Lotemax and dry eye

Common Questions and Answers about Lotemax and dry eye

lotemax

Avatar f tn 60 yr old female. Have been dealing with dry eye for over a year. Antibiotics, Lotemax drops, Lotemax gel, Blink lubricating drops, Now; Refresh PM gel, Systane Ultra lubricating drops and Restasis. Optimologist prescribed Restasis 6 weeks ago. Still not sure why eyes are red all of the time. Suggested allergy testing, which I have scheduled now. Optomologist says that he still isn't sure what is going on and wants to put plugs in my eyes.
Avatar n tn I have not had any problem for 7 months, until two days ago when I went for my annual eye exam, where I had my eyes dilated and guess what....yep woke up the next day with my eye red and watering. It has to be something in the eye drops.
Avatar f tn It was my right eye only and it was constant and bad enough that it was constantly frustrating and hard to make it through a day. I saw my ophthalmologist who told me it was allergies and gave me lastacaft. I had bad eye allergies as a kid but they were always itchy never watery. Anyway, the drops worked and the issue was gone. After a few months I stopped the drops to see if the allergies were gone, and I was fine for a few months. In August I was on a work trip and it started up again.
1958686 tn?1468782903 Hi, I had laser surgery a few days ago to repair a torn retina - since then, I have been experiencing light sensitivity, headaches, dry eye and nausea. Will all this go away over time? I was fine before the surgery. Thanks for any input.
184420 tn?1326739808 Have you been 2 an eye Dr?I had the same problem and the eye dr gave me restasis and Lotemax. Restasis takes about 3 months of use before it actually works, thats where the Lotemax kicks in-it is a steroid that helps the Restasis get to work faster. No more problems for me.Chronic Dry Eyes will do this to you.I was miserable with mine.
Avatar m tn My eye doctor told me I had inflammation due to dry eyes and put me on Lotemax for 2 weeks (1 drop in the morning and 1 drop at night) I was wondering if it’s safe to use for 2 weeks without any problems?
Avatar n tn At 6 days post-op I got an eye infection in my right eye and then my left eye a few days later. I had been prescribed Pred Forte in pretty frequent doses (everyday 5 times a day) immediately following the Lasik procedure. I went to a different doctor for the infection (I was traveling) and he told me the Pred Fotre doses seemed excessive and could have caused my infection. I went off Pred Forte for 2 weeks and now my Lasik Dr has prescribed I go back on them for the next 4 weeks!
Avatar f tn I sought a second opinion, and was told they could not find any foreign object, but my eye was in distress and dry, so i was told to contunue lotemax, and use gel drops. Weeks go by and still no relief, i still have pain(pinching/peircing sensation above eye, and general all over eye discomfort). I stop taking lotemax on suggestion of EMT neighbor. Eye calms down and now just have piercing/pinching pain only. I go see another Dr. He listens to story, looks at eye, puts me on Prednisone.
Avatar n tn He mentioned that I had a lot of protein build up on my contacts and did a stain and he said I had dry eye. He prescribed Lotemax .05 as a first step therapy. Being fearful of steriods, he said that this is a mild steriod and hasn't had anyone have any problems with it. He said it's completely safe. Well, one month later, he informs me that I have cataracts (posterior subcapsular cataracts) and that they are a .5 on a scale of 1-4.
Avatar n tn I suggest looking in to taking a daily multivitamin, adding a good amount of fish oil and flaxseed oil supplent, avoid lots of wind, dust, sunlight, ceiling fans, and dry hot air. Look into allergy drops like Pataday, frequent use of preservative free artificial tears, and possibly punctal plugs and restasis drops long term. Part of your problem may also be from using Opcon (a vasoconstrictor) for too long. You can get a lot of rebound redness when you stop it.
Avatar n tn Thank you Doctor Do you have any recommendations on a good brand of cromolyn? and how long do you think I should use it for? will it cause dry eye if I use it for too long?
Avatar n tn Look on this page in right hand side the gray box "This Forum's Experts" click on my name in blue which is an active link. It will take you to my home page. Click on "Blogs" and read the article on dry eyes. Dry eyes, blepharitis and MGD often occur together. I would suggest you ask your Eye MD ophthalmologist about a prescription for Avenova Eyelid cleaner and use twice daily. This removes the oil plugs that cause the glands to get infected.
Avatar n tn Are steroids such as Maxitrol or Tobradex *supposed* to help with eye burning caused by dry eye or can it make your symptoms worse? I'm dealing with allergic conjunctivitis (again!) and dealing with burning eyes. thanks!
Avatar m tn My eye doctor told me I had inflammation due to dry eyes and put me on Lotemax for 2 weeks (1 drop in the morning and 1 drop at night) I was wondering if it’s safe to use for 2 weeks without any problems?
