Avatar m tn He immediately lost short term memory and now has started to lose long term memory. We have taken him for a neuropsychologist eval which revealed severe dementia of unknown origin. All neuro image testing has been normal (CT scan, PET scan) All blood work has been normal. He now presents like an Alzheimers patient with sexual inappropriateness but neurologist said he has the symptoms of an Alzheimers/dementia patient without having the actual disease.
Avatar m tn My mother (82) who has undiagnosed progressive memory loss. Her eyes are rolling back a bit and her eye lids are lower, as if she is sleepy looking. Is this a symptom of Alzheimers or Dimetia? This discussion is related to preventing Alzheimer's.
804276 tn?1480858056 i am 37, i have adhd, bipolar disorder, and anxiety issues. i have had really bad memory problems for most of my life and was wondering if my conditions could cause this. i have points in my life, many, that i just don't remember at all and they aren't bad situations. everything from what i ate yesterday to a family member coming to visit from out of town, years ago, but i don't remember it ever happening.
Avatar f tn Although she is in age of 80s and most common memory problems come with this elderly age as an Alzheimer’s disease, but it is essential other possibilities of memory loss and other symptoms like hormonal imbalance, stress/depression, and vitamin deficiency need to be evaluated thoroughly. In this disease, normal day-to-day activities have been affected more than memory loss. Therefore, I would suggest consulting a doctor to rule out other possibilities first with the help of doctor.

Avatar m tn i am the same age and was going crazy with the memory loss i came on here and freaked out. i went to a new dr, and he said it wasn't dementia or alzheimers it is my opcipital nerve. i was so depressed i thought i was going to be mindless at the age of 52 i am so bad and some of the sad part is i find that i can't react to situations. i was a cna for 28 yrs it was my job to react and now i can't. i saw a little boy drowning and i just sat there, i didnt say anything, do anything.
Avatar n tn You could be in for worse. Remember, your family member is not well. His brain is sick. Memory loss in Alzheimers is slowly progressive. Forming new memories goes first. Old memories are clear. It is a slow fade, and I wish I had known what I was getting into when I moved in with her. I wouldn't have done it.
948349 tn?1294380237 Just another thought, are you on any meds as some do cause short term memory loss, and even some supplements can do the same....
Avatar m tn I am a 46 year old male that has been experiencing some memory problems. Most people I know have memory problems so the question is what's normal. I can remember verbatim the last 30 to 50 words spoken on a television show or my locker combination from elementary school. But I can't remember where I set stuff down. I forget that I turned the tea kettle on or put a bag of popcorn in the microwave. I do remember it hits me, when I look for my tea.
202665 tn?1248806733 I experience some form of memory loss on antipsychotics but the medicine that really caused me to have that level of memory loss and confusion like you describe was Cogentin which can cause Alzheimer's-like side effects, although Cogentin isn't a psych med, it's a side effect pill. I don't know if psych meds can cause memory loss to that extent or not but I would bet it's possible although I would get other causes ruled out like you're doing.
Avatar f tn s lost some eyesight which is her biggest thing but she also struggles with short term memory loss. She really has trouble remembering names and mostly things to do, some details from conversations. Her long term memory and even memory from a couple of days ago is good. Her neurologist told her it could be the start of Alzheimers...I'm a little shocked because she has no confusion, can sort tasks, no problems with her checkbook.
Avatar n tn He has been experiencing short-term memory loss for the past 3 years. This spring, my mom took him to the doctor for a series of tests. They conducted an MRI to check for tumors or a possible stroke. They also conducted an initial screening for Alzheimers and dementia. Everything came back clear. The doctors agreed that there is some short-term memory loss but not enough to warrant medication.
Avatar n tn Can Remeron cause memory loss? Can it cause disorientation? Can it cause brain damage? What could be the cause if you have continued memory loss and disorientation 4 months after discontinuing use? Will there be any improvement?
Avatar m tn The problem of increasing memory loss did not occur to me until recently so you may never have any increased memory loss, if you even have any now. The finger pain is probably a pinched nerve which will not repair. Pinched nerves have no relationship to memory issues, they just occur. Many people have mood swings, so for you that may just be a matter of needing some therapy to deal with.
Avatar n tn Thank you for the information. My husband is 74 years old and has been experiencing memory loss, confusion, weight loss. He is under a doctor's regular care and scored a 21 on cognizant tests, where the norm is 23-24. It was found that he was extremely deficient in vitamin b-12 and has been put on agressive b-12 injection regiment, along with the brain scan. I do see some improvement (which, I hope, is not wishful thinking). With the b-12, should we dramatic improvement?
Avatar n tn Alzheimers is a form of Dementia where the brain cells die causing loss of memory and 'tangled' thoughts with the thinking process. There are many forms of Dementia....Alzheimers being one of them. Basically it is where the frontal lobe of the brain starts to die off. There is thought to be some connection between thyroid issues and Dementia but not enough evidence to prove this. Most types of Dementia are caused by aging....and Alzheimers being one of the most common signs of Dementia.
Avatar f tn after 1 year she was given the MMSE test and her memory had not deteriorated at all...I have been researching possible causes for her short term memory loss, which was much of the time, selective, I have reason to believe that she suffered from Pseudo Dementia...Can you refer me to any medical studies or documented information on this subject....
Avatar n tn He has short term memory loss, but also forgets alot of things which has become progressive, he has become aggressive, confrontational, verbally abusive. He seems to want to argue with everyone he comes in contact with. We've been married 22 years and he was not at all like this back then. He's now 71 I'm 57.
385668 tn?1301793880 Is there a suppliment one could take to detur this disease. I am a 59yo female, and frankly find memory loss a daily diet. I am frigtened because mom had this disease, I will be destin to get it also. Any thoughts........
765802 tn?1263300851 one thing I do know that I have experienced and many others also that some meds especially when you take a few, cause short term memory loss, especially the anti depressants like Xanax and Lexapro...This is one reason I only use supplements now and indeed I have even noticed it with some of those like 5HTP ..so first I doubt if you have alzheimers however do get it checked out if you are concerned . Ask a Pharmacist about the mix of meds as you may find its as simple as that ....
Avatar m tn s a lucky girl to have you sticking beside her the whole time. It is not unusual for a head injury to cause some form of memory loss, and this is because these particular brain cells have been damaged as well. The body heals in miraculous ways and it IS possible for your girlfriend to regain her memory, and for these brain cells to be repaired. It will take time, and this will definitely be a test of patience for the both of you.
Avatar m tn Researchers are eager to find factors that help patients dodge the mind-robbing ailment or withstand its effects. Previous research showed that having more years of formal education seemed to delay the memory loss associated with Alzheimer's. In the new study, Catherine Roe of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and colleagues performed positron emission tomography, or PET, scans on the brains of 37 people with Alzheimer's and 161 people without the disease.
Avatar m tn //www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/alzheimers-disease/in-depth/memory-loss/art-20046326 This link has emotional disturbance, stress and anxiety listed for a reason to have short term memory issues but this is more in the realm of not remembering that moment, not forgetting people, places and things in the recent past and going to a different time in your life. that sounds almost like dementia. I would talk to her doctor about it and then see if they think she should see a neurologist.
Avatar m tn o mom was diagnosed in 2003 with large (golf ball size) meningioma and asymptomatic thus far but has fairly severe memory loss in the past year. just had annual mri and followup consultation with neurosurgeon this week to see if memory impairment was directly related to the tumor or possible early dementia/alzheimers. He is starting her on dexamethasone to answer that dilemma but is short term only.
