Common Questions and Answers about Neupogen chemotherapy

neupogen

Avatar m tn Dear doctor, My mother is receiving chemotherapy for colon cancer, her doctor prescribed neupogen after each cycle because she had low WBC counts. She gets 3 shots in the 3 days after treatment and her counts reach about 12.000 .but after two weeks when its time for the next cycle the counts fall again and they say that they have to delay it for another week. 1) what would be the solution for this problem ? could another 2 shots of neupogen in the 2nd week help?
Avatar f tn Therefore Neupogen is not a substitute for Paclitaxel. Neupogen may be given with chemotherapy to prevent the depletion of WBCs. In your case, chemotherapy is an essential part of treatment since it has been shown to decrease recurrence rates. All the best!
Avatar n tn low blood count started neupogen injections to build up white blood cell count so I can have chemotherapy, can I drink beer with this?
Avatar m tn The safety and efficacy of NEUPOGEN® given simultaneously with cytotoxic chemotherapy have not been established. Because of the potential sensitivity of rapidly dividing myeloid cells to cytotoxic chemotherapy‚ do not use NEUPOGEN® in the period 24 hours before through 24 hours after the administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy. http://pi.amgen.com/united_states/neupogen/neupogen_pi_hcp_english.pdf (see bottom of pg 13.
Avatar f tn I am not on chemotherapy but I have to take Neupogen 2x/week at 480mcg a shot. The bone pain I have is horrible, the weirdest pain I have ever had before. My bone marrow gets so swollen that I can actually feel my heart beat in my femur, pelvis and ribs. That happens if I get up too fast, or bend over. On top of that I have the "bone aches and sharp zings" of pain for a day and a half after a shot. The first night I woke up shaking, because of the pain my body was experiencing.
457651 tn?1208363102 The pain might be due to the Neupogen. It might also be due to high uric acid levels. As the chemotherapy starts to have an effect and the cancer starts to break apart, a lot of uric acid gets released into the blood stream, and this could cause joint and back pains. If your pain is persistent, you may want to have this checked.
Avatar f tn The primary reason for using growth factors such as Neupogen or Neulasta is to be able to maintain the full dose and schedule of the chemotherapy regimen. Some chemotherapy protocols are much more likely to result in low white blood cell counts that cause dose reductions or delays than others. In these cases, and for older frailer patients, there may be an argument for prophylactic Neupogen/Neulasta.
1658980 tn?1330711550 My doctor feels that although my ANC went from 670 to 840 between Monday and Friday, that we need to be prepared for Neupogen in the event that it drops again. The insurance company has denied coverage for this because HCV treatment is not on their inclusion list for medical conditions approved for neupogen usage. WTF? I know that a lot of members have had issues with their insurance companies but was wondering if anyone ran across this situation and if so, how they dealt with it.
457651 tn?1208363102 I have hodgkin's lymphoma. I went to do my second sesion of chemotherapy this past thursday may 1st and they could not do it because my white cell count was down to -9. I was told to visit this forum since many of you Hepatitis patients are injected with Neupogen, which is what i was injected on thursday. After i came home, i felt horrible and the next day friday, was even worst. My back pain did not let me sleep and had chronic headache and pain in both legs.
Avatar n tn s immunity) and/or bio-identical hormone supplementation (to help improve moods) be helpful while on a course of chemotherapy (incivek (teleprevir) or victrellis(vocepier), interferon, riboferon, and neupogen, procrit ) for a Stage 3 (advanced stage) Hep C patient? Has any one tried these therapies?
Avatar f tn Neulesta or Neupogen are drugs to prevent white blood cell counts from dropping too low... I took the neupogen injectons and had to take them home with me.. I required 3 injections one 24 hours after chemo and then 1 each day after fora total of 3 With that said they can cause severe bone pain.. Just ask your oncologist for a pain reliever and you can get through it.. NOthing is ever as bad as it appears before you do it...
Avatar f tn We got a call withing 45 minutes to go directly to the hospital to the ER and get a Neupogen 300vg sq x 1. They told me his WBC was down to 1.5. A few weeks ago it was 2.2. What is causing this consistant falling of the WBC? No one can seem to figure it out. I am confused and seems no Dr. is too awful concerned about this. I have been told by his last Dr. that it may be related to bone marrow or maybe something else. Dah!
Avatar f tn You should call an dsee what your absolutel neutriphils are and if you doctor can prescribe neupogen to build up your white count. It sounds awfully early to be reducing or stopping dose and could impact your abiltity to clear.
Avatar m tn t improved much, anc goes up really high a couple of days after neupogen once as high as 6.5 (6500). Once I was late for an neupogen injection because I forgot it when I went away and it was at .3 again just being a couple of days late. I just wondered in general how the doctor handles getting these drugs approved. Many people have treated and kept taking procrit to stay at 10-11 hgb throughout treatment.
Avatar n tn She is currently in the hospital for neutropenia from chemotherapy (Herceptin + Vinorelbine). Both her hbc and wbc counts are quite low. Does neutropenia cause back pain? She also experiences severe side effects from taking medications containing codine and morphine. Doctors prescribed hydromorph contin but she gets very nauseous after each dosage. Tylenol extra strength does not seem to have very much effect either.
Avatar f tn 5) The use is of neupogen for hepC patients is somewhat controversial and may be unnecessary. There was a thread on this yesterday. I suggest you read it.
1669790 tn?1333662595 My anc tanked quite early in tx, at week 6 it was at 280 (.28) and I was prescribed 300 mcgs of neupogen for the remainder of tx, the neupogen brought my levels up immediately. My anc still went dropped to 250-400 several times at the end of the neupogen week and I began splitting the doses. Although it's not common I did get an infection the first time my ANC dropped. I guess Ill never know for sure if it was because of neutropenia or not.
