244899 tn?1313624639 My hematologist has explained that no one knows the reason that neupogen causes bone pain in some people. It has been said that neupogen stimulates the bone marrow and that can cause the marrow to push against the inside of the long bones and cause some pain. But your guess is as good as anyones as to why it happens. The good news is that most people get used to the neupogen and it stops hurting.
Avatar f tn I just read that a lot of people try NOT to take Neupogen unless it is a necessity due to sx. I am on Neupogen and I take it 3 times a week and have been taking it for 8 mos. now. Does anyone know exactly why people/anyone would want to NOT take Neupogen? Your answers may provide some insight for me and my sx's.
Avatar m tn The recommended starting dose of Neupogen is 5 mcg/kg/day‚ administered as a single daily injection by SC bolus injection, by short IV infusion (15 to 30 minutes)‚ or by continuous SC or continuous IV infusion. A CBC and platelet count should be obtained before instituting Neupogen therapy‚ and monitored twice weekly during therapy. Doses may be increased in increments of 5 mcg/kg for each chemotherapy cycle‚ according to the duration and severity of the ANC nadir.
Avatar m tn 00 and while i was in hospital they were giving me neupogen shots as well as iv antibiotics as i started to have a fever that took 4 days to get rid of so on 6th day they released me. So will this make me prone to some long lasting side effects after tx ? Thanks to all, Robert ps to nygirl7 im still dont know if im und yet my doctor is trying to get my results asap but that could be days weeks or even a month....
Avatar m tn Does everyone check if there is blood in the syringe before push down the plunger, or after? I am on my week 9 on tx and still not really comfortable doing the shots. I do injections in my stomach. I am pretty skinny so never sure if it goes under the skin or get into the muscle. Most instructions tell us to direct the needle straight but I use certain angle. Pegasus needle is about an inch long and how do you know how thick the subcutaneous fat layer of a thin person?
Avatar f tn Bone pain was reported more frequently in patients treated with higher doses (20 to 100 mcg/kg/day) administered IV‚ and less frequently in patients treated with lower SC doses of Neupogen® (3 to 10 mcg/kg/day).
Avatar n tn Can Vit. C IV drips (to help increase the body's immunity) and/or bio-identical hormone supplementation (to help improve moods) be helpful while on a course of chemotherapy (incivek (teleprevir) or victrellis(vocepier), interferon, riboferon, and neupogen, procrit ) for a Stage 3 (advanced stage) Hep C patient? Has any one tried these therapies?
1658980 tn?1330711550 My doctor feels that although my ANC went from 670 to 840 between Monday and Friday, that we need to be prepared for Neupogen in the event that it drops again. The insurance company has denied coverage for this because HCV treatment is not on their inclusion list for medical conditions approved for neupogen usage. WTF? I know that a lot of members have had issues with their insurance companies but was wondering if anyone ran across this situation and if so, how they dealt with it.
1658980 tn?1330711550 Does your trial give your doctor leeway to determine what comes first, the neupogen or the dosage reduction? If yes, you can ask your doctor to go with the neupogen first, stating you don't want a dosage reduction. Adherence to dosages in the first 12 weeks are particularly important. If the trial does not allow your doctor that leeway and it strictly requires dosage reduction at 750 ANC and neupogen at 500 ANC, you'll have to follow trial mandates.
Avatar m tn I'm on week 17. My week 12 PCR came back DET, not quantifiable. Doc said push on for the year. ANC came back today at .9 and they reduced RIBA to 400 twice a day. I asked about Neupogen and was told to do the reduced dose and then another CBC on Monday. What do you guys think?
1669790 tn?1333662595 His approach was not as conservative as mine, since I was hoping to monitor the levels, rather than jump into the neupogen shots. I thought best to not push things too much since he did a good job of scaring me about potential infections and result of high fever, etc. So looks like I begin with 2 shots per week to start, monitor the levels as I go and follow up with an appt in 2 weeks. He did indicate that most have no sides, but some have “achy bones” from the neupogen.
691935 tn?1421027090 I went all the way to zero. It was a very scary time. I would push for neupogen or neulasta instead of reducing. Good luck.
