20003388 tn?1515166040 I'm just curious if anyone has been on Namenda and could tell me how long the initial brain fog lasted for you? I just started Namenda yesterday, 5 mg a day for 1 week then 10 mg a day in divided doses. I have memory issues and severe cognitive impairment. I was put on Namenda by a neurologist after a thorough examination. I expect the brain fog from starting Namenda up but am just trying to get a time frame for when I could expect the initial brain fog to wear off. Thanks everyone.
Avatar n tn Ahh Pristiq, The new SSNRI. Actualy just a slight tweek on Effexor XR. Interesting fact about Pristiq..... Wyeth's newest Antidepressant medication Pristiq, is actually kind of a sister drug of Effexor XR. In fact in terms of the active ingrediants molecular structure they are about 98% the same. You know why the Drug Company Wyeth would produce a drug so much like Effexor XR?

Avatar m tn ve been doing some reading, and from what I can find, the XR version can be given for panic disorder. Does this mean that the regular (non XR version) isn't effective for panic disorder?
Avatar f tn I, like many of you, take handfuls of drugs just to live thru the day and suffer side effects from the drugs is just as debilitating as the pain. My doctor allowed me to try Namenda, which is a alzheimer drug that works by calming overactive neurons in the brain. There has been studies to see if it helped chronic pain and most of them showed it did not. I wanted to try it for myself and she allowed me too. My shrink also thought it was a good idea to try.
564491 tn?1320360393 ve taken it for a number of years -- before that I took Xanax XR). I have found these benzodiazepam lose their effectiveness when taken for years. I also took Effexor XR for many years, but was advised by my headache practitioner to stop taking it, as it was theorized that it might be contributing to my quantity of headaches. I then tried Zoloft for a month, but stopped taking it (with doctor's approval), as it seemed like my headache quantity was returning.
Avatar n tn What can be done to prevent medications like Effexor XR from losing effectiveness with long term use? In 1995, I began with Paxil and praised God for the healing of this "miracle drug." Paxil began losing effectiveness and after seven years, doctors tried new medications like Lexapro which was less helpful. Finally I began Effexor, then Effexor XR, then increasing the dose last year.
585414 tn?1288941302 Yes I am somewhat familiar with that. For example Namenda which is used to treat dementia is in clinical study as a mood stabilizer and to treat tardive dyskinesia. However as those medications specifically effect those receptors by mitigating their activity they work in an opposite manner to glycine and the NMDA receptor modulates.

1690500 tn?1305906946 The withdrawal effects from Paxil and Effexor XR in particular are the worst. Withdrawing from Effexor XR using a low dose of Prozac helped a bit. You may want to tuck this piece of information away if you ever need it down the road. Before supplementing your regimen with 5-HTP, please discuss it first with your doctor. Although I believe you are correct regarding its association with serotonin, it's best to get the "ok" from your doctor.
Avatar n tn Hi Margypops, Axona is a brand-new prescription therapy launched in March 2009 for the treatment of mild-moderate Alzheimer's disease. As Alzheimer's is marked by a decrease in glucose in the brain (the primary source of food for the brain), Axona acts by providing/metabolizing glucose in the body to act as an alternate source of food for the brain.
Avatar n tn my grandfather wantws to put her on namenda,we tried it for a few weeks, but I saw3 her only become more hostile!! do you think a person at her age is really going to benefit from namenda at this stage?
Avatar m tn There is no conclusive evidence of alternate day dosage being as therapeutic as the initial dose or even the maintenance dose of XR 150mg per day. What we do know at this stage is that the dose of XR/XL 150mg every other day is recommended and appropriate for those who cannot eliminate the drug in time, such as in liver diseases. But with other conditions being normal, we are not sure about the effectiveness of 150mg alternate day dosage over a longer period than needed for a taper off.
