Neurontin vs tegretol

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin vs tegretol

neurontin

Avatar n tn com, you can put in tegretol then neurontin then lyrica and look at the prescribing info for all three medicines to see if the side effects you are experiencing on tegretol are also listed as a side effect of either neurontin or lyrica. If it is not, then discussing a possible switch to neurontin or lyrica with your doctor might be worthwhile.
453029 tn?1205951419 m sitting in my dr just too me off tegretol and put me on neurontin as ive been havingthese more frequent now.
915369 tn?1355314810 the one which starts with T is Topamax probably an AP but Tegretol is an AC . could be tegretol still because the canadians follow the British who prescribe it you are still young so no fear of interactivity of tegretol about gabapentin many say it's good . problem is that pdocs don't write it usually neurologists only.
1374874 tn?1278686480 But, I am very sensitive to medicine. Tegretol will help you GAIN weight! Neurontin is just as bad and is used on too many patients for too many reasons most lately. I would try the newer one, Trileptal if given a choice. But, it is also more expensive, Try to start out on the lowest dosage and step it up to find the right dosage.
Avatar n tn I found that Neurontin increased the number of migraines I had and the severity of them, and while I was on Neurontin I had migraines preceded by visual field disturbances--patterns of flickering lights all over the filed of vision of my right eye--that I had never had before the Neurontin and have not had since. My overall experience of Neurontin was not good--it screwed up my calcium/magnesium levels and threw my thyroid and adrenal systems way out of whack.
429700 tn?1308007823 m happy to hear that you have some good news on your blood work tests so that you can continue the Tegretol. How long have you had the TN? Does the Tegretol work for you better than you think the Neurontin? Your symptoms sound similar to mine. I had trouble with ON (diagnosed with it just after the MS diagnosis). I also have spasticity. I guess these symptoms are pretty common for people with MS, though . . .
Avatar f tn ve read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP. But Tegretol usually has side effects. http://www.bipolarworld.org/bipolarworld/Medications/Mood%20Stabilizers/stabmeds_main.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I currently on Lamictal, Neurontin, and Klonopin. However, there has been discussion of weaning off of the latter medications and adding a mood stabilizer to the mix. However, I am very sensitive to medication; Seroquel kicked me into a manic episode. Given this fact, what are some of the effective mood stabilizers for mania? What are some of your experiences with said stabilizers?
Avatar n tn The pain has been well-controlled with neurontin until 3 weeks ago. I had an exacerbation of pain, most likely brought on by dental work. The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now. Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains?
655091 tn?1224364431 casually diagnosed trigeminal neuralgia and has prescribed Tegretol, Neurontin, Lustral, Amitriptyline, all with minimal effect. I have never been sent for x-rays, scans or any other specific analysis. My question is: what if this condition is Raeders neuralgia? Could it be cervical rib syndrome? This condition seems to have fundamentally stemmed from the shoulder area. Could it simply be an injury to that area? Any response would be most welcome. Yours, Declan.
Avatar m tn The pain has returned just last week, after 2 years remission. I started on tegretol 200mg 3 times a day and neurontin 300mg twice a day. this is controling the pain, but i am having terrible headache, it is so severe that i cannot bear it. of course it is better than neuralgic pain. can u please tell me whether this headaches are due higher dose of medication? I also feel nauseatic and drowsy. or, am i having tumor or something like that.
378810 tn?1201987233 It was wonderful and I do not regret it), but have lost weight since I started on the Tegretol. The tegretol is working, but I think I need a higher dose and am titrating up. I still have the lightening jabs with chewing, but less often and a little less intense. The tegretol is lessening, by a lot!!! the deep, severe ache that I would get (at a pain level of a 6 to 8) for several hours after a bad jab.
Avatar n tn i am suffering from bilaterial tn for last 34 yrs i take tegretol and neurontin one of each three times a day during the attack of pain, but once the pain goes i stop taking them. u can try tegretol after consulting your doctor, it is the only medicine that arrests the pain of tn. and when combined with other anti convulsant drugs like, dilantin, or neurontin, it works even better.
Avatar f tn I have been on neurontin, nortriptylene, tegretol, and trileptol all at the same time. Have also used capcaicin and lidoderm 5% patches. Am trying desperately to find a doctor in East Tennessee, where I live, that has heard of anesthesia dolorosa. Any suggestions???
Avatar f tn Carbamazepine (Tegretol) was first used to treat trigeminal neuralgia in the 1990s. Because of its success in treating that painful condition (which is very difficult to treat), it was then used to treat all kinds of neuropathic pain. While it may be useful, there are more modern medications that may help if you have a neuropathic pain problem -- for instance, Neurontin (gabapentin) and Lyrica (pregabalin).
Avatar m tn Does Trigeminal Neuralgia worsen with age. I've tried Tegretol but the pain has some back agaiin after about a year and is very, very intense. It is like a needle made of glass penetrating the right side of my nose and going into my head. What is the best treatment for this and can it be cured completely. This discussion is related to Trigeminal neuralgia more help.
689327 tn?1240229164 The first thing is to make absolutely certain that the nerve has been decompressed-- if this was an open procedure I guess I should assume the nerve was visualized and there is nothing pinching or pushing against the nerve. Beyond that the only thing I know of would be the 'usual anticonvulsants'-- neurontin in high doses, lyrica, tegretol... sometimes a small amount of an opiate makes a big difference.
Avatar f tn s, all the anti manics including lamictal, old antipyschotics and the new antipsychotics, which thanks to them I am now prediabetic. I am now on Lexapro, xanax and tegretol. The tegretol is recent but I am having trouble with restless legs with it. I might mention that I have also had 21 sessions of ECT. Is there anything left for me?? I am feeling pretty hopeless at this point.
537197 tn?1214139835 I have had PN for 6yrs and it just keeps going from bad to worse,I am on Neurontin,Tegretol and Endep. My pain is around 9-10 24/7, Is anybody out there that take these kind of meds, and it helps with their pain. Please I'm getting desperate.....Timus.
Avatar m tn wow its crazy to hear of someone else who got it young! i have had bilateral TN since i was 15 (now 21) and am getting MVD surgery in nov & again in dec. I have used tegretol baclofen and neurontin in the past and found nuerontin to be the best by far in regard to side effects.
620877 tn?1282764097 For those of you who take Gabapentin (Neurontin): Just curious what side effects you have experienced (and at what dosage), and how long they lasted? I just started this last weekend, 300mg once a day at bedtime. I am having a really hard time waking up in the morning and for the first half of the day I feel a little "loopy" or my head feels "swimmy"....if that makes any sense.....
Avatar f tn What kind of pain there is nerve pain: Neurontin or Gabenpentin, Tegretol, Tinazidine, Lyrica. Muscle spasms: Baclofen and Zanaflex. there others but I do not know the name. There is Oxcodone for pain. It does not work as well for MS since it does not work on nerves or muscles. Most people need a combination of muscle and nerve pain meds.
1291268 tn?1274810922 Neurontin works for me with 2 tramodols with it started taking 3oo mlg of neurontin now 1200mlg with 2 tramodols work for me
