It's an antibiotic. It has a wide range of uses. Why did the dr say he or she was prescribing it to you?
The doctor may prescribe metronidazole to treat vaginal infection, Usually, metronidazole can be taken orally. Sometime metronidazole can also be inserted directly into the vagina with a topical gel.
I have Recurrent bacterial vaginosis (Gardnerella) for 15 years and tried different treatments (metronidazole, boric acid, probiotics, apple cider, hydrogen peroxide, I have BV every single time after intercourse. My dog has had giardia. My vet doesn't believe in fenbendazole as a treatment for it. He says, based on some research that was being done at LSU when he was in vet school there, that fenbendazole for giardia just doesn't work. He uses metronidazole (Flagyl). I took metronidazole gel at about 20 weeks for bv and baby is fine now at about 28 weeks

I know my pharmacist told me to absolutely stay away from alcohol while I was taking the pills because I would vomit alot, and he said most people wait a couple of days after they've finished before they drink. Im just wondering if two days is enough time?
Metronidazole can cause diarrhea as a side effect. But it may be also working on the infective cause of your dog's illness in the first place, so don't stop it without speaking to your vet.
Meanwhile keep your dog hydrated. If you can find an unflavoured electrolyte drink like Pedialyte that would be great. Plain water would do for a short time but Pedialyte would be better.
My heart beat is erratic most of the time anyway but when I tried taking flagyl for campylobacter, it didn't affect my heart at all. I just got extremely sick and intestinal issues worsened. They had to switch me.
Also after i have finished the metronidazole pills does that mean the (BV) odor has gone away?

The dose for a large lab would be 500 to 750mg twice per day tor 7 days (Do not overdose). If you have not given the correct dose or metronidazole than another course of metronidazole may help.
There could be gastrointestinal parasites not covered by the metronidazole, of course, and it would be best to have your dog's stool checked.
I started taking metronidazole and a probiotic supplement called enterogermina. After the first dose of both metronidazole and enterogermina I started having urgency to pee. I feel like I have to pee frequently. My urine does not have a strong odour and it is not cloudy and has a normal light straw colour. I was wondering if urgency to urinate may be a symptom of bacterial vaginosis or if it may be a side effect of metronidazole or enterogermina?
