Mirapex and bipolar disorder

Common Questions and Answers about Mirapex and bipolar disorder

mirapex

574118 tn?1305135284 I do know that taking an antidepressant without a mood stabilizer can cause mania, also I take Mirapex (a dopamine drug) to help treat my fibro and I'm under "special watch" because the dopamine meds can cause mania even in people that aren't bipolar. My husband was taking Mirapex as well for his fibro and he had to stop because it made him feel manic, and he's not bipolar. So I can't speak for the seratonin, but the dopamine can definitely make someone manic.
Avatar n tn I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder. i take lithium ER 450mg BID, Mirapex 1mg for RLS, and zoloft 100mg to treat depression. I can usually fall asleep, however i wake and stay up for a few hours every night. i have tried benedryl, klonopin, trazadone, serequil, and elavil for relief however every one of these meds has a paradoxical effect on me. Any suggestions?
410281 tn?1254229064 PLMD, RLS and apnea. My neuro put me on mirapex immediately upon seeing the results. I actually feel like myself again. I had no idea that I was sleeping so poorly, especially after hearing about so much fatigue from my friends here. I can wake up and actually be awake!! I still shake, twitch, jerk and am quite tingly. But sleeping well sure makes it all more manageable... So for those of you with sleep disorders, or that think you might, ASK about Mirapex!
559509 tn?1216180446 Does anyone out there take it for Bipolar Disorder Type 2? Any opinions or thoughts? I am currently on Lamictal and Welbutrin. I show mixed tendencies ( is that type 1 ),and my Dr gave me Risperdal for what appeard to be a manic state( I was off all meds at the time except Welbutrin which may have excaserbated my mania). My manic states don't last that long and it confuses me cause I am in somewhat of denial about my diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder which i've had for three years now.
Avatar f tn I read that Its 50/50. Depends though, I know ppl that are bipolar and have three kids, one has mood disorder. I'm bipolar, so is my husband and were having a baby in Nov. So I'm curious to see how this will work out. Either way what better people to help a child or someone deal with it then someone who actually has it themselves.
Avatar n tn Doctors try to avoid vyvanse and adderall ect with bipolar because it causes mania. Adderal is not used for bipolar. For bipolar i take abilify (aripiprizole) 10mg and 1000mg of divalproex sodium.
462570 tn?1273632977 A shortage or excess of these and similar neurotransmitters are thought to be responsible for emotional disorders like anxiety, depression, ADHD, social anxiety and mood disorder. Someone who has Parkinson’s disease lacks Dopamine. This question is best suited for the specialists. It takes years of education to have a good understand of how all these work together for proper functioning.
Avatar m tn I feel like I'm having a mind seizure sometimes. We still have very little knowledge of the mind and brain, though we are learning more and more. We don't really know why bipolar meds work, there are theories, but no hard science. I find addiction and bipolar to be more similar than seizures and bipolar.
Avatar f tn Hypomania (in the case of co-occurring borderline personality disorder and bipolar II disorder) may precede the emergence of borderline personality disorder in some patients, may surface a number of years later than when borderline personality disorder is first recognized, and in still others may become manifest at about the same time one is first diagnosed with borderline personality disorder." 1353681 tn?1387083733 I do not know much about this disorder, and a friend of mine informed me they are bipolar. I have heard traits such as aggression, mania, and being deceptive? I wanted a little advice or experiences from anyone who has been in a relationship with someone who is bipolar- what to expect or think about. Thank you for any insight.
571966 tn?1217110203 I have not been officially diagnosed with bipolar disorder. However, I have been reading a lot about it and listening to this "HealthTalk" podcast about bipolar disorder. I have been diagnosed with ADD. My doctor (who I only meet with for five to ten minutes) has prescribed me to three different anti-depressants, overall. The first medication was Lexipro, which did not help with my depression. So then he put me on Effexor XR.
Avatar m tn Bipolar I requires a full manic or mixed episode. Bipolar II requires at least one full depressive episode and at least one hypomanic episode, with no full manic or mixed episodes.
Avatar n tn I am married 6 years and have bipolar 2. I have had a few episodes during that time. I was diagnosed 2 years into our marriage. The last episode was a biggy and lasted six months and I am still climbing out of it. It has brought us closer together because I know he meant the 'for better or worse' part of his marriage vows. I am now on meds that are really helping. It isn't unusual for it to take years to get the right medication mix.
4658567 tn?1364142123 That being said, it is common for people with bipolar disorder to lose friendships for having bipolar disorder because of the stereotypes perpetuated and people's general lack of real understanding of mental illness. I could see it being hard for someone without the illness to understand if their friend was manic and doing some things she wouldn't have otherwise or even if the friend was depressed and withdrawing.
Avatar f tn My new doctor thinks I've been misdiagnosed for depression/anxiety. He says this based on everything I described to him and because general SSRI's just cause me more problems than good (high anxiety and side effects). He says I'm not BiPolar, but that I have a mood disorder, on the BiPolar Spectrum... maybe unipolar. He says he does not know exactly what kind of mood disorder yet, just that I have one. So he's trying me out on Lamictal.
