Common Questions and Answers about Macrobid kidney infection

macrobid

Avatar f tn I went to UC for kidney infection/kidney pain in my lower back rt hand side. The symptoms were severe the night before. Left a urine sample and was told i have a bad bladder inf. Dr prescribed macrobid. Then next morning my lower back was hurting again, same spot. Will macrobid help clear up a kidney infection?
Avatar f tn Uti or bladder infection. My doctor proscribed me macrobid. Terrified to take it, anyone else had to use this while pregnant, I'm only 8 weeks!
Avatar f tn Having an untreated infection to on is dangerous for you and your baby. It can cause you to have a kidney infection and go septic (which is when the infection gets so bad it goes into your blood stream). Take the meds and you'll be fine!
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if macrobid affects eGFR or is this level an induction of possible kidney infection/disease/cancer? I have been experiencing dizziness and nausea which one doctor said was labyrhinthitis (I did have a confirmed bacterial ear infection) but an ENT disagreed and said I still had to compensate from the bacterial infection (5 months ago). Just want to make sure there's nothing else I'm missing.
2176548 tn?1340677817 Anyone here had a kidney infection before? What helps for pain? And how long does the pain normally last??
666089 tn?1260520261 i was just given macrobid by my doctor to treat a bladder infection. i know that he wouldnt give me something that would be harmful, and not treating it would be more harmful then taking medications .. i would just like to hear if anyone eles has taken this medication for a uti and if they had any side effects with it? i tryed to look for infromation on the net about it but there were to many mixed reviews on this... or is there any other safer drugs you've take for uti's?
Avatar f tn I ended up in even more pain Saturday evening and they admitted me and finally realized it was a kidney infection. I spent from Saturday night until Wednesday afternoon. I was on iv antibiotics and iv fluids the whole time. I was discharged with instructions for modified bed rest and had to take macrobid the rest of my pregnancy to avoid it reoccurring. I ended up having my son at 35 weeks.
1541328 tn?1293054222 First off, I want to inform you that I have been diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis and have had consistent UTI's since I was 5 years old. Three days ago, I noticed a gradual discomfort as a UTI was setting in. Since I don't have health insurance due to this pre-existing condition, I drank a ton of water and took OTC bladder relief pills (similar to urimax). This morning, I woke up with a lot of pain.
Avatar m tn However, it alleviated the pain, which I thought was a little price to pay for fighting off the kidney infection. On the 7th day I decided I was going to follow up with my family physician to ensure that these works are working because 7 damn days and I was still in pain so perhaps my body was resisting them or something. Honestly, I was freaking out!
Avatar f tn I'm a ftm too currently 27wk and around 22wks I had went to my doc complaining about the same thing burning after urinating and the test came bak negative for a uti but the pain did not go away so I went bak a few days later and sure enuff it was a uti so they prescribed me macrobid and I was fine for about a week after but then I had to go bak to the hospital becus all the pain came bak.
Avatar f tn I am 16 wks. pregnant and my OB prescribed Macrobid for UTI, i had urinalysis and small amount of blood was noted. I told my OB that my urologist said that im always will have blood in my urine beacuse of hx. of cyst in my kidney so I requested to have urine culture prior to taking Macrobid, my OB is insistant to start the med. since it is going to take awhile for culture results to come back. so im already in my 4rt day of the meds.
Avatar f tn I had passed a kidney stone 2 days ago and got a bladder infection. I was placed on Macrobid 100mg and noticed I was bleeding and my period doesn't start until next week. Is this normal?
1355431 tn?1369975306 It's listed as a Category B drug and is usually very safe while pregnant. Usually miscarriage is caused from something wrong with the child itself. Often when something goes wrong we look for a scapegoat and this can coincide with taking this. In fact I've actually heard that an untreated UTI/Kidney Infection itself can cause miscarriage. Don't be scared, your doctor would never prescribe anything unsafe.
