Avatar f tn Just got the call this morning that my doctor wants to put me on Neupogen for 4 weeks because my white blood cells are so low. I'm so disappointed, I really wanted to be done shooting into myself!! Anyone else out there on this drug? I don't know a thing about it.
1467213 tn?1304214305 I asked if I could use the rescue drug(s) instead of reducing but was told I had to reduce and could add Neupogen (rescue drug) beginning tomorrow. I picked up the neupogen tonight and didn't realize I'd have to inject it. Should I inject in the fatty part of my stomach or does it matter where I inject. I won't be able to talk to anyone at the clinic until Monday and need to inject tomorrow. Going for repeat labs Tuesday and will be able to talk with the Dr at that time.
Avatar f tn I seen where different people have talked about the rescue drug while on treatment I guess I must be dumb or something I have no clue to what it is, Could someone please tell me
457651 tn?1208363102 On thursday it was my second chemo session but it couldnt be done because my white blood cell coutn was down to -9. They injected what i recall to be Neupogen. Since then, i am worthless. Ive had constant fatigue the entire thursday and friday. Now it is saturday at 4:33am and my back hurts very much. Ive tried tylenol, ibuprofen and it seems to do little for me. How long will this last? What other things cna i do to raise my white cells? Should i be drinking a lot of water?
Avatar n tn Talk to your doctor - Neupogen is one rescue drug --- but talk to your doc about the rescue drugs available and the possible side effects of those drugs. Much luck.
Avatar f tn Neupogen is a very often used rescue drug to help raise whit blood cells. many doctors would do this when the ANC gets to 500 and some would let it fall to 300 or so. often tho ,,it will drop and then stabilize or even rise some. Good idea to get the Neupogen at the ready just in case that doesn"t happen and it continues to drop.
Avatar f tn I am not on chemotherapy but I have to take Neupogen 2x/week at 480mcg a shot. The bone pain I have is horrible, the weirdest pain I have ever had before. My bone marrow gets so swollen that I can actually feel my heart beat in my femur, pelvis and ribs. That happens if I get up too fast, or bend over. On top of that I have the "bone aches and sharp zings" of pain for a day and a half after a shot. The first night I woke up shaking, because of the pain my body was experiencing.
Avatar m tn A rescue drug like " Neupogen " Others will chime in with a additional ideas, like dietary changes, etc. In the end though only Neupogen worked for me. Are you being treated for you Hep C? What type? All the best.
Avatar f tn Personally, unecessarily taking a drug like Neupogen on tx is like adding insult to injury. If your NP is resistant, talk to your doctor. If your doctor is resistant, get an outside consult from a liver specialist (hepatologist). It's your body and you owe yourself to fight for it. Neupogen is a very strong drug and should only be used when necessary.
Avatar f tn The Hematologist said he was going to start him on Neupogen is anyone else taking this and is it working for them. He also said that he may need a transfusion , which is freaking my husband out because that is how we suspect he contracted the Hep c orignally (back in the 80s). I told him that they screen the blood much differently now then they did back then , but he is still freaking out. Anyone who is taling Neupogen please let me know if it is helping.
1658980 tn?1330711550 d rather take the rescue drug. Anything to stay at full dose on the main tx drugs. If you have bad sx to Neupogen, consult your doc and quit taking it. Reaction to Neupogen, like Interferon and Riba, varies. Never had sides with Neup.
1051842 tn?1253997592 I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hep C in April 2007 and since then I have had a liver transplant and I'm on my 6th month of interferon treatment. I have had little or no side effects from the interferon, but recently started injecting procrit. That first injection of procrit made me feel worse than the interferon ever has. Tomorrow I'm supposed to start Neupogen injections. I'm scared of that! What kind of side effects can I expect from that? Will I have to take these new drugs long?
Avatar f tn Jonney, the drug Neupogen is available to combat low white cell count; do you know why this wasn’t considered? It works rapidly, and doesn’t compromise your treatment by keeping you on full dose interferon. The white cell count is actually determined by ‘Absolute Neutrofil Count (ANC); do you know what your current level is?
Avatar f tn I just read that a lot of people try NOT to take Neupogen unless it is a necessity due to sx. I am on Neupogen and I take it 3 times a week and have been taking it for 8 mos. now. Does anyone know exactly why people/anyone would want to NOT take Neupogen? Your answers may provide some insight for me and my sx's.
Avatar n tn one is to reduce the interferon dose to allow ANC to rebound; the other is to introduce ‘Neupogen’, an injectable drug that promotes white cell production. The later is preferable; it allows us to remain on full dose interferon to give us our best shot at success with HCV. Ask your doctor if he feels Neupogen is appropriate for you; it’s also known generically as ‘filgrastim’; a GCSF drug.
Avatar f tn s another rescue drug for that) but if your hgb is 9.1 its time for procrit, according to my doctor. Once you go below 10 you will be exhausted. Procrit helps a lot but it takes some time to work. In your place I would ask for procrit right away. Don't wait 2 weeks, ask your doctor now. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Please don't even consider taking a rescue drug like Neupogen without a Drs supervision - on or off tx. These are very potent meds and you really need to follow a drs directives on these. Follow up with your dr. on the low WBC and neuts. Like Hector said, if these results are long standing, there must be and underlying cause.
Avatar m tn Does a drug such as Neupogen (G-CSF) increases the possibility of rejection due to increased WBC? Or is rejection caused by another part of the immune system rather than WBC and ANC?
Avatar m tn ANC bounces around but if your blood tests are consistently showing a downward trend in your ANC, your doctor may recommend Neupogen which is a rescue drug given once ANC drops and stays below 500. Different doctors have varying thresholds as to when they think Neupogen is necessary. Very common for whites to tank on treatment.
764075 tn?1234495599 I have been doing "some" reading on Neupogen and have read that although it is not FDA approved for the treatment of,HCV, no generics being manufactured and is quite expensive. Are there assistance programs out there to assist with cost of Neupogen if my Dx prescribes. I am on a basic health program and co-pay 50% for all meds.
Avatar f tn have been receiving aranesp and neupogen for the last 8 weeks to help with my anemia while going through treatment. My wbc, rbc, hemoglobin and ANC held steady for the first few weeks, then started increasing and now as of last week took a decline. My wbc's went from 3.4 to 2.3, rbc's went from 2.9 to 2.7, hemo went from 10 to 9.33 and ANC went from 1770 to 930 all in one week. Is that normal and why would that happen when they were on the incline?
Avatar m tn You can discuss ‘Neupogen (filgrastim) with the doc; this is a GCSF drug that stimulates bone marrow production of white cells. It is generally initiated when absolute neutrofils reach .500 or that vicinity; some docs allow closer to .350, depending on occupation and other matters.
Avatar m tn Next time I try treatment I'm going to suggest to my doctor to prescribe neupogen and procrit before I start to get the counts up. Mine have always dropped into the low range. I found especially the neupogen made me feel rough after I was already well into treatment and didn't do a whole lot. Why don't doctors prescribe it before treatment? Would there be a downside to that?
Avatar n tn Anyone get any help with bone pain and seems like a migraine after neupogen ? I am on my second shot and it's 4:30 am and I have been up all nite with a horriable headache and severe nausea. Will call docs today and ask for something.
Avatar f tn Yes, in a trial and they allow rescue drugs. They don't advertise it, they don't offer it, but it's available and I had to ask for them. The trial parameters still require dosage reductions below certain white and red counts. When they reduced my riba for one week, my doc put me on procrit - eprex in Canada - as a proactive measure to avoid the dosage reduction the trial requires when my hgb drops below 10.0. IF my lymphocytes are at or below .