Avatar m tn After a week of using the prescribed eye drops (Vigamox, Lotemax, Tobradex) it went away. The optometrist said the bacteria was gone and so I started wearing contacts after a day's rest. Within a day of getting off the medicated drops, there was a pink blur in my left eye. I continued using the medication thinking it was pink eye again. It worked for a week but now my eye is quite veiny. The doctor also had said that my eyes were very dry.
Avatar f tn The only new thing that changed in June was my dr started me on Cymbalta for nerve pain. I see him on Oct 7th, and will discuss the eye issue. It does say dry eyes can be a side effect, but it's one of the medications you can't stop without gradually tapering off. But I'm not sure if this is the cause, as I have had dry eyes for over a year, just not this bad. Thanks for your reply.
Avatar m tn My pressures range naturally between 20 and 26. I was then asked to go back on the steriod eye drop Lotemax which I was very worried about as the steriod eye drop Maxidex had caused my pressures in less than a week to rise to 58! But they said I had to so I started Lotemax and Iopidine. I took myself back to the hospital 3 days later as I felt increased pain and my pressures were rechecked at 30 and 36. I mentioned is this the steriod as 3 days ago they were 24 and 26!
Avatar m tn I went to my eye doctors office as a work in and diagnosed with concretions and dry eye. This doctor prescribed Lotemax, Restasis and told me I had chronic inflammation. He didn't check my pressure for glaucoma I didn't realize it until I went for my 6 week follow up and my pressure was 25 last year it was 14 and 16 and field tests looked good. So I may have drug induced glaucoma due to my family having it.
Avatar m tn I'm on Lotemax / Pred Forte and also on Ketorolac (generic brand of a perscription that I forget) which is an anti-inflamatory. I have access to Lotepred; is that the same as the Ketorolac, (anti-inflamatory)? Or, is Lotepred the same as Zymar (anti-biotic)? I'm trying to avoid renewing my perscription of Ketorolac for 8 more days.
Avatar n tn i have shown my condition to 3 doctyors and have taken different eye drops begining with VIGAMOX and more recently ZEDATIN and FML forte. my left eye appears smaller than the right eye, it is very red in the lower part of the eye as well as in the sides. these symptoms are present in the left eye as well but are not as severe. i also experience itching and irritation in both eyes from time to time. SHOULD I START LOTEMAX? will it be effective?
Avatar n tn Post eye exams are usually 1. allergy to eye drops. This is unusual and the problem would not last more than a couple of days. 2. Touching the eye with tissue while dabbing eye dry and scratching cornea. This is common. People often don't feel because the eye is numbed to check IOP 3. Pre existing cornea problems like dry eyes or corneal dystrophy like basement membrane disorder. Drying out from the numbing drops sets it off.
Avatar n tn My doctor said i would have to stop using Tobradex as the steroid has caused the raised eye pressure and prescribed instead Lotemax and Cravit to be used 6 times a day and Azarga 2 times a day. Upon reading, i just realised that Lotemax also contained steroid, so why is it given to me then? I have asked her and she said Lotemax rarely cause raise eye pressure. I am just not sure. Can a kind ophthalmologist assure me this is alright? Thanks.
Avatar f tn twice/day rest of your life. If you stop the dry eye comes back. Dry eye does not normally get better with time after age 40; usually not with people younger. But some young people that have dry eye due to medications such as for anxiety get better when the medication is changed.
Avatar n tn I am 30 years old and my eyes are so dry and I have crusty like material on my eye lashes. After many, many, many trips to the eye doctor all he says is that my tear lakes are dry and that my eyes are so dry, especially my upper lids that this is causing the irritation/redness and burning. He has checked my vision and its fine 20/20 and 20/25. I use restasis (5 months now) and not really a help. I also use Optive. I even tried washing eyes with baby shampoo.
Avatar m tn Right now I am taking lotemax, one drop in each eye in the morning and which will relief from the dryness for whole day. but it will come back once I stop it. but doctors recommended to not take long time this steroid but I am using from almost 5 years. please advise me what can I do to get rid of this?
Avatar m tn My dry eye is quite serious and it did cause a lot of pain. The artificial drop can only stay in the eye for less than 20 minutes.
Avatar f tn You might consider seeking a second opinion with a Dry Eye Specialist. There are multiple other treatments for the dry eye, no of which work rapidly (they take months). Restasis, Omega 3's, Autologous serum are just a few. For the blocked tear duct, visit with a occuloplastics specialist. Sincerely, Timothy D.
Avatar f tn My eye doctor just Rx'd Lotemax (4 weeks) & Restasis (for life) for my extremely dry eyes. They feel like sand is in them. I am concerned because from what I can understand Restasis works through the auto immune system. I am in week 38 of standard treatment and since week 16 of treatment have had a hypothyroid. Any advice? I also was told this morning to increase Procrit from 20,000 to 40,000 a week because Hgb was only 8.5 on this weeks lab.
