Common Questions and Answers about Macrobid and ic

macrobid

Avatar f tn I recently noticed while taking macrobid(I have IC) I also had bright red spotting!
Avatar f tn Hi, The first issue is--what is your diagnosis? You didn't mention it but what did the urine cultures while you had symptoms show? To have IC you have to have symptoms with a urine culture showing no infection. IC usually doesn't cause dizziness, headaches and extreme thirst. You hay have a second disorder going on unrelated to the bladder symptoms. Are you a diabetic?? The potassium test is not a good test to determine if you have IC.
Avatar n tn They may be trying to rule out all possibilities of infection before considering Interstitial Cystitis. i have IC and am the support group Leader of MOARK IC, here in Missouri. My URO believes many IC patients are actually misdiagnosed chronic infection patients and will not give an IC diagnosis until fulling trying the long term antibiotics etc. If you continue to have uti symptoms but not UTI showing etc.
Avatar f tn I’ve been suffering from IC for 5 years now and for some odd reason Nitrofurantoin/Macrobid seems to work well for me, even when my urine culture comes back negative. I take it (100 mg X 2 for 10 days) when my IC flares and within a few days the symptoms are essentially gone. They often come back 3-5 months later, but at least it works temporarily. My doctors have no idea why this medication works, but it’s been working pretty consistently for the past 3-4 years now.
Avatar f tn My 21 yr. old daughter has become sexually active within the last 6 months and has suffered what we thought has been 2 UTI's.. Severe bladder pressure and frequent urination. She was cultured with no sign of infection and given macrobid..didn't work...and then given levaquin and prescribed 800 mg. of ibuprofen every 4 hours. This episode took 9 days and 2 different doctor visits to get better.
Avatar f tn 57 year old female. Hx of IC for 25 years that with burning, frequency and microscopic blood in urine at age 32 Treated for UTI’s but negative cultures. Saw urologist. Did Cysto and found IC (bleeding areas when bladder extended). Symptoms much better after distension. On and off through the years symptoms would return. Had microscopic blood at times. Had a few UTI’s as well. In 2017 had some frequency and pressure for a few weeks and then episode of gross hematuria. Put on Cipro.
Avatar n tn She started me on Macrobid and told me to take another test. When reading the leaflet for the home pregnancy test it says antibiotics can effect the resulst so should i take the test or wait till the antibiotics are done.
Avatar f tn Also, after taking the macrobid, I got another urine test taken and there is minimal amount of bacteria in the sample. My GP said that this was normal since it's hard to get a completely clean catch.
Avatar f tn I next saw a new GP who did a full physical and sent me to a urologist. She said IC was unlikely and thought it was still BV based on discharge and symptoms. Prescribed 10 more days of Flagyl and cultured urine and vaginal sample. Day 2 of abx, no symptoms. By nightfall, symptoms were back. I did some research on BV and started doing the hydrogen peroxide douche followed by probiotic suppositories and finally felt like I was getting better. Much less frequency and urgency.
Avatar f tn It may be something for you to discuss with your Dr. And, 1 other thing is that for those of us with IC, cranberry juice makes the symptoms worse, in most cases. I also have had a bunch of kidney stones, and prior to finally being diagnosed with IC, I used to drink the cranberry juice like crazy, and wondered why my bladder symptoms did not get better??...now I know! My OB-Gyn is the 1 who first suggested I be checked for IC, and she talked with my Urologist.
Avatar n tn In October I started having bladder pain, instead of the normal feeling of I got to go it was just pain like I have been holding pee for a really long time. I went to the doctor and they did a urinalysis that did not show anything. But after they sent it out to the lab it came back with bacteria cause by Strep b- low amounts but still. She put me on amoxicillin(sp?). After 7 days I was still having that pain. We moved and I went to another doctor who said the same thing.
718939 tn?1353967695 I was given Cipro for 4 days and have now started taking Macrobid and am suppose to take it for two months. I am very worried....for my condition is debilitating because I can't hardly leave the house. I have made a urology appointment and hope they can figure this out. If you can offer me any advice I would be so gratetful. Thank you very much!
Avatar f tn But then two days after finishing the antibiotics, the symptoms came back and I had abdominal pain and kidney pain. I went back to the walk in clinic and was put on Macrobid for five days. After five days however, none of my symptoms seemed to be gone. I went to immediate care and they gave me another five days of Macrobid. I finally started feeling better by the 7th day on Macrobid. I took about two weeks to get rid of the UTI, and then I felt fine for about another two weeks.