5601615 tn?1383450616 Im taken keflex which is a really good antibiotics i took macrobid last time and it didnt work so they put me on keflex for my uti
Avatar f tn I was taking it for a UTI & double kidney infection. But now, my period is not due for another 2 weeks. And I know of 2 other women in their 40s who did experience the same thing with the bleeding. I just want it to stop. So annoying.
Avatar f tn ve finally been hospitalized with a kidney infection. The doctor said the good news is I caught it early despite none of the typical symptoms. She said the baby is fine but I can't help but worry. I'm here for a few more days connected to IV fluids and antibiotics. Has anyone else who's been through this have any advice for getting through it and making sure it doesn't happen again?
Avatar f tn So I have been in agony all weekend in my lower right back and lower right abdomen. It has gotten progressively worse and now I actually can't even move it hurts that bad. :( I have a Drs appt in half an hour to check what it is. I really don't want it to be a kidney infection. But whatever it is I am in complete agony. I feel sick and the pain is so bad. Is this really bad for my baby girl? I'm 22w today.
9956829 tn?1410151895 I would get the antibiotics from my dr. A uti can turn into a kidney infection literally in a flash and those can become a bloodstream infection that can terminate your pregnancy. I didnt know that til one hit me out of the blue.
Avatar f tn So I've had THE SAME urinary tract/kidney infection since December/January of this year. I have received antibiotic shots and taken macrobid off and on since, but it has not gone away. I am now on a different antibiotic (4x a day), but do not feel any better. This isn't the first time this has happened. A few years ago I had the same problem. I tried every antibiotic (cipro, zithromax, amoxicillin, etc.) and macrobid was the only one that killed it.
Avatar f tn I am 19 years old, female, and I’ve dealt with UTI’s all my life. The doctor told me I could have a kidney infection based on the symptoms. He prescribed me Cephalexin for 10 days. The bleeding stopped and the pain after urination. I decided after day 4 to switch to Macrobid and it is day 3 and I still have mild urgency. What do I do?
1088689 tn?1258173691 and they said that my urine was clear (no infection) and everything else looked fine..but that because of the blood they prescribed macrobid as a preventative. I did NOT take it, and I think I should have. So far everything's been fine but I've been worrying off and on since then despite feeling better and I would have been better off taking it just to be on the safe side.
Avatar f tn You need antibiotics. Your rememdies only help to limit uti not cure it.
551604 tn?1333983135 But its not safe for baby to let the infection go, it can cause preterm labour and possible get to the baby. The macrobid is for a uti but I was told when I had to take the bactrium that it is a different type of antibiotic for a bacteriol ( i cant spell sorry) infection, not a uti that you can more commonly get durring preg in your lady parts. So you might want to ask, thats why they told me it had to be the bactrium and not the macrobid that time.
5900973 tn?1396064391 I assumed it was just back pain since I never had one before but finally went to the er bc I couldnt breathe or walk, my whole back and leg were in too much pain. At the er I learned there was a point where a kidney infection would turn into a blood infection and could actually kill the fetus. I was RIGHT at that point so I had a few a/b's to take and rested for two days. Alls wel now and me and my baby are at a healthy 26+3wks now. Good luck and DONT WAIT!!
9309926 tn?1405447056 Yes a uti can turn into a kidney infection. I had a kidney infection at 25 weeks with my son it caused me severe pain puking high fever and dehydration. It sent me into preterm labor thankfully they were able to stop it I spent 4 days in the hospital on iv fluids and had iv antibiotics.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with a minor UTI (my first one ever) about 8 days ago. They gave me a three day dose of Macrobid - which I did not consume. I am too afraid. I am allergic to the cillins (anaphylaxis), and have had a horrible reaction to quinones. Every time I thought about putting that little Macrobid in my mouth, I would start to panic. The following day, without the Macrobid, my symptoms were much improved. The day after that - even better.
Avatar f tn Mine went away after 3 or 4 days. When I was hospitalized with a kidney infection I had cipro through an IV for 4 days and was on Zofran round the clock (every 4 hours) because it made me sick the entire time.
