Marinol for pain management

Common Questions and Answers about Marinol for pain management

marinol

Avatar m tn I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. I am in Athens, GA; does anyone know of a doctor willing to prescribe this medicine for pain (when you have not been diagnosed with a cancer...yet?
Avatar m tn I would suggest seeing an orthopedician and if required a pain management specialist for a detailed evaluation and suggestion of an appropriate management plan. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn A few chronic pain patients have been prescribed Marinol for pain and attest that it is very effective for pain. I have heard it is very psychoactive and the prescription has strict instructions to NOT DRIVE. LOL, unlike opioids as once you are tolerant you can drive just as well as anyone else not on opioid therapy.

Avatar m tn 5 mg (lowest-dose) marinol per day to stay out of pain. Medicare and Humana will not cover marinol for pain or BP since manufacturers have not submitted these applications to the FDA. In addition, dosage and timing are big problems... Doctors do not understand that (1) the only available form - refrigerated gel tabs - do not take effect until 2.5 hours and (2) the effects only last for another 3 hours.
1503794 tn?1289543525 Hello & thank you in advance for any help you could offer. I am 37, f. I have had a yellow/white "pimple-like" lump on Right-eye skin/white of eye for about 1yr with irritation, pain, tenderness, dishcharge (a stringy substance, sometimes clear, white or yellow to greenish-both eyes), feeling of hair or foreign body in eyes, seeing lines like hairs w/nothing in them, dry eyes, excesive blinking. Told Dr. & she wasn't woried but I am.
Avatar n tn Will I ever go a day without pain with pain management. So far since Jan 2010 I've had 40 shots and still so much pain. Tried to go off my pain meds. Still in so much pain any suggestions.
Avatar f tn They are hard to find but typically the doctor you would visit to get your MMJ license renewed would prescribe the opioids or refer you to another doctor that is MMJ Friendly. Another option is for you to ask the doctor for a prescription for Marinol...it is synthetic THC. I should mention that when my mother was dying from cancer, she said that the Marinol wasn't helping her eat, it was only the real marijuana that helped but things may be different for you. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Marinol is just pharmaceutical MJ, and docs cannot prescribe it for w/ds. I agree with the others, ride it out. Anything you're feeling won't harm you....just just have to get through it. Wanting to turn to another drug to ease the w/ds from the first drug is how people stay stuck on the merry-go-round.
Avatar f tn I've read about some people diagnosed with ADD taking marinol as a form of medication. I was wondering what effects it would have when taken with adderall, or as a replacement for other meds. What sort of side effects, and/or lack of side effects to make other meds more effective.
Avatar m tn What type of doctor prescribes the Marinol for gastroparesis? I am at a loss. I have asked the GP, Pain Management, Gastroenterologist, etc... How is one to get help?
163305 tn?1333668571 There's a form of marijuana in pill form... it's called MARINOL (Dronabinol). I was put on it when I lost 40lbs as a side-effect of taking another medication. The side-effect of MARINOL, is that it gives you the munchies and MAKES you want to eat. Gained the weight back slowly, and stopped taking it. Makes me wonder why they went all-out, and went the actual marijuana route, instead of trying MARINOL first.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I have IBS, I also have cardiomyopathy and pulmonary hypertension. I get severe pain in my abdomen. It is beyond any other pain besides the worst migraine I've ever had. The pain is so bad I usually end up pouring sweat and putting as much pressure on my gut as possible until it passes. I use guided meditation sometimes and that helps a lot. My Dr. has run through all of the standard medications, and many are not available to me because of the cardiac problems.
Avatar f tn Hi all, Since my last post, my daughter got a gtube to match her jtube and had an upright MRI to rule out Chiari malformation (it was ruled out). The gtube stopped her vomiting (it all comes out the gtube now), but daughter still has terrible pain and nausea and diarrhea with jtube feeds. The marinol and promethazine do MOSTLY knock her out so she doesn't feel the pain while feeding, but she wakes up anyway to run to the bathroom with diarrhea and yell from the pain.
338489 tn?1215558109 Has anyone who lives in Canada been prescribed Sativex, the cannabis based med? My reading shows that it is really good for numbness. Of course, can't get it here in the states. Worried we might all become junkies!

1159737 tn?1286517257 I gave it up for awhile (had to...urine tested) when I started seeing my Pain Management Dr. Tried the Big Pharma gammet for 2+ yrs! NO MORE DAMAGING MY BODY!!! I prefer sticking to Mother Nature, Thank You! ;) BTW...You just have to figure out the right "moderation dose" every 1-3 hours...depending on the strength & strain...as different "strains" can have different effects!! Also...as someone mentioned...a vaporizer is the way to go!
Avatar f tn Is Marinol pills good to use in kids who have seizures from Chiari malformation type 1
Avatar m tn I have liver cirrhosis and when I became ill, my doctor prescribed Marinol for weight gain. I had lost 85 lbs and gained 30 pounds with this treatment. My doctor discontinued the Marinol and my weight decreased. I am 6'2" tall and am considering smoking marijuana to achieve the weight gain I am comfortable with. Will this method injure my liver further or have no real effects to it?
Avatar m tn Were you seeing a pain specialist before or were you seeing your family Dr?I'm asking because if was your family Dr some of them know little about how to manage chronic pain. A pain specialist does. That's what I would recommend, getting in to see a pain specialist. Ask your family Dr to recommend one or you can do your own research on the internet to find one with high patient ratings. One that truly understands their patients and their needs.
2183581 tn?1369937547 But I have been in chronic pain for the past few years. And have been struggling for the past year with no insurance. Fighting with doctors dealing with stolen meds, bad massage therapist, bad acupuncture, and trying to deal with my life. Okay another the catch up my post for my question is related to this. I finally broke down and paid cash to see a pain management doctor in desperation hoping that he could help me get off the couch.
