I'm a 31 female and have had 20 uti's in the past 2yr. Recently I had 3 uti's in one month. Each uti becomes more painful than the last (dysuria, pain in lower abd). I have cultures done on all UA's and all result in lacotbacilli growth only. I have tried a daily dose of macrobid, urination after sex, increase in fluid intake, cranberry tabs, and every thing else that my doctor has told me to do.
I have taken antibiotics 4 times for a bladder infection, they are not helping. My gyn never did a true culture of the urine just a dipstick which shows a small amount of white blood cells. I am going to another doctor Friday, if I can take the pain until then.

Have you been tested for intersitial cystitis? It is a shame that there are no urogyno's in your area, but I think all you can do is try a different urologist or persist with the one you were already seeing. good luck.
3. If so since I have bascially been on macrobid for almost two weeks how long should I wait before I take the gonherrea/chlymadia urine test? When will the results be accurate?
4. Is there some other cause even std related I should be exlporing with my doctor? I have grown tired of just going in for the same tests with no real improvement other than just a couple of weeks here and there with relief.

I had a routine screening for a few things things last week. She prescribed Macrobid. I have NO symptoms of a uti. When I looked at the culture report it stated 50,000 - 100,000 colonies forming for Lactobacillus species. After doing some internet research I am confused why she immediately prescribed antibiotics. I bought an over the counter test and it showed trace leukocytes and no nitrite. It is very unusual to have a real infection from this type of bacteria.
Ever since I have requested macrobid as the others still have failed to work. Now it appears as if macrobid no longer works. Also, for two years I have had blood in my urine (even when I don't have a UTI). I was also diagnosed (when this first recurrent infection occurred)
with interstitial cystitis (sp?), but after seeing a new urologist last fall and undergoing a procedure to look inside my bladder, he told me I did not and took me off of Elmiron.
Hi, The first issue is--what is your diagnosis? You didn't mention it but what did the urine cultures while you had symptoms show? To have IC you have to have symptoms with a urine culture showing no infection. IC usually doesn't cause dizziness, headaches and extreme thirst. You hay have a second disorder going on unrelated to the bladder symptoms. Are you a diabetic?? The potassium test is not a good test to determine if you have IC.
Thanks for the answers! If it was cystitis, what would they find in my urine culture? The gynecologist that did a recent precedure on me didn't have time to look at this issue so she sent me to a urologist. The urologist mostly looked at the frequency of infections and doesn't know why I have pressure since my bladder is emptying well. My culture also was good. What other symptoms would there be to look for if it was a reproductive problem?
I then went to the doctor and was treated for UTI with antibiotic Macrobid (the urine culture later came back positive for Staph).
This was over three weeks ago now. Macrobid was 5 day dose, I took the full course. I didn't notice all that much improvement even over the course of a week, it was very gradual but still pretty miserable a week after I started the antibiotics. So I went back to the doctor. He put me on Cephalexin. I took it for a few days.
If you are still having urinary tract infection type symptoms, but the culture comes back negative, you might ask the doctor if he would check you for interstitial cystitis, which can give symptoms mirroring a urinary tract infection.
Stress in itself can make you feel tired, so taking steps toward stress management would be a plus if you are having anxiety due to stress.

The only thing I was ever told I could take for it since I was pregnant was Macrobid. You should call your doctor tomorrow and ask about the Macrobid. Also try drinking cranberry juice, or if you can't stand it (i can't) try the OTC cranberry pills, they should help just the same as the juice. I forget exactly how its supposed to help but it does. DOES MACROBID CAUSE BLEEDING OR MAKE YOUR MENSTRUAL CYCLE COME EARLY. I JUST FINISHED MACROBID 7 DAY TREATMENT. MY MENSTRUAL CAME 3 DAYS EARLY AND THERE IS BRIGHT RED BLOOD AND USUALLY MY MENSTRUAL BLOOD IS NOT THAT BRIGHT. I INITIIALLY WASNT DUE FOR MY MENSTRUAL UNTIL YESTERDAY I'VE BEEN BLEEDING SINCE THE 3RD AND IM STILL BLEEDING BUT NOT ALOT LIKE I WAS YESTERDAY AND THE DAYS BEFORE BUT THE BLEEDING HAS LIGHTENED.

I do know that the weakness and numbness in one side can be caused by the MS, but it did not occur until i took the macrobid. I was stopped from taking the macrobid and started on it 2 more times and each time the weakness returned. Is there anyway to fix this?
