I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. I am in Athens, GA; does anyone know of a doctor willing to prescribe this medicine for pain (when you have not been diagnosed with a cancer...yet?
A few chronic pain patients have been prescribed Marinol for pain and attest that it is very effective for pain. I have heard it is very psychoactive and the prescription has strict instructions to NOT DRIVE. LOL, unlike opioids as once you are tolerant you can drive just as well as anyone else not on opioid therapy.
5 mg (lowest-dose) marinol per day to stay out of pain. Medicare and Humana will not cover marinol for pain or BP since manufacturers have not submitted these applications to the FDA. In addition, dosage and timing are big problems...
Doctors do not understand that (1) the only available form - refrigerated gel tabs - do not take effect until 2.5 hours and (2) the effects only last for another 3 hours.
There's NO proof what so ever that it's " Worse " on your body than Pain Killers ! They call them " Killers " for a reason ! I've been on them for 5 years and they're killing my body ! I can't live with the pain, but the pain med's are killing my organs. I've never been a pot smoker, never liked the way it made me feel. I'm 47 and most people when I was young smoked it all the time, NOT ME !
Will I ever go a day without pain with pain management. So far since Jan 2010 I've had 40 shots and still so much pain. Tried to go off my pain meds. Still in so much pain any suggestions.
Is it of your opinion that Marinol can be an alternative drug to treat Multiple Sclerosis? I cannot handle shots, and I know there are many side effects from the shots.
I want and need to stop smoking pot but want to avoid the w/d's, need to work etc. It's my understanding Marinol can ease the symptoms considerably. Anyone know how to get it? I tried going to the Dr but he would not prescribe it off-label. Any suggestions?
I took 1 2.5 mg Marinol cap about 2 weeks ago. I don't do drugs. The pill was taken by mistake.

I've read about some people diagnosed with ADD taking marinol as a form of medication. I was wondering what effects it would have when taken with adderall, or as a replacement for other meds. What sort of side effects, and/or lack of side effects to make other meds more effective.
What type of doctor prescribes the Marinol for gastroparesis? I am at a loss. I have asked the GP, Pain Management, Gastroenterologist, etc... How is one to get help?

I have IBS, I also have cardiomyopathy and pulmonary hypertension. I get severe pain in my abdomen. It is beyond any other pain besides the worst migraine I've ever had. The pain is so bad I usually end up pouring sweat and putting as much pressure on my gut as possible until it passes.
I use guided meditation sometimes and that helps a lot.
My Dr. has run through all of the standard medications, and many are not available to me because of the cardiac problems.

Since my last post, my daughter got a gtube to match her jtube and had an upright MRI to rule out Chiari malformation (it was ruled out).
The gtube stopped her vomiting (it all comes out the gtube now), but daughter still has terrible pain and nausea and diarrhea with jtube feeds. The marinol and promethazine do MOSTLY knock her out so she doesn't feel the pain while feeding, but she wakes up anyway to run to the bathroom with diarrhea and yell from the pain.
hi i am 34 yr old female and i have been diagnosed with an hemangioma on the liver i have been to several docs for severe pain up under my ribs trouble eating sleeping and my stomach is now been bloating my pain is constant and i had been put on marinol for my pain they have not done a biopsy but say my tumor looks benign thay have done 13,000 dollars in testing and keep saying it is not from my tumor.
I have liver cirrhosis and when I became ill, my doctor prescribed Marinol for weight gain. I had lost 85 lbs and gained 30 pounds with this treatment. My doctor discontinued the Marinol and my weight decreased. I am 6'2" tall and am considering smoking marijuana to achieve the weight gain I am comfortable with. Will this method injure my liver further or have no real effects to it?
I have had surgery twice on my lower back and was put on gabapentin for nerve damage and the meds made me very sick so I started smoking pot, it work on my mother whom had cancer per the suggestion of her doctor but not a suggestion cause of it being illegal. The back pain is back and the surgean referred me to PM and gave me the same meds gabapentin and hydrocodone, so I started smoking again otherwise I get sick dont eat, puke bile.

Do everything Jerry said. He did give you great advice and I think if you do these things everything is going to be alright.
Yes, they do put all prescriptions on one or two pages now. It's not like it used to be where you would get one for every single script. Your regular pharmacist was not the one who filled them. And why in the world do these DRs think any of us would ever sell our medications?!!!
