Metoprolol and prozac

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and prozac

Avatar f tn She switched me to 100mg ER Metoprolol to take in the morning and 20mg lisinopril for the night. I had to take my bp every day and went back every week. Every week it would be high at the dr Office and she would increase the lisinopril. Mind you, I didn't take prescription anything prior to this except maybe an antibiotic when needed. Now I'm on these high doses of bp meds. Initially I thought well I'll get used to them, there's always an adjustment time.
Avatar n tn I can tell you that I have many patients that safely take metoprolol and prozac (as well as other SSRI medications). I have not seen clinical interaction between these drugs. It is probably best to call your doctor to ask them if it is ok.
Avatar f tn Does anyone think it is NOT the Prozac and that somehow the Metoprolol just now wore off (after 3 days) and my heart is permanently revved up? I am so afraid to exerise or do much of anything. Funny, both my cardio and psych prescribed exercise as my best weapon against anxiety! Go figure. If anyone has anything to share, I sure would appreciate it. I am soooo tired of this merry-go-round... I posted similarly in the anxiety forum as I am not sure where this fits best.
941118 tn?1312285526 yes I have stopped using metoprolol and didn't experience any side effects -- blood pressure and heart rate not being side effects, they are direct and intended effects.

Avatar m tn I have been taking metoprolol for some time for HBP (50mg, 2x daily), but was recently prescribed Prozac/Fluxetine (20mg, 1x daily), and upon checking my BP before I even take my metoprolol, it's around 120/70. I am concerned taking such a high dose of metoprolol and Prozac together will cause my BP to drop too low. Does anyone currently take this combination, and if so, have you experienced any issues?
Avatar f tn I'm taking the Metoprolol and Prozac for PVC's and occasional SVT that began after my first child was born. The vasovagal syncope diagnosis occured 10 years earlier when I was 17. At the time I was prescribed Norpace (dysopyramide) to keep my heart rate from dropping so low during an attack and that fairly well "cured" me.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am going to be applying to receive a medical marijuana card for treatment of my Tourette, severe anxiety disorder and PTSD. I take 25mg of Metoprolol Tartrate every morning solely for anxiety to slow my heart rate down (I tend to get anxiety episodes where tachycardia is the main symptom). I’m wondering if anyone (preferably a doctor, of course) would know if medical cannabis would interact with beta blockers, such as Metoprolol Tartrate.
Avatar f tn I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain. Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.
Avatar n tn 5 mg per day is there any chance that my body could build up a tolerance to it? And does the Beta Blocker weaken the heart in any way? Could those rates and there durations be caused be panic attacks and anxiety/stress? I had an ekg 1 month before this all started and it was normal with a NSR. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
Avatar f tn I am taking 20 mg prozac and have been on it for about 3 weeks. still feeling really anxious and stuff. how long do some of these meds take to work. i originally posted this question but i am new to the chat room scene.
Avatar f tn I am suffering exactly with same disorder when I am sitting and reading or sitting and surfing on mobile or computer. I first experienced it a month ago. My BP is 130/90 and when I went to doctor , they started giving me medicine "Metoprolol succinate extended" for BP control. But I think it is not related to BP or something.
Avatar n tn These things have really taken over my life and I just want to not worry about every skip and flip. I also take Prozac 40 mg because of my anxiety over these and it was working for quite a while and I wasn't worrying but I have been under stress lately and they seem to be coming a lot more. What in the heck does a person do when they can't find anything wrong but these are controlling them???? I have asked tons of people if they feel their heart skipping or anything and they say no.
503727 tn?1210442710 I've been on Prozac off and on. And have had all the tests run many times. Anxiety is SO hard to deal with. Dizziness and lightheaded are annoying!
