mirapex drug class

I never realized what a good night's sleep felt like until Mirapex....I started out on a drug trial when this medication first was introduced; my dosage was .25mg. Now, 20 years later, I'm up to 1.5 mg per night, but still sleeping like a baby. The OTC "restless leg" drugs are helpful, but nothing works for RLS like Mirapex. If you are without prescription drug coverage or can't afford it, the manufacturer will supply your drugs if you qualify.

Do you have any personal experience with this drug? My Neuro said something about it, at my last visit. I am currently taking a muscle relaxant, but find I cannot get through a day without pain medication, due to chronic pain in my legs. I would appreciate any info on Mirapex that you could give me. Personal experience seems to be much better than what the drug company's advertise about the drug.

I think the one you are thinking about is called Hylands and it is a supplement.

I was on mirapex for 3 years, my miracle drug, for my RLS during that period I develop a gambling addiction. I find out that this is a side of the mirapex.For the sake of my self and the loss od my my family I choose to get off of it.I It took me 2 trys to get off of them and have suceeded. I no long have the urge to gamble. ,Now I am on simumet for my RLS and it does not work like the mirapex , I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go to sleep.

The doctor put me on mirapex. She told me it would make me very sleepy and help to control the jerking and twitching at night to allow me to get better sleep. I spent most of my sleep time in phase 2 sleep with very little time in REM. My question is about the mirapex. Have any of you ever had issues falling asleep while on the mirapex? I find that once I do get to sleep it helps me stay asleep better.

hands... she prescribed Mirapex. I have not started it yet and wondered if anyone out there is using this medication and what your thoughts are. She recommended a TENS unit for the rib pain I guess it's caused from a miss-firing message between my spinal cord and my brain, even though no lesions showed on my thoracic MRI doesn't mean they are not there...hummmm.

During this time I was also having chronic kidney stones, about 4-5 a year, and with those I found the wonderful drug hydrocodone. It was like magic. It relieved my RLS, didn't make me tired and I felt great. I finally convinced my doctor to prescribe hydrocodone for my RLS, but he only wanted to have me take them at night. 2 each 7.5/325. The only problem was my RLS during the day, which was bad enough for me to take extra every day.

Was your PLMD during the daytime or only night? Nuurontin was the name of the drug my doctor said might be used as a "booster' if needed. I've only been on Mirapex 4-5 months. 1mg. This week I've still been twitching a lot where last week was pretty decent. At the risk of sounding really dumb lol, please explain the augmentation. (that's for boobs lol) If I'm thinking correctly a TENS unit provides an impluse to nerve endings? A little machine.

I do know that taking an antidepressant without a mood stabilizer can cause mania, also I take Mirapex (a dopamine drug) to help treat my fibro and I'm under "special watch" because the dopamine meds can cause mania even in people that aren't bipolar. My husband was taking Mirapex as well for his fibro and he had to stop because it made him feel manic, and he's not bipolar. So I can't speak for the seratonin, but the dopamine can definitely make someone manic.

my mother has extreme leg cramps at nights this started 5 years ago she could not sleep at nights because of the pain.she took all kinds of pain killers then took mirapex nothing would help for years. 4 years ago because of the pain and the sleeplesness she fell on her back and broke her neck she was in a halo for 3 months still the leg pains continued. the next year she fell again and was giadnosed with progressive supra nuclear palsy she is now in a nursing home.

I have severe Restless leg Syndrome. I have been on Mirapex for about 6 years now, and never had a problem. I am unemployed now, and do not have any health insurance. My doctor has been great to give me samples, however; they are out of them right now. My doctor tried giving me clonazepam 1 mg 2 nights ago, I walked the floors and tossed and turned all night. I called my doctor, and she said to increase my clonazepam to 2mg before bed.

Without an evaluation it would be difficult to say what effect would a particular drug have on it. I would suggest consulting an internist, preferable at a university/ teaching hospital for an evaluation and appropriate management. Hope this helps. Take care!

I have had several instances where my right foot (sometimes up into the calf) will cramp up so tight that one of my toes pulls under the one next to it, and it hurts a lot. My calves and feet had started cramping when I would go to my water aerobics class, before I got too much fatigue to go.

t know about the Monavie but what I take and is wonderful is Mirapex. I take it 3 times a day and have no restless legs unless I skip a dose or run out and then the RLS returns. I hope this has helped.

I had been having a lot of unexplained symptoms such as tremor, muscle twitching and jerking, tingling in my extremeties and severe eye pain and facial numbness. Migraine was ruled out. Since I started on the mirapex most of my symptoms have either gone away completely or greatly diminished. Could they have been simply caused by the sleep deprivation? Thanks for your time.

I'm on .25mg of Mirapex for RLS and am gaining weight. Has anyone else experienced this. Any idea as to why. Suggestions? Thanks!

Thank you for your feedback. We would also love it if doctors would give out MedHelp's URL to their patients to help track symptoms. Then their patients could just click Email This on their trackers and send it to their doctors for review. We could easily add Restless Legs as a symptom and Mirapex as a treatment to the Sleep Tracker. Would that work for you?

I meant to add that the neuro should increase your pain meds like Darvon to a higher dosage or stronger medicine, becuz RLS is controlled by that better than the Mirapex. Also the Mirapex does have "rebound" effect, where after a while, the drug loses its effectiveness and RLS will come back with a vengeance (like at night when you don't know it), so your Neuro should know what to do with the Mirapex when that happens.

I loose a lot of sleep. I get in day and night. My arms even jerk and have that restless feeling. Mirapex is taken twice a day and don't help. No drs will address it and I'm miserable . Is this a lack of a vitamin or mineral. Do I ever get rid of them?

I have never tried requip but my doctor has me on Mirapex which works wonders for me. I have also be told that there is an otc called hylands restful leg that works well too. eating bananas and hot baths before bed, helps alot too also stretching exercises, I lay on my stomach and hold on to my ankle and gentle pull back(towards buttocks) just until I feel the tightness, if you do this ever evening just before you go to sleep it helps.

I had moderate allergies prior to taking Zoloft, and virtually no allergies while taking it, although I occasionally took Claritin for spring allergies.

However, when thinking of the future, I will have to admit I am more frightened of RLS which I have had since I was seven. I am taking Mirapex for relief of this torturous malady, but now I am afraid of the drug. I take .25mg four times a day. I have had episodes of going to sleep and dropping whatever it is I have in my hands. As of today, I am trying to cut down and take half a dose in the morning and at noon. The drug has made my life bearable.

I have RLS and take Mirapex, .25mg about an hour before bed. It has worked great for me. I tried the Gabapentin and got up to 1200 mg - which was also taken before bed, but it did nothing for me. I have been told that Mirapex works much better than Ropinerol - you may want to talk to your doc about Mirapex as an option - it just went generic.

Ask your doctor about mirapex. It's a parkinsons drug that has done wonders for me.

Anyway I hope thsi helps abit. Mirapex is actually a Parkensons Disease drug but tests have found it works for RLS.
