Avatar f tn Hi, I fully understand your frustration in not getting a diagnosis. I'm going through the same situation myself. I'm pretty sure that an MRI is more accurate then a ct scan for picking up pituitary tumors, but maybe look it up online to confirm it, as I'm not qualified to give advice about the different tests.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I had a general MRI of my brain. would this of picked it up? would any of the blood work of picked it up?
Avatar f tn Hello, I spent ten years going to an ENT with the same symptoms If you are concerned ask for a cats scan or MRI. I was diagnosed with a pituitary Tumor after the tumor started pressing on my optic nerve and i had to call 911. The ENT missed diagnosed it for ten years so it kept growing now it is wrapped around the cavernous sinus.I had surgery and radiation i have been doing great since 2001. My advice is to be your own advocate get a CAT scan or an MRI. Then you won't have to worry anymore.
Avatar f tn Just knowing *pituitary tumor* is not very useful - you need to know what type of tumor so you know how to treat it. So without that information and a tumor that has grown in 8 months, you still don't have what you need to get treatment. So, you need to find a larger hospital or university hospital with a pituitary center and take all your records (get copies of everything forever and always) and find a decent doctor.
Avatar f tn A CT scan and MRI are pretty much the tests that will find a tumor- if you've had 3 scans that have been normal I would think everything is okay.
Avatar f tn Diagnosis is made through blood testing, medical history, symptom charting, and an MRI scan or CT scan of the brain. Once an enlarged gland is discovered, the search for a cause and treatment begins. Treating an enlarged pituitary gland involves treating the cause. If there is a tumor in the gland, surgical removal of the tumor or radiation treatments are in order. If there is bleeding into the gland, the cause of bleeding is located and the bleeding is stopped.
Avatar f tn Can pituitary tumor return after no treatment was given? I had pituitary tumor about 6 years ago and it went away on its own. It was pituitary microadenoma. After 3 years of follow up I was told I didn't need any more follow up being it was gone. Now 6 years later, there is a possibility that it has return. I went for a yearly eye exam but this time I had visual field test, the results changed from 6 years ago and now suspects that the pituitary tumor returned.
Avatar f tn t too big. Most people with a 6 mm pituitary adenoma would have a tumor half the size of their pituitary, if a pea was the normal size...... As you can see, I am still trying to wrap my brain around how the medical community could come up with this idea that the size of the adenoma dictates whether or not someone has symptoms. Just my own way of getting a visual of things.
Avatar n tn ve had a brain MRI (no pituitary MRI though) with contrast, spine MRI without contrast, chest x-ray, chest CT scan without contrast, full eye exam, and a CT scan of my abdomen without contrast. The only findings aside from the secondary polycythemia so far have been: high triglycerides (once, most recent), slightly high WBC (once, most recent). My thyroid was in the normal range (albeit low-normal). Could a pituitary tumor cause this? What could be the culprit?
Avatar f tn To my surprise, I was diagnosed with a small pituitary tumor (7mm). Suprisingly my prolactin level dropped back down to normal levels on their own. My loss of smell and taste were not related to the tumor. I have my peripheral vision tested yearly at my optometrist appt (he is aware of my pit. tumor) and it is always good. Because I have no delibating problems they are leaving my tumor alone unless I have problems.
Avatar f tn This is my first post here. A few weeks ago I had a CAT scan done and my doctor told me they found a pituitary microadenoma 4X4X6 mm. I just got a copy of the results and it says "possible microadenoma 4X4x6". I'm just confused why they put possible on the repost, is that to cover a mistake? I also have the disc & the doctor showed me the tumor. Plus all of my symptoms that I'm having are no doubt related to the tumor.
Avatar f tn You may have a hormonal imbalance as well. Just an MRI as monitoring for for the pituitary tumor is about 15% of the picture - you need labs to determine the real picture as that will tell you what the tumor is doing. Even a small 2mm tumor can cause real problems and MRIs have 3mm slices so it can be larger. I also highly doubt you have been getting dynamic pituitary MRIs.
