Over the past 12 years or so I have taken Lipitor, Pravachol and, when 200mg total Cholesterol wasn't good enough anymore, Vytorin, which brought it down to 160. But, at the end of all that about two years ago I wound up in the ER with severe kidney problems. The doctors said, don't worry about it, just muscle pains and sent me home.

I was prescribed Lipitor for high cholesterol in 1997. In 2001, following a sleep study, I was found to have restless leg syndrom and prescribed Sinemet for the symptoms. Over the years the symptoms increased, and I now have severe lower back and neck pain, joint pain (especially knees) and my RLS has become more pronounced. I now have the symptoms beginning much earlier in the day, so have had to increase the use of Sinemet.

I have been precribed Lipitor to take for lowering choloresteral and after reading all the side effects it scares me very much. I have a low fat diet and also enjoying drinking my red wine and hate the idea this medicine can effect my liver. Is there any other way apart from strong medicine like this I can take. My levels are not that high my Doc said if I start taking it now it will help reduce my chances of heart disease in 20-30 years.

t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.

Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). The starting dosage recommended for severe artery disease with crestor is 10mg, which lowers c-ldl by a whopping 46-52%. This is a lot, and most people don't need this much of a reduction, certainly that much of the powerful drug. You can get 5mg, but this is the lowest.
