1430129 tn?1283281475 I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. Is this true? I also think I have a fungus on one of my toenails.
Avatar n tn I was okay trying to control(possibly) the fungus on my toes and my thumb and index fingernails. Now it needs like what my wife is having(black dot on her thumb) now resembles what I had once upon a time. I don't want her to fight with fungus. I did see a dermatolgist yesterday and she said my toes are likely fungus-related but she had I didn't have enough nail for samples. Prescribed me Penlac(sp?) and asked me to go back when the toenails grow out... I am so confused now.
Avatar m tn Fungal infection in toe nail needs long term treatment. The nail is the most difficult from where the fungus can be eradicated. You need take anti fungal tablet for at least 9-12 months. The entire nail plate takes 9-12 months to be replaced so you need to take this tablet for long time. No topical drugs only will be effective. Please talk to your physician for this. Wishing you good health.
Avatar m tn I have toe nail fungus on several toes on one foot. Is there a home cure? This discussion is related to TOENAIL FUNGUS.
Avatar n tn Hi, Since your nail condition has not been given proper diagnosis ,you may discuss with your physician a nail biopsy. Nail biopsy is done to determine the cause of the condition. Based on the results of the biopsy, your physician may opt for nail surgery as a method of treatment. For patient who underwent nail surgery indications include chronic infections like fungal infections , nail tumors (which I believe is not applicable in your case) and in some trauma and unknown causes. Avatar f tn The doctor didn't mention fungus. How can you tell if it is that? I always thought a fungus would smell bad wouldn't it? The nail isn't raised, hasn't been damaged and doesn't smell. I don't know exactly when it appeared because I only noticed it when I removed my nail varnish, which wasn't chipped or damaged as I guess it would have been if it had been knocked. I am hoping I am just paranoid now....
Avatar m tn It has yellowing underneath the nail, like a fungus which the dermatologist tested for and was negative, and whiteness on top where the nail looks dead, and you can see the new nail underneath. The doctor didn't think I had damaged the nail bed because it was growing out straight, but is funny looking. He prescribed a urea nail stick to aid with the fungus like matter under the fingernail.
Avatar m tn the fungus made it strangely shaped so that the line where the nail is attached to the skin underneath is very curvy, not straight, and not nice to look at. Other problems this causes is accumilation of fiber and dirt under my nail and on the side of the nail - where normal people have nice clean skin covering the side of the nail preventing such a thing.
Avatar f tn and Ketoconazole), as well as an anti-fungal nail polish (Ciclopriox), and also a nail film (Umecta). My nails are still deteriorating (see pictures, taken today...5 months of this). I am fairly certain this began from a bag of pistachios which must have been coated with a dust containing the fungus. Is anyone else suffering this? Does anyone have any advice? Thank you in advance for any help you can send!
Avatar m tn I hit my big toenail many years ago twice in a row and it got yellow from the tip of the nail. The whole nail also became thicker. The yellow part (half of the nail's lenght) became unattached over the time and a few days ago i accidentally tore the very same nail with my heel more upwards, so it lifted. It's still a bit sore and it's gone dark green from where it's now lifted.
Avatar m tn Soon after removing the nail tips, I started noticing my nails on my thumbs started to change colors. I went to the dermatologist and they prescribed Penlac to treat the nail fungus. After using Penlac for a while I noticed that it was not working for me. After that, I went back to the dermatologist and they did a culture and they said it was a fungus.
Avatar f tn So my nail edges look yellow. I've heard that yellow nails can be indicative of health problems. I also have yellow toenails but I went to the dermatologist and she said I had a toenail fungus. I was prescribed terbinafine for my toenails and have been on it for a week. But she didn't really check my finger nails. My nails have been like that for a while though.
1833444 tn?1325557062 No fungus just nails are dark and rough like ripples on the nail not smooth like a nail should be just hope it not another something to go with everything else ;-)
Avatar f tn ve been getting my nails done with acrylics and gels for numerous years but now have what appears to be an infection in many of my nails and they are separaed from the nail bed. Nothing I've tried seems to work. Should I have the nails cut down? See a dermatologist? Kindly advise.
569705 tn?1217017492 gave me pamphlets on hand eczema and the paper said that some eczema is associated with a fungus that also affects the soles of your feet. When I intially went to the dr my feet where already infected. The nails on my hands are also discolored and grow in what I can only describe has "ripples" and crumble off. I have been seeing this dr since January and am not happy with my progress.
Avatar m tn recently took terbinafine which seemed to help some in eliminating the some of the skin folds and white mark scars. although i think it is more geared toward nail fungus than skin.
Avatar f tn s got a rash on his hand a few years ago and now his thumb looks like it has fungus under the nail, and the rest of his nails grow out deformed and he get these small like blisters under the skin sometimes. what should he do.
Avatar f tn Hi GenevaJA, It sounds like you have Tinea capitus, which is a fungus called a dermatophyte that infects hair skin and nails. Some of these dermatophytes infect hair (and scalp) and can get into the hair shaft and make hair fall out. I would go back to the dermatologist or call them if you can. Apparently, the fungus hasn't gone away and/or has come back.
Avatar n tn Hi there!! I have a past with Leukemia. It all started in 2002 and in 2004 I was told I was well and all treatments receded. Then I was hit with early menopause and had to try for a baby with fertility drugs for almost a year. Nothing. I'm on Vivelle Patch now for hormone replacement therapy. I'm 26. Recently I've noticed some dark vertical strips on both my toe nails as well as in my hand. I did go to a primary care was told it's not fungus.
Avatar m tn For more than a month the skin on the top of my thumb at the tip of the nail has been peeling. When it started it dried out and cracked open and peeled back revealing fresh pink skin underneath. As that skin lightens and "matures" it cracks open, peels back and reveals a new layer of skin. Its a never ending cycle. There was never bleeding or pus, but when its revealing the new skin it is tender.