733362 tn?1489798536 After talking to the doctor about it he was put on a very, very low dose of Prozac (child's dose in fact). Since then he rarely needs valium and he's been able to cut his pain meds in half. He still has an anxiety attack now and then but nothing like he was having. The increased heart rate is part of the anxiety attack. As I said please know I'm not saying this is what is happening to you...but it is what happened to my hubby.
Avatar n tn Maybe it wouldn't hurt to see your doctor, be sure to ask for an iron and B12 blood test, as I was misdiagnosed as having depression and put on Prozac before I went to see another doctor who did the blood test.
Avatar f tn We had is heart doctor go back in and look at the heart and it was doing really well. We had a monitor placed on is heart and the monitor never comes back with any irregular. He has been taken off of all of his drugs because they believed they may be causing his symptoms (drugs Pravaix, Metropol). We've had neurological test MRI and MRA and those tests only came back with a slight narrowing of the artery in the neck.
Avatar m tn You may be having an interaction between the Prozac and the Metoprolol Tart. Usually they work together fine if you increase slowly on one or the other, but sometimes you'll have to switch to another SSRI. How long have you been taking them together? Also, have you had a CBC test done recently? Do you know what your potassium levels are? I have atrial fibrillation in my family. Both myself and my father have it, but it only happens to us when our potassium or magnesium level get too low.
Avatar n tn I have tried Co Q10, taurine, omega 3 fish oil, prozac, xanax and who knows what else to try to stop these things. I have not tried beta blockers, but that may be next. I wish I could just relax as I know these won't hurt me...
Avatar n tn I have been dealing with a tachycardia (IST) for about 5 months now and keep looking for the right treatment. I've tried Inderal LA and Coreg, both of which made me feel sick and rundown. Now I'm trying Nadolol and we shall see how that works. I also have to take Florinef to increase my already low blood pressure. Does anyone out there have any stories on what meds they've tried for IST or SVT and what helped them the most, with the least side effects?
Avatar m tn I've been on Metoprolol 50 mg one in the AM and one in the PM and it makes me dizzy and makes me feel like my heart is squeezing and doesn't do grunt to really control my PVC's. I have a close friend who is a psychologist, my age, who has the same thing. He was on Metoprolol and complained to his doctor who forced the pharmacy to give him the real medication, Toprol. Toprol is the brand name. Metoprolol is the generic.
Avatar n tn I'm on Bupropion 300mg/day and Xanax (0.25 - 0.5mg as needed). Also taking Metoprolol 25mg/day for hypertension. I'd like to ask my doctor to add Fluoxetine to boost my serotonin. Are there any bad side effects from combining these meds?
Avatar f tn I am 23 and have been suffering from intense migraines for about 12 years. Seizuresfor about 3 years, but this isn't about the seizures.
Avatar n tn Not sure if I should eat certain foods not to interact with MMI and Metoprolol? How soon b4 meds correct Thyrotoxicosis? So badly want 2 stop beta blocker. This attending endo is playing nasty revenge game with meds very angered and hurt by his ignorant/dismissive treatment with any question(s) I want to address w/him. Thnx 4 listening 2 my questions/concerns Dr. Lupo, not many out there like you. Not sure where to complain about this particular attending endo dr.
959034 tn?1253675076 Dilantin (phenytoin), Prozac (fluoxetine) Moderate Drug Interaction MONITOR: Fluoxetine may increase serum hydantoin levels. The mechanism is unknown, but may be related to inhibition of hepatic CYP450 2C9 and 2C19 hydantoin metabolism. MANAGEMENT: Close observation for clinical and laboratory evidence of hydantoin toxicity is recommended if these drugs must be used together.
511019 tn?1214340923 I was given a small dose of Prozac and Metoprolol to depress the sensations and it seems to work. Unfortunately, the beta blocker lowers my BP and Heart Rate and therefore make me more prone to fainting then I have been for years. All in all my situation has improved as the years have progressed.
Avatar n tn I have extreme anxiety and don't know how to treat it except what I am doing. I was on prozac for also over 20 yrs and miraculously got off that. I really want to get better but have no clue how. I'm 61 yrs. old - too old for this. PLEASE, some advice?
Avatar n tn I now take Sotalol, 80 mg, twice daily and 10 mg Prozac for panic maintenance, an aspirin and 250 mg. magnesium. I'm doing very well. I still have a few atrial flutters and PVCs and PACs.
