Common Questions and Answers about Medroxyprogesterone acetate

depo-provera

Avatar f tn I got the prescription from the doctor to take 10mg/day of MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE. However, since I started taking the medicine too late, 2 days after I took the medicine, I still had my period, so I stopped taking it. On May 13th, I had unprotected sex. My question is: is it safe to get pregnant within a month after taking 20mg of MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE? Many thanks!
Avatar m tn My girlfriend will start taking Medroxyprogesterone acetate, my question is if there’s a waiting period before we can start having sex without any other kind of contraception (like condoms or diaphragm) Thanks for the atention
Avatar f tn If you were my patient, I would advise you that the medroxyprogesterone acetate will probably help to bring on your period, but won't help you to ovulate and therefore won't help you to conceive. If you are trying for pregnancy and are not having cycles, you may need to start a medication such as Clomid or Femara--make sure your doctor knows that you want a baby and not just a period! Good luck!
Avatar f tn HI! If you are referring to Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate) it can be up to two weeks before you get any "results". I usually ask my patients to call me if they have not had any bleeding by two weeks later. At that point, I would probably check a pregnancy test (you may want to do that now!) and go ahead with the Clomid if it was negative. Good luck!
Avatar m tn One example is Medroxyprogesterone acetate, which is an antiandrogen. This is used in cases where men feel that they cannot control their sexual impulses. The Medroxyprogesterone acetate will control urges and also may diminish pre-occupation which should make it easier to practice self-control.
194374 tn?1214480294 Hi my doctor has just prescribed Ralovera *medroxyprogesterone acetate* for me to take. Has anyone else ever been put on this while pregnant? It is supposed to strenghtan my babies support system due to previous m/s and problems. In the pharmacists info sheet it says do not take if pregnant, suspect your pregnant or if ttc. Also that it may affect my developing baby????? It contains oestrogen and is in one case used to protect the lining of the uterus.
Avatar f tn The medroxyprogesterone acetate is harmless. It is not something we would normally prescribe on purpose for a pregnant woman, but it won't harm the baby. I don't think it will work either! It may be awhile before you have your period again--nine months! Good luck!
Avatar n tn Depo-Provera injection contains the active ingredient medroxyprogesterone acetate. It disrupts the menstrual cycle. It also causes irregular bleeding or spotting, heavy or prolonged bleeding, or your menstrual bleeds to stop altogether. It is quite effective in preventing pregnancy. This is merely an advice and not a substitute of clinical examination. Consult your attending doctor. Take care!

Avatar f tn Hi! If you were my patient, I would advise you that Medroxyprogesterone acetate doesn't help you get pregnant. It only helps you have a period if you are not ovulating on your own. If you want to get pregnant, you should probably ask your doctor for a medication such as Clomid which will help you ovulate too. Good luck!

473883 tn?1322856638 These include endometrial cancer, myoma uteri, or secondary to oral contraceptive pills intake or depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (dmpa) injection. I agree with the plan of doing a repeat biopsy, hysteroscopy guided or dilatation and curettage. This will help determine the cause of the endometrial thickening.

Avatar f tn My doctor advised me to take MEDRIGEST 10mg (Medroxyprogesterone acetate tablets) from 15th day till 25th day (i.e. for 10 days). Many are saying that I will get periods after taking medrigest. Many are saying if i am pregnant in this duration then i will not get periods. I just want to know what this tablet does with regards to pregnancy? Will it make me get periods if the egg is not matured and make me not to get periods if the egg is matured,i.e if i am pregnant?
Avatar f tn If you were my patient, I would advise you that it can sometimes take up to 2 weeks after finishing medroxyprogesterone acetate for it to work. So, you may still have your period. If you don't have it within 2 weeks of finishing, you should probably call your doctor back. At that point, I would then do some blood work including prolactin, thyroid, fsh and lh levels. I would also ask questions about weight loss and exercise.
Avatar f tn There is little or no increased risk of birth defects in women who have inadvertently been exposed to medroxyprogesterone acetate injections in early pregnancy. Discuss it with your attending gynecologist and get your doubts clarified. You may need regular follow ups and ultrasound during pregnancy to rule out any abnormality. Hope it helped. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn To get down to the nitty gritty--the problem is a lack of progesterone, and I would ask my patient to take some progesterone. Medroxyprogesterone Acetate should be available in most countries! I would also wonder whether my patient would like to go on oral contraceptives for cycle control--just for convenience. Good luck!
15714039 tn?1442454488 I am a 46 year old male and had been on a regimen of taking depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) starting from 2002 until I quit @ 2009. I also suffer from Bi-polar and have been on some od these meds and others for @ 15 years. I do know that I have to take most/some of these and that the SSRI's do/can cause ED.
Avatar f tn I went to see my gynocologist monday because I had spotting and bleeding since July 28th and ended up in urgent care that previous friday. My gyn Dr. wanted to put me on medroxyprogesterone acetate 10mg but while I was in the office they gave me a vaginal biopsy and was scheduled for a ultrasound so I wanted to get my results before I start my hormone medicine.Doctor called me the next day and said I have a non-cancerous firbroid and polyp from the biopsy results.
Avatar n tn Therefore, it might not show up in the blood test for progesterone, even though your body has plenty of progestin for your needs. In general, people should not need to add Provera (which is medroxyprogesterone acetate - a progestin). Don't worry if your progesterone level doesn't go up. Also, the birth control pill prevents you from ovulating so your own progesterone level won't go up either. There is no reason to break your pills into pieces.

Avatar n tn 4 weeks ago I had a dermoid cyst removed along with my right ovary and fallopian tube, which were too damaged to save. The cyst was bigger than a grapefruit and was thought to be a functional cyst until they actually performed the surgery. Now I have another cyst on my left ovary that is approx. 2cm. I am told by my ob/gyn that this is a functional cyst and we are using the "wait and see" approach.
Avatar n tn 625 mg in combination with medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) 2.5 mg daily (versus placebo). The primary outcome of the trial was coronary heart disease (CHD); hip fractures were a designated secondary outcome and invasive breast cancer was a designated primary adverse outcome. Additional outcomes are listed in the article.
Avatar n tn SSRI (serotonin specific reuptake inhibitor) such as Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, and Celexa which reduce the libido in some persons may also help with compulsive sexual activity. Medroxyprogesterone acetate diminishes libido in men and thus enables the person better control sexually addictive behavior. I suggest consulting a mental health professional for an evaluation.
Avatar f tn The causes of abnormal uterine bleeding include endometrial cancer, myoma uteri, functioning ovarian tumor, adenomyosis, or secondary to oral contraceptive pills intake or depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (dmpa) injection. I agree with the plan of doing a biopsy, hysteroscopy guided or dilatation and curettage. This will help determine the cause of the endometrial thickening. Good luck.
