Mircette for migraines

Common Questions and Answers about Mircette for migraines

mircette

Avatar m tn ve been told that its 1mg of norethindrone is still pretty androgenic especially for those who already have an imbalance. Would Mircette be an option with desogestrel being less angrogenic? Also, any experience with prescribed HALF tab of OC? (ie. instead of Loestrin 1/20.. use 0.5/10 for hormonal imbalance?) Just concerned about initial breakout. Just some background... I have not used OC previously.
Avatar m tn For the past 10 days I have had light brown discharge non-stop, bloating, and bad stomach cramps. I was on Azurette birth control for about a year and then I switched to Mircette(this is my first pack); so I was wondering if the switch could have anything to do with it even though they are basically the same birth control. I am due for my period on Tuesday the 29th. I am very confused as to why this is happening so I'm wondering if you have any ideas or explanations!
525501 tn?1212432217 m not going to be able to sleep for a while so I thought I would share a bit of info about mircette from drugs.com, This is important to me because I've been having slightly more discharge than normal even though no period. It seems to me that if the medicine effects the mucous lining that might be cause for the increase in discharge...from drugs.com "Mircette contains a combination of female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary).
Avatar f tn ve been on Mircette (a.k.a Kariva). Before I started Mircette I stopped my pills about 3 days before I was supposed to right before I was to start my cycle. Anyway, long story short, with this pill all I've had are bad gas and gas pains, some cramping but other than that I don't feel like I'm on bcp. Well yesterday I was supposed to have my period but when I thought it was here, I had mucus like cm and then some pinkish brownish discharge with it.
405614 tn?1329144114 I had maybe 5 migraines until my mid-thirties, then started getting menstrual migraines every few months. I started taking Premarin on my placebo days on my Mircette , and no more migraines, well maybe a few, but not many. I saw an ophthamologist on the 18th; he said my optic nerves looked very healthy, and that the floaters that suddenly appeared were most likely from the pressure change from the LP and CSF leak.
Avatar f tn I work in the medical field yet I have been blind to my own symptoms. I am 47 and on Mircette for birth control and as a prophylactic for migraines - so I do not have a period. For the past three months or so I have been waking at 3am (despite 100 mg Trazadone that had been working fairly for several years) soaked in sweat. Sorry for the run-on sentence. Anyway, I attributed this to stress and a worsening of my Anxiety NOS.
Avatar n tn I just recently had a baby on Sept 5, I have a prescription for birth control but I am not sure when to start taking them. I think the nurse at the hospital told me to start taking them on the third Sunday after the baby, but I am not sure. Can you help me?
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I have been on Yaz for over a year and I stopped around 6/13/08. My husband and I have had unprotected sex and for the past 2 weeks I have had tender/swollen breast, went up almost a cup size, very bloated, unexpected nausea that comes and goes. Since Friday I have had very light cramping and pelvic pressure that comes and goes, when I move around they subside. This might sound gross but around 6/25 or so when I woke up I was very wet.
Avatar f tn Hi - This is my first time posting, but I am certain that I have endometriosis. I have so many of the symptoms (pelvic, lower back and abdominal pain, bowel/gastro issues, horrible cramps, etc.). I am 39, but believe that BCP's helped suppress some of my symptoms for years until I had my last child (I was diagnosed about 10 years ago with IBS). I decided to get off BCPs and since, have been feeling awful. I am back on the pill (continuous Mircette), but still do not feel well.
Avatar f tn Also taking birth control (Mircette) continuously for period suppression (ie, only 4 periods a year -- 3 months of active pills followed by a one week break.) I am having trouble interpreting my latest labs with my thyroid and sex hormones... Sex Hormone Binding Globulin - 306 (high) Testosterone, Free - 1 (low) Testosterone, Free Percent - .3 (low) Testosterone, Total - 41 T3 - 229 (high) Thyroxine, Free - 1.5 TSH - 1.22 How is it that my T3 is elevated and the other be fine?
560881 tn?1222103577 I have had migraines problems for years at least 8 that i can remember.
Avatar n tn I started taking Omega-3 (fish oil capsules) supplements and red yeast rice for my cholesterol about six years ago. My migraines stopped. It might be worth a try for you, and with the side benefits Omega-3s are well known for.
735676 tn?1257572226 m on SSI for my migraines, and know others who are on SSI/SSDI for theirs, so yes, you are eligible that way. You want to apply for SSDI and SSI both. Since you've worked, you'll be eligible for both. I'm on SSI because I was disabled w/ migraines before I was 18 and so never worked. I was approve the first time around, but that's a VERY rare occurrence, so don't get discouraged if you get rejected the first time around. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Maxeran ONLY works via injection anyway... it does absolutely nothing for the treatment of migraines if given by tablet. If for some reason you have already taken triptans and strong pain killers prior to going to the hospital, ask for maxeran, even though it is not a triptan or a pain killer, for SOME reason it can completely stop a migraine... they're not sure why (i don't think) but... it works. ^ now, after this, you will find that you are not in pain, or at least..
Avatar f tn When I was having frequent migraines and my insurance would only pay for one refill of Maxalt each month, I obtained prescriptions for both Maxalt and Relpax and filled both each month. They worked equally well for me.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have experience with using Topomax for Migraines. I have had migraines for the last 3 years and have been rx Topomax. I tried it for a week and felt fatigued, more and worse migraines, spacey so I discontinued it. Tried again and after a few days landed in ER with vertigo. Dr. believes we should try again that it will be helpful after titering upwards. Wondering who has experience with side effects, what they were and if they waited it out did they get better or worse.
Avatar f tn I have had migraines for at least the past 10 years, as often as every other day. I was put on 100 mg of Topamax daily in September 2008, which helped immensely. I would still get migraines approximately twice a month, however. My migraines are triggered by bright sunlight (I live in Arizona!), orange juice, citrus, chocolate, processed foods, alcohol, some smells, pms, etc.
1545021 tn?1322477485 well for starters, I would deff get checked for Ehlers-Danlos...it could explain the endometriosis....the migraines may not be true migraines ...but even that the lesions can be a result of the HA's u suffer...or something else....have u had a LP?...sorry I can not remember. I always had what was thought to be migraines too, I tried going on birth control when I first got married, but the HA's got worse and I was told not to take them...
Avatar n tn Well, its most common use is for anxiety - which is fairly common for people with ADHD. You can read more about it here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propranolol What I don't understand is why your doctor didn't explain this to you. Especially if you are prone to anxiety, the not knowing only makes it worse.
Avatar m tn Ecspecially with children, anyway, how does phenobarbitol work to stop the pain of a migraine??? At the moment I am only on Topamax and take tramadol for fibromyagia, so I use that for the migraines as well. Triptains give me sever heart palapitations and cause my stomach and colon to bleed so they are not an option??? Any feedback???
1389553 tn?1280782127 Now, before I had the MRI, I was complaining of having severe migraines for the last 2 yrs. I was taking Imitrex for a while but, I did not like the way I felt-it caused my heart to beat too fast, felt I was surley gonna pass out. I am still taking Topamax to help preventing these headahces. It don't seem to help me. It is progressing, I had a hysterectomy last year of June of 09. I had Fibroid tumor in my uterus, I get severe cramping and migraines.
Avatar f tn Topamax, although there are many warnings on the medication, is one of the primary preventative medications used for migraines. If a person is having that many migraines you want to prevent them rather then take medications often when you're actually having the migraine.
