Common Questions and Answers about Macrobid and urinary tract infection

macrobid

493068 tn?1224765315 The condition occurs when the normally clean lower urinary tract is infected by bacteria and becomes inflamed. Urinary tract infections are very common. Most of the time, symptoms of a urinary tract infection disappear within 24 - 48 hours after treatment begins. However, if the condition occurs more than twice in 6 months, lasts longer than 2 weeks, or does not respond to usual treatment, it is considered chronic. The elderly are at increased risk for such infections.
405998 tn?1222396217 Your doctors may just want to directly visualize these structures to rule out any source of the persistent hematuria( blood in urine) considering that there is currently no infection and your scans did not show any structural abnormalities and urinary tract stones. Usually cystoscopy is requested when urinary tract infections have been ruled out through urinalysis and urine culture and when urinary tract stones have been excluded based on imaging modalities.
Avatar m tn I was ready to move on but now my girlfriend has a serious urinary tract infection and I have been performing unprotected oral on her as well as unprotected vaginal sex. And oh yea i found out that she is 10 weeks pregnant. Iam freaking out please help!!!!!
Avatar f tn So I've had THE SAME urinary tract/kidney infection since December/January of this year. I have received antibiotic shots and taken macrobid off and on since, but it has not gone away. I am now on a different antibiotic (4x a day), but do not feel any better. This isn't the first time this has happened. A few years ago I had the same problem. I tried every antibiotic (cipro, zithromax, amoxicillin, etc.) and macrobid was the only one that killed it.
Avatar f tn Talk to your doctor about this immediately. My understanding is Macrobid has been known to cause problems when taken during late pregnancy: "If you get recurrent urinary tract infections or if the infection gets into your kidneys, your caregiver may recommend taking nitrofurantoin (trade name Macrodantin or Macrobid) for the rest of your pregnancy to prevent another infection.
Avatar f tn m 10 weeks 6 days and I think I have a uti I had a little one the er gave me medication but it makes me sick and I throw up so I looked up and down the pharmacy isles and found it I took 2 but then I looked at info on it but I'm kinda scared for my baby can't contact my doc until tomorrow morning and its not bad to go to the er
1100598 tn?1413127426 He decided to treat me for a UTI based upon my symptoms and gave me a 3 day course of Macrobid. The symptoms cleared up and then returned within 2 days of finishing the medication. I noticed that the sediment looked purulent on the toilet paper but dried like chalk if I got it on my hands. Upon returning to my doctor, the urine dip was once again normal other than "Trace" WBC, so he sent it in for micoscopic evaluation, which has not come back yet.
Avatar m tn I would ask the doctor for testing for autoimmune problems and things like CMV, etc.. If your culture comes back negative for a urinary tract infection and your white blood cells aren't showing an infection, you need to be cautious about taking antibiotics, as your body can build resistance to them.
Avatar f tn Hi! Oh sweetie, that's a classic sign of a urinary tract infection! So uncomfortable. I would go ahead and call your doctor as you should be beginning to feel better. They can also give you some tablets that help with that pain but I'd get checked again if you still are having painful urination after three or four days on antibiotics. While you have to take the full course of pills you normally feel better within a day or two. https://www.webmd.
Avatar f tn yes I have been to the doctor and told that they are UTI's...and my husband has good hygiene so I don't think that's the problem...perhaps I am just more prone to getting them! And I'm not familiar with a macrobid...what is that?
Avatar f tn t go away without it. Macrobid is safe during pregnancy. Having an untreated infection to on is dangerous for you and your baby. It can cause you to have a kidney infection and go septic (which is when the infection gets so bad it goes into your blood stream). Take the meds and you'll be fine!
Avatar n tn She started me on Macrobid and told me to take another test. When reading the leaflet for the home pregnancy test it says antibiotics can effect the resulst so should i take the test or wait till the antibiotics are done.
Avatar m tn Two months ago I was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection after going to the doctor for bladder pain when urinating. I was prescribed macrobid which cleared up the symptoms within a week. Since then I have been ejaculating less than half the amount I usually do, even if I abstain for 3 or 4 days. Additionally, my semen appears to be a lot more clumpy. It doesn't seem/feel like everything is *coming* out. What could have caused this change? What can I do to fix it?
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? Pain in the back which is followed by pain in the side with increased urge to pass urine can happen due to infection, STD's, enlarged prostrate, prostatitis and tumors in the urinary tract.I think it could most probably be due to enlargeement of the prostrate, which is causing frequency and urgency. I would suggest that you get a STD panel done, urine analysis and culture. Also get a DRE of prostrate done. Consult a urologist with the reports. All the best.

Avatar n tn Ive had a urinary tract infection for going on 6 weeks now. Ive been treated over and over and nothing seems to be getting rid of it. I dont have a regular dr so I am relying on trips to the er to help me. I am now so sick with the infection that I am throwing up and am in so much pain. I have a very serious history of kidney stones as well which doesnt help much either. I just had my last stone removed about 3 weeks ago.

Avatar n tn In what dose and for what duration might it be prescribed for if the infection was caught early and is considered mild and isolated in the lower urinary tract for the time being? Thank you so much in advance for your help.
4251679 tn?1370305531 UTIs are exactly what their name describes. and infection in your urinary tract. its not in your vagina, however, ive always been told not to have sex while you have one because sex could be the cause of it. and its best to make sure its all better before introducing even more bacteria. Ive never heard of it being contagious, and dont think that it is, but ask your doctor. and ive also never had a cream to use, so im not sure what thats for.
Avatar f tn Has anyone got a urinary tract infection during pregnancy? Was it uncomfortable and a little painful at times? once treated did the uncomfortablness go away? I think I have one I have a drs appt in 4 days is it safe to wait until then?
Avatar n tn You may not even have to bring your dog in for an exam if the urine is positive for a simple urinary tract infection (an infection without crystals). The vet can simply give appropriate antibiotics. If your dog has crystals in his urine, the crystals would need to be identified and treatment instituted. Crystals can be dangerous in male dogs because if they become large enough they can become lodged in the urethra and cause blockage (even in dogs, though more common in male cats).
Avatar f tn I’m 20 years old. I have a urinary tract infection(coliform). A doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 625mg + Tamsulosin medicine for 10 days to me. I have a side effect after taking Tamsulosin (Retrograde ejaculation) or any other ejaculation problem. Is this normal or should I stop using Tamsulosin? Or will it (Retrograde ejaculation ) recover after stop using ten days? Should I keep getting Tamsulosin for 10 days or stop?