Avatar f tn It was agony. I thought the first time was due to Neulasta and asked to Neupogen instead. After 18 Neupogen shots in 21 days I had hives again. Both times they were treated with steroids which somewhat diminished the symptoms but did not make them go away. It is so hard to say what really causes hives because of the great number of drugs that are administered during chemo. Curiously, I did have hives one more time.
Avatar f tn Yes, in a trial and they allow rescue drugs. They don't advertise it, they don't offer it, but it's available and I had to ask for them. The trial parameters still require dosage reductions below certain white and red counts. When they reduced my riba for one week, my doc put me on procrit - eprex in Canada - as a proactive measure to avoid the dosage reduction the trial requires when my hgb drops below 10.0. IF my lymphocytes are at or below .
Avatar f tn I been feeling uncomfortable down south like I need to push. Its like a bubble and I been having really thick white oder less discharge as well as gushed of clear semen smelling discharge. .
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor about epoetin or aransep both are injections that you give yourself to increase your red blood cell count... neupogen is for white blood cell count increase. I took the neupogen for 3 days after each chemo and never had low white blood cell count last year.. I could not tolerate epoetin due to being a type 1 diabetic... sometimes doctors don't mention it as insurance companies balk at paying as epoetin and neupogen are very expensive...
5249831 tn?1407713726 Neupogen is used to stimulate the production of granulocytes (a type of white blood cell) in patients undergoing therapy that will cause low white blood cell counts. Neupogen is used to prevent infection and neutropenic (low white blood cells) fevers caused by chemotherapy. Neupogen is a support medication. http://chemocare.com/chemotherapy/drug-info/Neupogen.
493068 tn?1224765315 Do any of you have information about any long term side effects if you had Neupogen for 40 weeks?
Avatar f tn The Hematologist said he was going to start him on Neupogen is anyone else taking this and is it working for them. He also said that he may need a transfusion , which is freaking my husband out because that is how we suspect he contracted the Hep c orignally (back in the 80s). I told him that they screen the blood much differently now then they did back then , but he is still freaking out. Anyone who is taling Neupogen please let me know if it is helping.
Avatar n tn low blood count started neupogen injections to build up white blood cell count so I can have chemotherapy, can I drink beer with this?
Avatar f tn Just got the call this morning that my doctor wants to put me on Neupogen for 4 weeks because my white blood cells are so low. I'm so disappointed, I really wanted to be done shooting into myself!! Anyone else out there on this drug? I don't know a thing about it.
Avatar f tn So the doc finally agreed to a neupogen shot, after many delayed shots of pegasys. I was supposed to do a shot tuesday, however got bloodwork done today and anc is 620, Doc says to take neupogen tonight (I did, the neupogen is 300mcg, im ~130lbs) and get more bloodwork done on thursday, and then he'll call friday with whether or not to take the shot or not. So here I am, waiting, again. Arggg!
Avatar f tn I am supposed to receive Neupogen tomorrow. Did my peg shot this morning. I'm sure I will get instructions with the med but it's good to get some input from those who are currently treating with it. Are we supposed to wait 24 hrs after the peg shot to inject Neup? Should I inject more slowly than I do with Peg? Docs office told me to reduce peg today to 135 mcg but I didn't (me not listen - what a revelation) because I knew I was getting the Neup tomorrow.
1501377 tn?1291508678 Have been trying to cost what a ceiling amount might be for a 12 week period to see if I can organise sufficient funds. Neupogen in prepared syringes are sold in packs of 10 - $1504 for 3000mcg/.5ml shots and $2407 for 480mcg/.5ml shots. I realise that amount required is case dependant but wouldnt mind any info which might assist me to at least get some idea of the range which may generally apply.
144210 tn?1273088782 I insisted to re-consider --- after that I was given Neupogen daily (like you) with daily monitoring of CBCs count. The good news is that Neupogen is a FAST acting drug -- I almost sure that after 3 daily shotS you will have normal (if not high) levels of WBCs and ANC. I also hope that you are seeing a Hematologist for all blood issues...