Avatar f tn I was then placed on a low dose of Macrobid for 3 months. So now another month after cystoscope and 3 weeks on antibiotic and bladder control medication I have had good and bad days. Some days I feel good and normal then other days I feel like my symptoms are back. I have done a lot of reading to educate myself on how to get better so I changed my diet and have eliminated any bladder irritants, drink only water and started taking supplements to hopefully help heal the inflammed tissue.
Avatar f tn so yesterday I went to the doc and got a Rx for antibiotics (Macrobid) which I had not taken prior to today. Anyways, I took my first dose today as per the instructions, alongside 1000mg of Tylenol and 2 Azo (urinary pain relief), and about 8 hours later, had a violent vomiting spell. I recovered, ate a little, and now, 12 hours from the first dose (I just took the second dose) I'm having tightness in my chest and slight chest pain.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was in your shoes about seven years ago, and it certainly sounds like IC to me. The BIG question is, though, is whether or not you have a positive urinalysis when you have these alleged UTI's. Have they told you whether or not you have there is bacteria and/or blood in your urine? If so, you may be suffering from chronic UTI's, not IC. With IC there is no actual infection, and it is more inflammation and erosion of the bladder wall.
Avatar n tn t eat spicy food, no IC, and at my wits end with the stress of not knowing. There are NO UROGYNOs in Houston. What are the doctors missing? I have had cipro, macrobid, doxycyline, and now on prevacid.. HELP !!! I am 62 and otherwise healthy...
Avatar f tn The only thing that has kept the burning away is 100mg of Macrobid daily. However, sex still hurts and I still have some pain in my bladder. I also, get occasional slight burning still. I tend to be chronically dehydrated, because I find myself subconsciously avoiding fluids, because I realized I urinate quite often when I drink regular. One 8oz glass of water makes me go 3-5 times alone! I also have to get up at least once if not twice at night to go.
Avatar m tn Had a colonoscopy and endo shortly afterwards, then was diagnosed with gerd, gastritis and diverticulosis. Changed my diet and then went thru a series of breath tests and then was diagnosed with Sibo. Around that same time thought I had a uti, Went on cipro for 5 days and then felt fine for 3 days then felt like the uti came back. Had a urine culture no bacteria but lekoucytes. Went on antibiotics for 2 more weeks.
Avatar f tn I assume your urine cultures are negative and the doctor who did your hydrodistention saw the changes of IC. Symptoms of IC vary from person to person but burning, pain, pressure in the urethra and/or bladder are classic. There are a number of strategies to treat IC, but I generally start by educating the patient about the disease by giving them the ICA brochures and refer them to the web site for info. Secondly, I start the ICA diet in everyone.
Avatar f tn I have taken Macrobid and Bactrim two times. They have not helped me at all. I have also been having tailbone and lower back pain. Any ideas? I cant take the suffering anymore.
Avatar f tn Hi.. has anyone else taken macrobid for uti?? Is it normal to feel horribly sick with it? How did you all deal with the nausea? My doc gave me reglan but it doesn't seem to be helping and I'm hardly half way with macrobid.. I've been non functional while taking it and it's getting worse every day. Any advise on dealing with it will be appreciated..
Avatar f tn I am 16 wks. pregnant and my OB prescribed Macrobid for UTI, i had urinalysis and small amount of blood was noted. I told my OB that my urologist said that im always will have blood in my urine beacuse of hx. of cyst in my kidney so I requested to have urine culture prior to taking Macrobid, my OB is insistant to start the med. since it is going to take awhile for culture results to come back. so im already in my 4rt day of the meds.
Avatar n tn Any recommendations on treating IC symptoms in pregnancy? I used to take elavil and had to go off it when I got pregnant. I was ok for awhile, but now I'm having flare ups. What treatment options do I have?
Avatar n tn I was later diagnosed with IC, and prescriber 100 mg of amitripteline. It only works for a very short time and then the pain is back full force.I have had the bladder distention and many trips to the urologist. Can HPV cause IC and if so, how? I always wondered if the two were related- but now i am hearing of a new procedure- Sacrum nerve stimulator. If you have any information on either, please HELP ME! This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn Thank you very much for this information. I have Macrobid dated 2008. Will it harm me if I try to see if it works? Thanks again.
Avatar n tn I also have IC and am an IC support group leader, and director of MOARK IC. Some of us with IC to require pain management medications. If you are in constant pain ask your doctor for a referral to a pain management physician. However as far as exercise I also want to exercise but have increased pain! I am excited about two things I recently found and am adding into my life. One is Pilates for Pelvic Pain, by New Dawn Pilates DVD.
