Avatar n tn I had a mitral valve replacement 5 years ago. I continue to have short-term memory loss, reduced reading comprehension, and difficulty processing information. It is extremely frustrating, trying to cope with this as a middle school teacher. Given my age (51), I'm not sure an alternative career is in the picture.I try to cope by always being prepared in advance (living for the post-it note); however, this is taking a toll in the form of 12-14 hour days and working weekends to "catch up.

Avatar f tn i have had no traumatic injuries or anything like that to cause memory loss.. but i do have it. it seems to affect both long and short term. it's become a nuisance to my daily life. i've been trying really hard to find a root cause or condition. i did make an appointment for it.....but i forgot to go :( anyway i've had several times where i've gotten a form to fill out and for the life of me i can't remember how old i am...
Avatar f tn Medication has caused memory loss in my case. Doc. says it's not so, but as soon as I come off my memory's back to normal. As I'm now considered old it's not too much of a problem for me. I accept the unwanted side-effects for the benefits received. Short term memory loss at your age sounds odd, Get it checked out asp. Try not to worry meanwhile. Memory is precious, long term seems to stay intact when the short term goes in my case.
Avatar m tn Hi, Thank you very much for your question; although it is quite difficult for me to give you a precise diagnosis here without being able to examine you, though I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern. You need a proper assessment and investigation here since there can be many causes for memory loss & concentration impairment.
Avatar n tn About an hour later he suffered a brief episode (1-2 min) of short term memory loss. He could not remember the weekend holiday or do sums. Other than feeling cold he did not exhibit any physical symptoms. He had another episode about three weeks later. A neurologist examined him and found nothing but set up an EEG. He has had no other episodes. Any suggestions as to what to ask during/after the EEG or what the potential cause might be? Thank you.

1339419 tn?1275966042 As we age, we all suffer short term memory problems and cognitive abilities, but to a different degree in different people. Avatar m tn Puzzles and mental challenges have been shown to be somewhat protective against loss of mental function, however this has been studied in seniors, less so in people your age who should be at the peak of their cognitive functioning. So if you want to avoid doctors or medications, you may wish to look into ways of living healthy and compensating for your symptoms. Yoga and martial arts can be good ways to learn to focus your mind.

Avatar f tn My fingernails also turned blue. When I was in middle school, an administrator saw me like this and demanded I go to the nurse because he thought I had a high fever, but my temperature was normal. More recently, I turned blue and coworkers thought I wasn't getting enough oxygen but I got it tested and it was 100% saturated. Sometimes my hands will get very red, painful and swollen.
