Common Questions and Answers about Neupogen for hiv

neupogen

Avatar f tn Because of the various things going on with my CBC's and my hyperthyroid situation, etc. the doctor ran a CD4 test this week and it came back with a CD4 count of 200 which is pretty low from what I understand. Low enough that if I had been 199, they would have pulled my interferon injection today totally. I did a quick search at work this afternoon after I got my results and I haven't had ALOT of time to look into this. It's got me just a wee bit offside but not too much just yet.
Avatar f tn My Anc was at 280 last week. They reduced my pegintron and I am taking one injection of neupogen a week for now. I don't blame you for not skipping. I am not too happy about the dose reduction either. I know it's different with everybody, but how much did the neupogen improve your anc? The trial requires mine to be at least 750 to not reduce the peg.
4113881 tn?1415850276 Since posting this yesterday and recieving great responses, I faxed him 2 studies along with the request to use Neupogen. He called me and after talking for a minute, said Neupogen will be an option if my lab values continue to lower. He did give me some resistance which makes me wonder if I should trust him but the end result was he was receptive to the suggestion based on the information I presented to him. I am to have labs on Jan 4th to check the levels again.
Avatar m tn I am on my second shot of 24 pegintron/ribavirin.My white blood cells went from 2900 to 1200 in one week. The doctor said if it goes below 1000 then he will reduce dose on my 3rd shot. Not a very good start. I have heard about Neupogen, which is supposed to increase white blood cells. Is this expensive??? How much will I need if my white blood cells drop more? I am in Thailand and and paying for all this myself. I could not wait for Obama's big insurance plan.
1501377 tn?1291508678 Have been trying to cost what a ceiling amount might be for a 12 week period to see if I can organise sufficient funds. Neupogen in prepared syringes are sold in packs of 10 - $1504 for 3000mcg/.5ml shots and $2407 for 480mcg/.5ml shots. I realise that amount required is case dependant but wouldnt mind any info which might assist me to at least get some idea of the range which may generally apply.
Avatar f tn The Hematologist said he was going to start him on Neupogen is anyone else taking this and is it working for them. He also said that he may need a transfusion , which is freaking my husband out because that is how we suspect he contracted the Hep c orignally (back in the 80s). I told him that they screen the blood much differently now then they did back then , but he is still freaking out. Anyone who is taling Neupogen please let me know if it is helping.
Avatar f tn I just read that a lot of people try NOT to take Neupogen unless it is a necessity due to sx. I am on Neupogen and I take it 3 times a week and have been taking it for 8 mos. now. Does anyone know exactly why people/anyone would want to NOT take Neupogen? Your answers may provide some insight for me and my sx's.
Avatar f tn So the doc finally agreed to a neupogen shot, after many delayed shots of pegasys. I was supposed to do a shot tuesday, however got bloodwork done today and anc is 620, Doc says to take neupogen tonight (I did, the neupogen is 300mcg, im ~130lbs) and get more bloodwork done on thursday, and then he'll call friday with whether or not to take the shot or not. So here I am, waiting, again. Arggg!

Avatar n tn If you are on high levels of Nupegon (like for stem cell collections for stem cell transplant) you may want to limit your drinking.
248382 tn?1274938634 5 Because i was not undetected until week 16, I will be on treatment for 72 weeks. I am now at week 42. Any feedback will be much appreciated.
Avatar f tn Just got the call this morning that my doctor wants to put me on Neupogen for 4 weeks because my white blood cells are so low. I'm so disappointed, I really wanted to be done shooting into myself!! Anyone else out there on this drug? I don't know a thing about it.
Avatar f tn ( i have had 8 injections) I saw Dr 3/6 and was told to stop all treatment until approval for Neupogen. I was due to take Pegaysis SQ on 3/6 and to Dc ribovarin also. I offered to get RX and fill it out of pocket or reduce dose and dr refused. I am upset and not sure how to proceed. Dr says interruption in TX should not affect Sustained effect. Tx will just be extended at the end. I just wanted to vent and get any pointers. Thank you for listening.
Avatar f tn t a good one, is to lower the dose of interferon. I would avoid that at all costs. I was on neupogen for 5 months. At first I had a bit of leg pain that responded to tylenol. That stopped after the first week and I really didn't know I was taking it. It is very expensive.
Avatar n tn http://pi.amgen.com/united_states/neupogen/neupogen_ppi_pt_english.pdf Among other things: "Serious Allergic Reactions. NEUPOGEN can cause serious allergic reactions. These reactions can cause a rash over the whole body, shortness of breath, wheezing, dizziness, swelling around the mouth or eyes, fast pulse, and sweating. If you or your child starts to have any of these symptoms, stop using NEUPOGEN and call your doctor or seek emergency care right away.
Avatar m tn it has been used effectively for several years for this purpose. However, with the inclusion of protease/polymerase inhibitor drugs the rules have changed somewhat; dose reduction maybe be preferable to other forms of intervention now. Be sure to discuss available options with your doctor, and see what course of intervention current studies support.
443922 tn?1374157016 m not certain if Neupogen is causing it or if TX or if it is just a natural process for your personal situation. But I do think you need to let your doctor know about ANY sudden changes in pain or swelling --- and even numbness. Much luck to you donnieraye.
163305 tn?1333668571 always did it in the day but hindsight i would probably do it right before bed cause for me the bone pain was very bad for me.. i had to take vicodin each time .. but it only lasted a day.. and the nup worked very quickly ...if you need it get it and yeah ive heard wait 48 hours too... i do that with my interferon and procrit now ....good luck ..sorry your nurse is being stupid ... but i admire you for getting along with her... it does help relieve stress at dr visits...
Avatar n tn I was doing 2 neupogen shots per week starting at week 8 of a 48 week (SOC) tx. My ANC was consistantly 0.2-0.3 on a Monday and about 0.5-0.7 on Thursday each week - Inf on Friday night. I finally reduced it to one shot/week the final 8 weeks of tx and continued for about 3 weeks after tx until the ANC raised above 1.0. While beginning the neupogen at week 8, I didn't notice much of the bone pain or achy feeling - no nausea or headaches.
Avatar n tn How much neupogen are you guys taking per shot.
Avatar m tn ANC can also bounce around a lot. For that reason, some of us have had our ANC drop as low as 300-500 without Neupogen intervention or dose reductions.. On the other hand, I've read here of some taking Neupogen and/or dose reductions with ANC around 1000. The other thing is that Neupogen is fairly fast acting and Procrit (epo)_ can take 2-6 weeks to fully kick in.
