Does the antibiotic macrobid used to treat uti's decrease the effectiveness of birth control? Because I'm on the pill and I shouldn't get my period for another week and I've been bleeding.. This makes me nervous because while taking macrobid I had sex without a condom, he pulled out, but I know that's not always a safe alternative either.
I know that during early pregnancy bleeding isn't uncommon. I'm scared out of my mind..
I returned to the doctor today after finishing my antibiotic and to get the results from the culture. To my surprise, I was told today that she reviewed ALL my cultures since age 17 (including the current one) and said because of the type of bacteria involved the cultures weren't able to be developed right?
ive never heard of an antibiotic killing any baby... but of course i am no dr. either i just dont think your dr. would prescribe you something that would harm your unborn child.
I'm 10 weeks and I have a UTI. ER doctor prescribed me Macrobid 100mg BID for ten days. Have any one taken this while pregnant? I googled it, and there were a lot of horror stories......just curious to see if others have taken, and there pregnancy remained normal...
so i am currently on my last day of the generic form of macrobid, an antibiotic for a uti. Naturally I was afraid to go on it because this was the first antibiotic i have taken in about 5 years, since I had an allergic reaction to penicillon which was deadly. So I strted the macrobid and I felt decent for the first 4 days. Just a little tired but nothing I could not handle.
I have relapsing-remitting MS and was given Macrobid for a UTI. After my first day of Macrobid, my entire left side has gone numb and i have lost function in it. I do know that the weakness and numbness in one side can be caused by the MS, but it did not occur until i took the macrobid. I was stopped from taking the macrobid and started on it 2 more times and each time the weakness returned. Is there anyway to fix this?
I have taken it for the first time the past three days and the infection is still quite apparent especially during the night when I can feel the internal discomfort. Normally with the use of Cipro I would be on the mend by the end of 3 days. Is there any merit in taking both meds or should I or even can I just switch back to Cipro mid treatment.
6 weeks ago, I took a course of Macrobid (generic) for a UTI. After completing the 7 day cycle, I developed excruciating heartburn, to the point of tears. The following day (2 days after Macrobid) I started itching (scalp, chest, neck, arms...) This has gone on for 6 weeks! I have been to the doctors, ER, allergist to no avail. ALL of these professionals claim that pruritis (chronic itching of the skin) could NOT be caused from an anitbiotic this long after completing it.
After unprotected intercourse and oral sex with a new girlfriend I soon developed bleeding of the gums and an intermittent light burning in the prostate area. Is Staphylococcus considered an STD and will the antibiotic Microbid kill it?

Most of my kidney infections were treated with Cipro (antibiotic). I have been on Macrobid as well, it is a milder form of antibiotic.
The problem with antibiotics is that it kills of the needed bacteria in the bowel, allowing yeast to thrive. Yeast does well in moist environments.
Each time that I have been treated with antibiotics, I have ended up with yeast infections of the penis/glans/foreskin, bowel and oral trush. Yeast can be very difficult to get under control.
Hi.. has anyone else taken macrobid for uti?? Is it normal to feel horribly sick with it? How did you all deal with the nausea? My doc gave me reglan but it doesn't seem to be helping and I'm hardly half way with macrobid.. I've been non functional while taking it and it's getting worse every day.
Any advise on dealing with it will be appreciated..
I will probably go to the doctor tomorrow for an official dipstick test, but I am worried that they will error on the side of caution and prescribe Septra or Bactrim. I am terrified, literally terrified, of trying a sulfa drug because of some of the horror stories on the net. Perhaps I shouldn't be looking at those accounts.
Nonetheless, is there any reason to think that my problems with some antibiotics will be universal? I have successfully taken erythromycin, zithromax and biaxin.
I noticed when I am about to finish peeing, I feel a dull ache/pull feeling near the right side of my urethra area. I also feel a twinge pain in my lower right abdomen after I pee. I don’t feel burning pain, no cloudy or smelly urine and no blood. Went to see my PCP and did a urine test and found white blood cells. So he prescribed me Cipro (stopped after 1 dose due to a reaction) and now on Bactrim (7/10 dose now).
ve had costovertebral angle tenderness since all of this started, which IS NOT a sign or symptom of a UTI, its a s/sx of pyelonephritis. The medicine that the doctor changed me to yesterday, ovet a week after I was initially in the ER is Keflex, commonly used to treat pyelonephritis, not a UTI. I'm livid.
Then next time the doctor prescribes her on another type of antibiotic and then same thing happens, she is okay the first time she has to take it and usually the second but around the second or third time over a course of 3 to 5 years, she gets the urticaria again after taking the same antibiotic that she used for 3 or more years. Then the same pattern happens with other antibiotics that she has to take for a UTI etc.

C procedure to have intercourse and within 2 days I had symptoms of a UTI, so I self-treated (based on past doctor discussions) taking 2 macrobid daily for 3 days. I then used a test strip over a week later and did not have signs of a UTI so my husband and I had intercourse last night. I now have symptoms of a UTI (urgency and burning).
