narcolepsy

15961113 tn?1444259013 Hi I was recently prescribed lithium for my bipolar depression and I was nervous about it at first. I have been on all kinds of antidepressants and mood stabilizers. I am currently on 300 mg twice a day, I am also on Lamictal which wasn't doing anything by itself. My only concern is that I also have Hypothyroidism with Hashimoto's, as well as narcolepsy with cataplexy. Does anyone know if my thyroid levels will level out over time and with my thyroid meds?
Avatar f tn I was originally diagnosed bipolar, then they switched me to schizoaffective bipolar type. As a child, I was never much of a sleeper (at sleepovers I was always last to sleep a first to wake.) But depression really does suck the energy right out of me. I've also noticed that I seem to be more affected by the fatigue as I get older (not to mention the memory problems!) As for coping with it, I haven't learned very well how to yet.
Avatar f tn This may sound stupid, but it's posing an issue and I'm really trying. I've always been ok and was pretty good at eating anything when I was a kid, I'm 18 now, and I suddenly just can't eat most things. All I can eat is pizza, chocolate and a few other things, it's horrible. I just can't bring myself to eat anything else, I gag on it. I'm worried about my nutrition and general health.
427801 tn?1203844562 well ive been prescribed nuvigil for my narcolepsy at 150mg every day. it worked for 2 days, but ive been on my own now for like over a month. im also bipolar, so the doc doesnt want to change meds without collaborating with my psychiatrist. however, my psychiatrist is like impossible to get a hold of. he only has an answering service, and you have to leave like 7-10 messages before he finally gets back to you...which is weeks later.
728965 tn?1266373645 I am challenged by many things and know so much I could write a book, but my Bipolar, nope. I know very little. All I know is that I'm extremely up and down. Edgy, paranoid at times. I know this is something I should ask my doctor, but this feels so comfortable here. Not asking my doctor. See I think she told me, but when she told me, I was so foggy. In June I was rapped during a very very bad episode of binge drinking. I don't remember a thing. All I know is I know.
Avatar f tn A little over a year ago I was diagnosed as Bipolar and am currently taking meds (celexa & wellburtin). My psychiatrist doesn't really seem to care that I sleep so much and has basically given up after switching my meds a few times without any improvement in my sleeping.] A few months ago I had a polysomnogram and multiple sleep latency test to test for narcolepsy.
Avatar n tn I think I have been Hypo for many years! I have been diagnosed as Fibromyalgia and Bipolar. Although the bipolar has been changed to Major Depressive Disorder with GAD depending on which doc you ask. No treatments have helped and I have been in pain for over 9 years. Now it is so bad I take narcolepsy meds to stay awake during the day - sleeping pills at night - anti depressants - Irritable bowel meds - overactive bladder and migraine meds - and asthma meds.
Avatar f tn I'm a seventeen year old girl and about almost two months ago I started having really realistic dreams or "lucid dreams" as I found out. While in my dreams I have a lot of problems breathing and often feel like I'm suffocating. I also get weird random little shocks in my body at different parts of the day. And I wake up with my body feeling sore like I got ran into several brick walls.
Avatar m tn My situation is a bit different as I suffer from Narcolepsy (the bizarre disease which causes me to fall asleep suddenly and unexpectedly, no matter what I'm doing (moreso if I happen to be bored), and no matter where I am (previously sitting at my desk working). Long story short...my Neurologist prescribed Ritalin as the first drug that I took.
Avatar f tn I would not sleep more than maybe 4 hrs a night until I was 18 and started taking meds for bipolar. Although they helped, my insomnia cont. When I was 18 I began having mild, infrequent muscle weakness in my legs with a shaky feeling inside of them.
Avatar f tn t feel refreshed after a nap or a sleep attack. I think I was missed diagnosed at age 13 as bipolar only made worse with mood stabolizers and antipsycotics for years. Once I took control as an adult and stopped meds did I just go back to night time visions and voices. I have all the symptoms but the feeling refresh, I am always tired except in the morning for about two hours and an hour before bed. With no problem falling asleep. I also am a stay at home mom with a relaxed life style.
Avatar f tn I am diagnosis with narcolepsy and have had symptoms for 5 years now. I have been taking 500 mg. of nuvigil for over 2 years. Plus, 60 mg of adderall a day. My symptoms have slowed down a little, but I have to take 2 naps a day and not drive anywhere. I have sleep studies twice a year and it seems to get worse each time. Its very aggravating to me! It seems like something would help. I see a team of specialists at Vanderbilt, but I need something else, but what? Anyone have any suggestions?
1287446 tn?1313947638 Hi everyone. I am not familiar with Narcolepsy or sleep disorders in general but my sleep has always been different. Typically, I fight daytime sleepiness with caffeine. In prior years, the caffeine has been a lot but I’ve lowered it significantly.
Avatar f tn I have Narcolepsy- My vitamin B 12 level is 235- should it be higher for my condition?
Avatar f tn Although the pt has RLS and PLMS, the arousal associated with these do not likely explain EDS- given a short overall sleep and REM latency, consider narcolepsy clinically. I had 156 arousals, 110 spontaneous, the rest due to limb movement. I also spent most of my sleep time in sleep stages 1 and 2, whith REM episodes scattered randomly. I had no time in stage 3, and when I had REM sleep it was from wake to REM with no progression through the other cycles.
Avatar n tn The combination of this study and my first MSLT nap study produced a perfect pattern for diagnosis of Narcolepsy. Has there ever been a study to look at the coorelation between the 2 diseases. Would many CFS sufferers be classified narcoleptic if they took the appropriate test? Narcolepsy leads back to hippothalmus and lack of production of hypocretin/orexin(?). Seems like all things lead to hippothalmus. Thank you!
Avatar m tn What you are experiencing could be hallucinations and delusions and they can occur with certain medications, stress, sleep deprivation, in certain brain disorders and with schizophrenia or bipolar disorders. When sleep paralysis happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. You will need to consult your primary care physician for assessment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn i was wondering if i should be tested for narcolepsy, or if diagnosed with narcolepsy would they prescribe me to something similar to adderrall? if this were the case, being tested would not matter much if they would give me the same medications anyways. I just dont want to be misdiagnosed and on the wrong medication for the rest of my life.
Avatar f tn There should be other options and although anti-depressents are used with caution in a person with bipolar and can potentially worsen mania (Wellbutrin being the least likely to do this) Adderalll is generally used for ADHD and because its a stimulant and has a highly activating effect unless a person has ADHD as well it is rarely used for a person with bipolar but you could speak to your psychiatrist more about that, what are other available options and what they are specifically trying to tre
Avatar m tn I have bipolar disorder, but my current mood is stable. In the past, during extreme depressions or manic episodes, I've had psychotic delusions. But never, ever anything visual. What's different now, my gut tells me, is that I've been getting considerably less sleep than usual. About a month ago, my brother gave me a new laptop. Before that, I'd been off the Web for a long time.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed as Bipolar NOS since 2001. Since then, I have been treated with over 24 different medications and combinations of those meds. I received sober living home treatment in 2004 and have been clean and sober since then. I then received inpatient treatment for Bulimia in 2008 and have been in remission from purging (though still restrict and overeat sometimes) since then.
535822 tn?1443976780 A new review published in the journal Public Library of Science ONE confirms that Pandemrix, a swine flu vaccine produced by drug giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is responsible for causing an up to 1700 percent increase in narcolepsy among children and teenagers under 17 years of age. Based on their findings, a cohort of scientists has determined that narcolepsy rates increased significantly following mass vaccination campaigns with Pandemrix.
