lyrica

382218 tn?1341181487 When I was taking Lyrica, I had better success with morning and night dosing (150 mg each). When I tried to add an afternoon dose(100 mg) I found that the increase in fatigue from the Lyrica coupled with my usual afternoon fatigue made it extremely hard to drive the 45 minutes to an hour home in rush hour traffic. For exacerbations of leg pain I tried a 50mg dose at lunchtime but it didn't help with the neuropathic pain and simply made me unable to focus and concentrate.
559187 tn?1330782856 Treating pain which is not neuropathic with Lyrica usually results in the pain not being addressed. And once started, Lyrica is hard to come off. I have known patients who have been taking Lyrica for years, with no pain relief, and having to use other painkillers alongside it. Their doctors do not take them off it. I don't understand this.
Avatar n tn My oncologist and pediatrist have me on b-12 oral and shots and Lyrica for the pain. Sometimes the pain is all that I can think of. What are others doing? Would a neurologist be able to tell me more about the pain in my hands? Avatar m tn I saw a specialist for something unrelated and found out that i had neuropathic pain a spasms in an area i was unaware i was having them. the speciallist put me back on nortriptyline but upped my dose from 10mg a bedtime to 20mg. It wasn't until i was weaning off the lyrica that i realized it actually was working because the pain i experienced while coming off was too incredible for words. maybe lyrica is not the best thing for you.
Avatar m tn Burning sensation is usually a pain syndrome associated with nerves, i.e.,neuropathic pain. It can also be associated with systemic disorders such as rheumatological and endocrine (e.g., the two disorders you mention). (Another cause of neuropathy is vitamin B12 deficiency). Neuropathic pain can be diagnosed by history and physical, and also may include an examination called EMG/NCS which assesses the condition of your nerves. This is performed at most neurology clinics.
1080243 tn?1262975363 Then they were discovered to have great effects on different kinds of pain - mostly neuropathic pain. I think of it this way. Pain come from unhappy and spazzing nerves. Thus, we can often treat them with happy medicine (anti-depressants) and anti-spazzy meds (seizure meds). It sounds simplistic, but it is closer to the truth that you might think. There is a strong correlation between chronic pain and depression. Each can cause the other.

419955 tn?1203011044 I may or may not have SFN, but i do have some kind of neuropathy. I do take narcotics for the pain in addition to lots of lyrica and a small amt or amytripiline. antidepressants don't work for me, but narcotics do help me a lot. it seems like with the lyrica and such, I still have the pain but it isn't as overwhelming or i am too loopy from lyrica to care, but when I reduced the lyrica dosage and added in fentanyl patch, the pain was significantly reduced.
Avatar n tn Hello, I was looking for some treatment options for General Neuropathic Pain as the only diagnosis my dr can provide me after negative EMGs both upper and lower extremeties and complete work up including MRIs, bone scans, x-rays, and blood tests. My pain is debilitating sciatica like in both legs and ulnar nerve pain in both arms from shoulder down to the pinky fingers which feels like tightness in so many muscle groups. Pain for 2 years without answer or any treatment to help.

Avatar f tn Is widely used to treat neuropathic pain. It is FDA approved for post-herpetic neuralgia. It has always been very effective in treating other forms of neuropathic pain. Neurontin has been demonstrated to reduce the symptoms from periodic leg movements during sleep (PLMS) also known as restless leg syndrome but dosing up to 2400 mg per day may be required. This drug is also widely used in the prevention of migraines and the list goes on.
Avatar f tn I have neuropathic nerve pain from a botched neck spinal fusion 2013. After 2 more spinal fusions to correct the problem it was determined that the problems i am having cannot be corrected. I am left with permanent damage and neupathic nerve pain. To add to it my lower back has disc compression issues. I have been getting injections for this when its unbearable, but im apprehensive about surgical treatment.

Avatar f tn I take a combination of Lyrica and Elavil (amitriptilyne) for my neuropathic foot pain. It took a while to find the right combo. Initially it was gabapentin, then gabpentin + Elavil then Lyrica + Elavil. Elavil is and antidepressant. At some point along the way I added 10-15 LBS. I can't be sure if it was the meds, or the mass quantities of cookies I was shoving into my gob over the CHristmas holidays. (Being a baker can be hazardous to your waist!

Avatar f tn m sorry to hear that no other medications have been effective in relieving your neuropathic pain. I am glad to hear that at least the Oxycodone has some pain relieving properties for you. I know you said that you had side effects with Gabapentin - which may preclude you from trying a newer drug, Horizant. It depends on what your side effects were - and how extreme. Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil) has been approved to treat postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) in adults.
1232362 tn?1333135406 The pain can be relieved with pain medication or lyrica which is indicated for neuropathic pain as in your case. If your pain medication do not work, stronger prescription pain medications may be indicated. In form your doctor about this if it persists. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn if the neuropathy does not progress (does not start to involve other nerves, spread upward etc), even if it does not improve (even if the damage is not reversed) this may be indicative of a response to therapy, even if there is still severe neuropathic pain. When there is not a good response to immunosuppression, another question is whether or not the diagnosis needs to be revisited, and other, non-inflammatory causes investigated.
Avatar n tn Certain antidepressants have been shown to be very effective in neuropathic pain independent of their antidepressant effects (meaning the chemicals affected by these medications help treat the neuropathic pain). These include elavil, doxepin, and others. Topical doxepin and caspasin cream are also helpful for neuropathic itching. Anti-seizure medications found to be useful for neuropathic itching include neurontin and lyrica.
