Common Questions and Answers about Neupogen injections

neupogen

Avatar m tn 3 and Nuet 12. The doctors office called me this morning and gave me neupogen injections. I did the 2 weeks test without the pcr and the WBC was 2 and Neut was 22. The NP gave me 4 neupogen injections of which I used 2 in 2 weeks but instead of the WBC going up it tanked. Now my NP wants me to inject 4 injections in a week. Is it normal to do 4 injections in a week? My PCR result will come out next week and I will post it here. I am doing SOC for genotype 4 and will add vic next week.
Avatar m tn I had awful bone pain when I was on Neupogen. I've always contended for me, the side effects from Neupogen were as bad if not worse than those from antiviral therapy. It stimulates the colonies of white stem cells within the bone marrow causing the level of neutrophils in the blood to rise. It is common to have aching bones and joints for 2-3 days duration starting 1-2 days after the start of the injections.
Avatar n tn low blood count started neupogen injections to build up white blood cell count so I can have chemotherapy, can I drink beer with this?
Avatar f tn s a balancing act. Lots of blood tests to monitor ANC levels. Some weeks 2 injections, other weeks no injections. The longest I went without Neupogen was 2 wks because my ANC would drop below 400 and would not rebound.
1151539 tn?1262151603 Neupogen is some nast stuff. It should only take a couple more injections after the inf is stopped before you can stop the neup. Hang in there.
1382010 tn?1279643604 Does anyone have info on the neupogen shot? Have you had to have the injections due to low neutrophils from HepC treatement? Do yiu usually have to continue the shots for the remainder of tx or do they go back up and stay there???
1051842 tn?1253997592 I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hep C in April 2007 and since then I have had a liver transplant and I'm on my 6th month of interferon treatment. I have had little or no side effects from the interferon, but recently started injecting procrit. That first injection of procrit made me feel worse than the interferon ever has. Tomorrow I'm supposed to start Neupogen injections. I'm scared of that! What kind of side effects can I expect from that? Will I have to take these new drugs long?
Avatar f tn start with neupogen as sometimes just this alone makes people feel better. Any input from all you experienced people is always greatly appreciated!
Avatar m tn 900 isn't bad, mine went 700 in my 4th week and i'm in my 45th already!
457651 tn?1208363102 On thursday it was my second chemo session but it couldnt be done because my white blood cell coutn was down to -9. They injected what i recall to be Neupogen. Since then, i am worthless. Ive had constant fatigue the entire thursday and friday. Now it is saturday at 4:33am and my back hurts very much. Ive tried tylenol, ibuprofen and it seems to do little for me. How long will this last? What other things cna i do to raise my white cells? Should i be drinking a lot of water?
1025981 tn?1261093199 I have been sent home with the instructions to take two neupogen shots a week, 300 mcg per shot. Take one the same day as shot on Monday and then a second neupogen shot on Thursday. Does anyone have any input on this? What about folks saying NOT to take it the same day as your shot?
Avatar f tn I was on Proctrit towards the end of tx and I took 3 weekly injections of Neupogen for an entire yr. All of the weekly injections were getting to me towards the end and were difficult to take. I never messed around with my Friday Interferon shot but I started to take the Neupogen whenever I could. I am glad that it is over and right now I am too happy to think anything but positive thoughts about my PCR lab tomorrow! Thanks again to everyone on this forum for always being there.
Avatar m tn The neupogen does not. I had no visable side effects from the neupogen although after I completed treatment and was still doing the Neup for a few weeks to bring up the whites, I noticed the side effects (bone aches). Masked by the INF and RIBA and the Procrit, who knew what was causing what? One thing I was told about Neupogen by my hemotologist was to wait 24 hours after the INF or do it at least 24 hours before. NOT AT THE SAME TIME because the INF and NEUP counter act one another.
Avatar m tn The side effects are about the same as neupogen but happen much less frequently. You can think of it as a pegylated neupogen.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. Hubby's WBC count is low, so Hepatologist wants to put him on Neupogen. Have any of you used it? Any info you can share?
1815939 tn?1377991799 When are you supposed to take Procrit injections in relation to taking the Interferon injections? How many days apart should they be?
Avatar m tn Do I take it the same in the stomach or thigh the I take neupogen and interferon? I I took my INF yesterday, is it okay to take the procrit today? How long does it take to work, I've heard 2 weeks. My hgb was 7.7 on friday when they took blood. Thanks for advice!
Avatar f tn After Neup injections I get fever and bone aches. Wish it was side-less for me.
Avatar m tn In her opinion I should hold off all Neupogen/Neulasta injections until my next MD appointment…I did offer to give my own Neupogen. She is filing a continuance of service with Medicare to place my port. I hope they let her after the awful experience I had with my give me your co-pay plus more money; this chemo costs me too much and Medicare doesn't pay me enough doc.
Avatar m tn Without of the benefit of neupogen injections this can be a real problem.. Every chemo I had 3 injections to give myself and my white cell count stayed around 4.0 all through my chemo..You might want to suggest her having the injections as to keep her count up. Sorry your Mom is hving this problems... and being tired won't usually go away for a while.. Good luck...
1327032 tn?1288840755 If your white blood cells and anc get too low they either lower you interferon or use neupogen (grow stimulating factor) injections to raise the count. Hopefully they won't go low enough that they have to do either. neupogen is definitely preferred over dose reduction in my opinion but of course this would depend on your doctor's management of the situation.
Avatar m tn s had diabetes for as long as i can remember he was also diagnosed with Hep C for which he recieved very severe treatment consisting of injections and pills hes lost soooo much weight has no energy in his body.. He just got an ALT test done in which it came out 112!!! that is really high on top of all he is an alcoholic! he doesnt even have the energy to walk.
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor about epoetin or aransep both are injections that you give yourself to increase your red blood cell count... neupogen is for white blood cell count increase. I took the neupogen for 3 days after each chemo and never had low white blood cell count last year.. I could not tolerate epoetin due to being a type 1 diabetic... sometimes doctors don't mention it as insurance companies balk at paying as epoetin and neupogen are very expensive...
Avatar f tn The rescue drug for low ANC is neupogen. I began 2x per week injections at week 8 after my level went down to 300 (or 0.3). Depending of your current level once a week might be sufficient, but certainly the doc will guide you. I was told some experience an achy bone reaction, but I have had no reaction. The good thing is the ANC will rebound quickly for most people. Cost will depend on your insurance coverage and there might some assistance if needed.
