN weight! Neurontin is just as bad and is used on too many patients for too many reasons most lately. I would try the newer one, Trileptal if given a choice. But, it is also more expensive, Try to start out on the lowest dosage and step it up to find the right dosage.
Avatar n tn I found that Neurontin increased the number of migraines I had and the severity of them, and while I was on Neurontin I had migraines preceded by visual field disturbances--patterns of flickering lights all over the filed of vision of my right eye--that I had never had before the Neurontin and have not had since. My overall experience of Neurontin was not good--it screwed up my calcium/magnesium levels and threw my thyroid and adrenal systems way out of whack.
429700 tn?1308007823 I was diagnosed with having TN and placed on the generic form of Tegretol. It started as an ice pick pain above my left ear. Then it moved into the nostril and was so bad that with each episode my head would pop back like I was being shot. Now I have yet another pain in my face, but it's different. It's on the left again underneath my cheek bone. It makes me feel like I have a toothache in my cheek (burning). I'm also getting the sharp nose pain in the side of my nostril.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I currently on Lamictal, Neurontin, and Klonopin. However, there has been discussion of weaning off of the latter medications and adding a mood stabilizer to the mix. However, I am very sensitive to medication; Seroquel kicked me into a manic episode. Given this fact, what are some of the effective mood stabilizers for mania? What are some of your experiences with said stabilizers?
Avatar n tn Hi. I was diagnosed with ATN 14 years ago. The pain has been well-controlled with neurontin until 3 weeks ago. I had an exacerbation of pain, most likely brought on by dental work. The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now.
655091 tn?1224364431 casually diagnosed trigeminal neuralgia and has prescribed Tegretol, Neurontin, Lustral, Amitriptyline, all with minimal effect. I have never been sent for x-rays, scans or any other specific analysis. My question is: what if this condition is Raeders neuralgia? Could it be cervical rib syndrome? This condition seems to have fundamentally stemmed from the shoulder area. Could it simply be an injury to that area? Any response would be most welcome. Yours, Declan.
Avatar f tn I have been on neurontin, nortriptylene, tegretol, and trileptol all at the same time. Have also used capcaicin and lidoderm 5% patches. Am trying desperately to find a doctor in East Tennessee, where I live, that has heard of anesthesia dolorosa. Any suggestions???
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone give me any views on carbamazepine for pain please?
Avatar m tn It is like a needle made of glass penetrating the right side of my nose and going into my head. What is the best treatment for this and can it be cured completely. This discussion is related to Trigeminal neuralgia more help.
405614 tn?1329144114 Hi Kathy, It sounds like we are in this together. Thanks for your reply on my post. I can't offer any help other than to say I know how you feel. In answer to you question on my post I am taking Gabapentin 1800mg daily and tried EDEP at night (amitryptaline) but the Endep made me too zonked to function at work so I really didn't trial it long enough to see. I have had Tegretol in the past and that also left me feeling zonked...
689327 tn?1240229164 I just went to the doctor today and found out one of my 9 pins is loose and and I have to have more surgery this coming Monday, the 2nd do you think this will help the pain/nerve problem.
Avatar f tn s, all the anti manics including lamictal, old antipyschotics and the new antipsychotics, which thanks to them I am now prediabetic. I am now on Lexapro, xanax and tegretol. The tegretol is recent but I am having trouble with restless legs with it. I might mention that I have also had 21 sessions of ECT. Is there anything left for me?? I am feeling pretty hopeless at this point.

Avatar m tn wow its crazy to hear of someone else who got it young! i have had bilateral TN since i was 15 (now 21) and am getting MVD surgery in nov & again in dec. I have used tegretol baclofen and neurontin in the past and found nuerontin to be the best by far in regard to side effects.
Avatar f tn Yes, I get burning pain in my feet, legs hands, arms and now it has crept up into my lower back and pelvic region. It is terrible. aura3's advice sounds logical and helpful. I have been suffering with burning pain now for over 12 months, it really is the pits. It must be so difficult for you, gosh, I'm not sure myself what will relieve it. My standard pandeine/codeine don't do a darn thing so I asked the neuro and he has put me on "Tegretol" which is used for epilepsy.
Avatar f tn Baclofen and Zanaflex. there others but I do not know the name. There is Oxcodone for pain. It does not work as well for MS since it does not work on nerves or muscles. Most people need a combination of muscle and nerve pain meds.
486038 tn?1300063367 I was on Tegretol and Neurontin when my speech difficulties began and now that I am on a lower dose of Tegretol and off the Neurontin, my speech has definitely improved but unfortunately I am still having trouble when I am tired. I have the "stuttering" problem as well as difficulty with word retrieval. This can happen day or night depending on how well rested I am.
Avatar n tn This is my third bout with trigeminal neuralgia. I'm 47 years old with a history of six or seven concussions, several severe. I was wondering if anyone had heard of this as a possible cause for onset of symptoms? When I had it before, the doctors treated my pain with morphine, oxycontin and xanax before being placed on long term neurontin. Now I'm facing the same treatment, but DO NOT want to go back on neurontin. The constant hunger and weight gain was horrible.
