Avatar m tn A low-salt diet and diuretics may help with swelling in the hands and legs. Low-protein diets may be helpful. A moderate-protein diet approximately 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight per day may be suggested. Discuss your concerns with your nephrologist.I hope it helps. Best of luck and kind regards!
Avatar m tn What are the side effects of taking protein shakes? And how much protein is safe to take a day bot in shakes and total protein intake?
Avatar f tn I haven't heard that before but thanks for the tip Kolina24. This will be our last baby as I have a 90% chance of developing it again due to the damage to my kidneys and liver now. I get preeclamplsia because I don't grow very good placentas so baby doesn't get enough nutrition and oxygen, placing pressure on my liver, which leads to my kidneys leaking protein, which all gives the side effect of the high bp.
Avatar m tn You are approximately 20lbs underweight for your height. Eating right would keep your protein levels normal and your body looking normal in all areas including the face. For your age you need to consume between 2500-2900 calories per day to maintain your weight which is broken down to 3 meals a day, with snacks between meals.
Avatar m tn Harvard researchers put pre-obese people (they had just lost 10-15 percent of their body weight) on three different diets—a low-fat, high-carb diet; a low-glycemic diet with fewer carbs; and a high-protein, high-fat, Atkins-style diet. Each participant ate the same number of calories on each diet, yet at the end of the study, they found that people burned the most calories at rest while on the Atkins diet.
Avatar f tn I am wondering if my intake of protein is too low. I have always had normal to oily hair and it has suddenly become dry and frizzy. Has anyone else experienced this symptom after reducing meat intake?
Avatar m tn The side effects of too much protein are taxing to the kidneys. The only way you lower your cholesterol is if you are eating protein source foods that lower it, such as eggs, fish, chicken, nuts, and seeds. If you are consuming red meat, high fat meats, and high fat dairy products, then the cholesterol increases. Hoped this helped you.
Avatar f tn I dont have any chronic illness or disease.I feel healthy all the time but i am concerned with my very low weight. What measures should I do to have the proper BMI and gain weight....do protein weight gainers help me to combat this issue??
Avatar f tn I am a 61 year old post-menapausal woman usually at my ideal weight of 120 (5'4") I eat healthily and exercise regularly. In '98 I had a burst appendix with all the side effects - end result is 6 1/2 feet of the small intestine and 6 inches of the large were removed with the ic valve (so you know how careful I am about my diet) Even though I inject 1/2 cc B12 every other week, since nine days ago I am quite fatigued and have lost a pound a day.
Avatar m tn Writing in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Jupiter group described a study of statin drugs in people with high C-reactive protein and low cholesterol. (1) High C-reactive protein levels are associated with inflammation and heart disease/stroke. The authors concluded that, in apparently healthy persons with elevated C-reactive protein levels, rosuvastatin (Crestor) significantly reduced the incidence of major cardiovascular events.
Avatar f tn FIP is a possibility but I would be more interested in looking at causes of a low serum protein. Low protein causes a buildup of fluid in the abdomen and is often associated with a condition called exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Protein could be lost via the intestine (protein losing enteropathy) or in the urine (protein losing nephropathy).
Avatar m tn This has lead me to start eating a heavily non-protein rich vegetable and fruit based diet, and has helped my side effects and blood pressure significantly, but this means I have to avoid almost all “normal” food. Does anybody have any clue what might be wrong? I have asked my kidney doctor, but he doesn’t even make an attempt at explaining to me what might be the problem. I have listed a bunch of medical information and history below in case it is helpful. Any ideas at all are appreciated.
Avatar m tn Free from Toxic Heavy Metals or at Such Low Levels NOT to be a Health Risk. Many protein powders both whey and non-whey could contain dangerous levels of heavy metals like mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic. A recent Consumer Reports' evaluation showed some leading brands of protein powders exceeded United States Pharmacopoeia's (USP) recommended safety limits for certain heavy metals.
Avatar m tn Stomach upset Diarrhea Nausea Vomiting Fatigue Irritation of the conjunctiva of the eyes Skin rash Less commonly reported side effects include low blood pressure, anaphylactic shock, asthma attacks, and headache If you experience any of these symptoms after starting NAC then discontinue use. N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), is a metabolite of cysteine, a non-essential amino acid that is both found in foods and synthesized by the body from the amino acid methionine.
Avatar n tn What are some great quick and easy meals for breakfast lunch and dinner that are super low carb... I am a type one diabetic and because of the medicine im on its hard to loose weight... But this has worked in the past and I am bored of eating the same meals over and over ... Thank you !
Tbd If you are following this approach you eat adequate protein, probably in the range of 1 - 2 g/ kg of bodyweight (that is g of protein, not g of protein containing foods), about 25 - 30 g of carbs which should come mostly from non-starchy veges, and then enough fat to make up your energy requirements. This is a low carb diet, but not necessarily a high fat diet. Hope this helps you. Please let us know how you go!
1415174 tn?1453243103 I am vegan and use a vegan protein powder to supplement 20 grams extra a day. So my total protein is about 75-80 grams (not 95g). I read that you can get too much growth hormone (which is good for building muscle) but it creates insulin like growth factor (ILGF). Too much ILGF can potentially cause cancer. So that is what I am asking. What has anyone read about this.
Avatar f tn For about two years I've been dealing with symptoms that cycle - itchy skin (legs, abdomen, chest), rash (abdomen, chest), achy and stiff joints (mainly knees, hips, back, neck, wrists), blurry vision, low-grade fevers, extreme fatique. At first the symptoms would last for about a week, then leave for a couple weeks. As time goes on, there are less good days than there are bad days - typically 3-4 days of symptoms, then just general fatique and achiness for a couple days.
Avatar m tn In your case, chances of autoimmune disease are more as other blood tests are normal. The only other finding is low folate. Low levels can be due poor intake of folic acid rich food (green leafy vegetables, yellow fruits, avocado, beans, lentils, cauliflower etc) or due to malabsorption syndromes (IBS, tropical sprue, Crohn’s, celiac etc) or due to eating disorders causing malnutrition. Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please consult your doctor regarding this.
Avatar n tn My hemoglobin will get kind of low though...it has been as low as 9. My ferritin level low was 2 but at the time my hemoglobin level was still 11. They have done all kinds of tests on me without finding a reason...except that I have taken a proton pump inhibitor, Nexium, Prilosec for the last 4 or 5 years and I feel that it effects how much iron I absorb. I am not able to to take an oral iron supplement because it brings my heartburn on...