Avatar f tn Dear Dr.... Hello again...I've been doing some more reasearch..I've been trying like crazy to come to some conclusion as to why I have been suffering with the chronic muscle pain in my neck and at the base of my skull and upper back. I've had joint swelling and stiffness.
Avatar m tn This is a copy of the MRI Scan results which i was sent. Can anyone tell me what some/all what this means? Findings: There is a very unusual anomaly affecting the left paraterminal gyrus and subcallosal area. These are enlarged and project down towards the left side of the optic chiasm. The medial portion of the anterior perforated substance is also affected. The sella is large and substantially empty. The remainder of the brain is normal.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to get some answers to how I feel now for a very long time. A bit of history on me: I have had Hypothyroidism for 15 years. No major complains, kept under control and taking 0.2 mg of Synthroid daily. In Feb of this year, I developed a lung infection and in turn was given a full blood work up. So I I know at that time my thyroid levels were stable. TSH - 0.09 (range .35-5.0) T3- 3.6 (range 2.6-5.
Avatar f tn MRI of the sella within the range of normal
Avatar n tn While this may be done to diagnose pseudotumor cerebri, to determine how high the pressure is inside the skull, this test is rarely needed to help diagnose a pituitary tumor. Diagnosis of pituitary tumor includes neurological examination, CT scan or MRI, visual field examination and biopsy. I hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn LL BE DEAD BEFORE I GET HELP- BEEN WAITIN\G 3 YRS TO GET FIXED AN NOW PASSING OUT- IT HAS TO BE FROM PITUITARY OR SCREW HITTING SPINE- NEURO SURGEON FROM UVA TOLD ME TO GET NEW MRI AN CT SCAN OF HEAD AN NECK- THATS WHAT ID SUGGEST YOUR DAUGHTER GETS- EVEN IF SHE NEVER HURT HER NECK- SOMETHING COULD BE PRESSING ON HER SPINAL CANAL IN HER HEAD LIKE MINE--- MY EMAIL IS HRTAGLD4@ YAHOO.
Avatar f tn He proceeded to discuss all the risk factors involved in surgery, which are many, but some of them quite rare. In my mind, the logic was, that the sooner I get the tumor out of there, the better I would be on all accounts, i.e., risk of having a repeat episode of sodium level dropping, risk of further damage to the pituitary gland and subsequent problems with continuing to take the steroids, risk to the optic nerve if the tumor continues to grow larger, so I was fully prepared to go forward.
10948614 tn?1414173719 I think I actually had a dynamic MRI of pituitary. I know that the MRI was of the pituitary gland itself in addition to the regular MRI. I'm not sure it was an actual "dynamic" MRI, though. I don't recall that term being used but maybe I just forgot. Lower TSH is hypo?? According to who? I've always been told that I am slightly hyper. Too much conflicting info with all this medical stuff, imo.
Avatar m tn Usually weight gain goes along with a slowing of the pituitary functions) I would always want to err on the side of caution and get an MRI if you can. My CT scan was negative and my MRI showed a fairly large pituitary tumor. Good luck and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Most tumours in regards to pituitary are non cancerous. An Mri scan is what you need as a Mri scan builds up a detailed picture of areas of brain. But be warned during the scan you will be asked to lie very still on a couch inside a long tube for about 3-4 or 8 minutes depending on how may pictures they need to make. Now its painless but can be uncomfortable, and some people feel a bit claustrophobic during the scan. It is also noisy, but you will be given earplugs or headphones.
Avatar m tn She needs to see a neuro-endo. All of her hormones need to be tested and the issue of the pituitary tumor needs to be tested to the point where they know what type it is and then it can be treated - after that tumor has been determined, then the other hormones can be treated. I had a *bouncy* TSH and it was my pituitary tumor - TSH is not valid when the pituitary is impaired after all, it is a pituitary test, not a thyroid test.
