Avatar f tn He is not against Morphine I take it for Cancer. There are several drugs for nerve pain Lyrica, Gabenpentin, Trileptal, and few others. For muscle spasms there are muscle relaxers the main ones are Bacolphen, Flexiral, and Zananflex. Many people need a combination. Some drugs work for some people and others for others. My MS Specialist sent me to a pain clinic. It might take awhile to get the right combination and dosage. It took me two years to get on the combination that works.
559187 tn?1330782856 Treating pain which is not neuropathic with Lyrica usually results in the pain not being addressed. And once started, Lyrica is hard to come off. I have known patients who have been taking Lyrica for years, with no pain relief, and having to use other painkillers alongside it. Their doctors do not take them off it. I don't understand this.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I take both gabapentin and amitriptilyne (Elavil) for my neuropathic foot pain. I started with 300mg gabapentin and worked my way up to 3600mg. I take 1200mg 3X/day. By itself it didn't do that much for my pain. We added 25mg amitriptilyne to the gabapentin and I saw some relief. We upped it to 50mg 1X/day and my pain was gone completely! I guess I'm luck not to have any side effects from either drug.
Avatar m tn You might want to talk with your doctor and discuss other options for treating neuropathic pain. something that i was learned is that when you are in a flare no matter what you are taking the symptoms and/or pain with increase. I do not have an official Dx right now other than that of neuropathic pain i am awaiting an MRI and my neuro appt this month. My mother has fibro which is why i am in this forum.
Avatar n tn My oncologist and pediatrist have me on b-12 oral and shots and Lyrica for the pain. Sometimes the pain is all that I can think of. What are others doing? Would a neurologist be able to tell me more about the pain in my hands? This discussion is related to Peripheral Neuropathy induced by toxic chemo.
Avatar f tn I have neuropathic nerve pain from a botched neck spinal fusion 2013. After 2 more spinal fusions to correct the problem it was determined that the problems i am having cannot be corrected. I am left with permanent damage and neupathic nerve pain. To add to it my lower back has disc compression issues. I have been getting injections for this when its unbearable, but im apprehensive about surgical treatment.
Avatar m tn The most common cause of neuropathy is diabetes; thus, this should always be tested in the workup. Treatment for neuropathic pain includes treating the underlying cause but also medications such as gabapentin and pregabalin may help. Since you are already on one of these medications, you should discuss with your physician if the dose can be safely titrated. Lastly, you should follow up with your primary physician. You may need a referral to a neurologist for a neuropathy evaluation.
Avatar n tn Hi. I don't have any experience with Lyrica myself, but I know that it's classified as an anti- epilepticum. Much used for it's analgetic properties(against peripheral and central neuropathic pain) but also it is indicated for GAD (not panic attacks) .
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone give me any views on carbamazepine for pain please?
1080243 tn?1262975363 Antidepressants - several of them - work well for chronic pain, though not so much for acute pain. Also, Carbamazepine is used for the severe pain of Trigeminal Neuralgia. Carbamazepine, gabapentin, pregabalin (lyrica), and several others we use were developed as anti-seizure meds. Then they were discovered to have great effects on different kinds of pain - mostly neuropathic pain. I think of it this way. Pain come from unhappy and spazzing nerves.
Avatar f tn com/content/d0j5051315242165/ 8 out of 10 is a lot of pain. Have they tried any other neuropathic pain med for you like the gabapentin mentioned in this studY? I'm so sorry you are in such agony -don't give up looking for an answer to help.
419955 tn?1203011044 I may or may not have SFN, but i do have some kind of neuropathy. I do take narcotics for the pain in addition to lots of lyrica and a small amt or amytripiline. antidepressants don't work for me, but narcotics do help me a lot. it seems like with the lyrica and such, I still have the pain but it isn't as overwhelming or i am too loopy from lyrica to care, but when I reduced the lyrica dosage and added in fentanyl patch, the pain was significantly reduced.
Avatar n tn Hello, I was looking for some treatment options for General Neuropathic Pain as the only diagnosis my dr can provide me after negative EMGs both upper and lower extremeties and complete work up including MRIs, bone scans, x-rays, and blood tests. My pain is debilitating sciatica like in both legs and ulnar nerve pain in both arms from shoulder down to the pinky fingers which feels like tightness in so many muscle groups. Pain for 2 years without answer or any treatment to help.
1359227 tn?1282522148 m giving up all hope of being pain free again. people when using a high dose of lyrica. it works for the pain but the side effects could be very dangerous!
Avatar n tn I've heard that Lyrica is good for neuropathic pain, but I wouldn't take my word for it - let your neurologist know that you're having pain and heat sensations, as well as anxiety.
Avatar f tn Burning pain tends to be caused by neuropathic pain. It's very common with Fibromyalgia and also with spinal issues. What types of medication are you currently taking for your pain?
Avatar f tn I take a combination of Lyrica and Elavil (amitriptilyne) for my neuropathic foot pain. It took a while to find the right combo. Initially it was gabapentin, then gabpentin + Elavil then Lyrica + Elavil. Elavil is and antidepressant. At some point along the way I added 10-15 LBS. I can't be sure if it was the meds, or the mass quantities of cookies I was shoving into my gob over the CHristmas holidays. (Being a baker can be hazardous to your waist!
147426 tn?1317265632 We were lucky enough to have a pain managment doc land on our forum last week. He has agreed to feed us some info on data, written for the person with no medical knowledge. He emails me the info and I will place it on the forum. I am so jazzed! PAIN - The Musical There are fundamentally two types of pain in world: "normal pain" and "neuropathic pain". Normal pain happens when someone kicks me in the shins.
Avatar f tn My dose dense was every two weeks instead of every three weeks. The pain was definitely neuropathy type pain. I now just have pain occasionally in my legs but still have the problem of going to sleep at night as soon as my toes touch the sheets the burning starts in my toes and works into my feet. I would again suggest talking to your internist about Lyrica and Cymbalta. Hope this works for you.
Avatar f tn I remember how excited she was when she discovered a medicine that worked for her nerve pain, Lyrica. She had relief for the first time in what seemed like years. But, as she told you it is expensive and can cause weight gain. The most important thing to remember, as Tuck and marycamel pointed out, is that not every medication works for everybody and so you and your Doctor will need to experiment and see which one's work the best for you.
