Metoprolol for migraine

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol for migraine

toprol

Avatar n tn I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I've also been experiencing blurry vision and some concentration issues. I also take lithium, trazodone and neurontin and a rare xanax.
768044 tn?1294223436 In the Migraines and Headaches Community, tia1977 posted a question asking what the best prescription for migraine prevention was. I think that this is a very interesting question that we probably all want to know the answer to and I still think that there is no simple answer since we are all so individual and unique... BUT! I remembered an article I read called "Evidence-Based Guidelines for Migraine Headache in the Primary Care".
Avatar n tn Not sure I want to take the metoprolol, since I tried a beta blocker once for migraine, and the tiredness and dizziness made me feel like a zombie. My already fairly low blood pressure and pulse dropped quite low, which probably accounted for the zombie feeling. Now I also have GERD, and a number of people I know who also have this weren't able to take beta blockers for long because they aggravated the reflux (relaxed the upper stomach sphincter).
Avatar m tn I became somewhat faint at the time. I am also on Metoprolol Tartrate for b p (have been for more than 2 years).  I have had several episodes of irregular distortions that happened prior to this. The distortions happened while on a computer or looking at TV. Each time they happened I would get jagged like comic book balloons within the view. They were somewhat blurring or irregular misalignments within the view.
Avatar f tn I am a 73 year old female & have been on metoprolol for 14 months & have no problems with an elevated heart rate. After my exercise on a treadmill 42 minutes at 3.7 with an elevation of 6 it will get to 100 - 110 and then on cool down will get in the 90's. The rest of the time it is 60 or 70's. When I was in rehab, it seemed to be a little high after exercise but never 133.
Avatar f tn 2) Are there any alternatives to regular blood pressure medication for treating SVT? I was taking metoprolol tartrate 25 mg twice daily, but this caused me to experience chest pressure. My cardiologist took me off of it and put me on a low dose of cardizem. I haven't experienced any ill effects so far from cardizem, but I would much rather find a natural treatment for SVT like acupuncture or natural medicines. I know that bearing down can help stop an episode of it...
Avatar f tn At home my blood pressure was 186/82 and my heart rate was 100 (I take daily Metoprolol for PSVT, so this was a rather high heart rate for me). I was feeling dizzy and nauseated, no real headache but still the "hole" in my vision. Next, I noticed what appeared to be waves of water pulsating up and down in both eyes. I wanted to go to the ER but my husband suggested I take an aspirin and rest, which I did and the symptoms subsided.
Avatar n tn I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
Avatar n tn ve taken Lopressor (Metoprolol 50mg/day ) for ~ 5 years now. My hair over the last 5 years has thined out. I chalked it up as my body just being under stress, and never put the two together. I'm also taking Levothyroxine (for thyroid) now and have been noticing a little more again. Hoping it will stop soon as everything levels out. I've been told that vit. E helps. Don't know for sure.
Avatar n tn Had calcium score done a few months ago and score went from 20 (two years ago) to 19 (now). I seem to be doing a good job except for the HDL. I have been doing some research and have read that Metroprolol can lower HDL. My Cardiologist stated that I could switch from Metroprolol 25MG to Diltazem 120MG. (Resting Heart rate anywhere from 65-80) My only fear is that I have been told the Beta Blocker is better if you have Known heart disease. Can you give me your opinion.
Avatar m tn amitriptyline, botox injections, celebrex, clonazepam, cipralex, demerol, fentanyl, gabapentin, imitrex, maxalt, metoprolol, migraine prophylaxis, oxazepam, proplylaxin, prednizone, topamax, toradol, tramacel, valproic acid, zoplicone, zolmitriptan (I apologize ahead of time for spelling and/or duplicates in the list, there have been others as well but I have no records on hand) I have had the usual tests and seen the usual professionals associated with migraine such as MRI's, EMG, otolaryn
Avatar f tn Hello everyone. I am back with what I hope is simple question. A couple of weeks ago my doctor put me on Metoprolol for my PVC'S, elevated blood pressure because of fast heart rate. He also renewed my prescription for Xanax because I have severe anxiety. Has anyone taken these medications together and had any adverse reaction? I don't like to take pills at all but I am at the point I have to take something for this anxiety because I am barely functioning!
Avatar m tn I used to take a slow-release Propranolol 80 mg every day, which caused severe tiredness and extreme fatigue, to the point that I was not able to think straight and sometimes could not even get out of bed. Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol.
Avatar f tn Flecainide, Atenolol are often prescribed along with the aforementioned Metoprolol. I was on various dosages of Metoprolol for 6 years, but found it to be ineffective in preventing SVT episodes which happened about 3-5 time per month. At one point, I was on 200mg which is a pretty large dose. The med did make them earier to convert. I no longer experience SVT since my ablation, but still take a 50mg dose of Metoprolol to keep the BP in line. Are you sure this is SVT?
Avatar f tn Went to the eye doctor (of course) he told me that my eye looked great but what I probably was experiencing was a migraine in my eye. The doctor went on to say that the migraine in my eye was probably due to anxiety and stress. Hope this helps! Hang in there...we are all going to beat this horrible disease.
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
443862 tn?1237999439 I was on Metoprolol 25 mg er for 4 years. It made nervous at first and increasing gave me Eczema. If you don’t have heart disease and just high blood pressure, propanolol a Bateblocker, blocks anxiety by working on the Serotonin receptors in your gut as well as works to get your blood pressure down. But it is not a preferred cardio beta blocker for heart disease. I absolutely hate metoprolol. I believe I am allergic to it.
12182312 tn?1427683956 Quick question And I still will ask my doctor about this, but wanted your opinion. I take Paxil for depression, well generic brand, and also metoprolol for fast palpitations. My paroxetine is 40mg, and metoprolol is 25mg. Are they safe to take together. Is one an upper, one a downer. I take Paxil in the morning, metoprolol before bed.
443862 tn?1237999439 I have been taking metoprolol succinate for quite a time. at first I was taking 25 mg then after 5 months it was increased to 50 mg and a few weeks ago i was taking 75 mg. I don't why but this medicine is causing my airways to narrow because I don't have any pulmonary disease my lungs are totally find expect that a few months ago my pulmonologist thought I had COPD for my PFT but thankfully I don't...which make me think that it maybe cause of the Metropolol...
Avatar n tn I had a stress test and echocardiogram yesterday because I haven't been feeling good for months (nausea, dizziness, weakness, headache..) My doctor says my heart looks healthy other than having a fast heart rate (resting 112-stress test up to 188) and some extra beats here and there. He prescribed metoprolol to take only on an as needed basis since i don't need it every day. My question is, is it ok to take on an as needed basis?
Avatar f tn I am on 200 MG of Metoprolol Succ er! The Pharmacist at CVS gave this to me instead of the Toprol-xl my Doctor had prescribed. I think the dosage is too big and I have had more trouble with the pill than without. I took myself off it for a while, to get some sleep and to stop the headaches. The CVS Pharmacist gave it to me AFTER the drug was recalled. It is the big pills that they are talking about.
