Cost of lipitor vs crestor

Common Questions and Answers about Cost of lipitor vs crestor

lipitor

Avatar f tn Interesting! My insurance policy give me a cost reduction for simvastatin with the exclusion of Lipitor. My doctor wanted me on Lipitor; this occurred about 6 months ago. Hope it works out for you. Take care.
Avatar n tn My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
907968 tn?1292622204 As I understand it, Crestor is a bit stronger than Simvastatn, or should I say, You can take a smaller dose of Crestor to equal Simvatstatin. Other than the equivalent dose change is there any other differences - side effects I should be looking for?
Avatar f tn Yeah Robs on Crestor..Lipitor didnt agree with him. Costs him $34!
Avatar n tn 70 and if you are only on 5 mg of Lipitor the first thing I would do is to increase the Lipitor dose to 40 mg daily. Crestor is stronger mg for mg as compared to Lipitor but there is no data that suggests it is better.
678451 tn?1226425977 However the Rx. was written for 40 mgs, to take one half tablet every second day(since the cost of procuring the 40 mg tablet is significantly lower). Will taking 20 mgs every second day give me the same benefit of 10 mgs daily. Or, is it best to take the medication daily as oppose to every second day. It is difficult to split this medication to be exact(I use a pill spliter); Is Crestor a better medication than Lipitor in view of the recent study and exposure it has gotten.
Avatar m tn Hi all, My father had a triple by pass surgery about 18 months ago, and has been taking Lipitor, Perondopril and Atenolol. He's been getting abnormal hair growth on one side of his leg and back and chest since he's been on Lipitor, and Perondopril. I googled to see what I could find, and found this site saying that Lipitor can cause abnormal hair growth. http://www****.com/ds/lipitor/hair%20growth%20abnormal/ My question is, has anyone else taking Lipitor experience this?
Avatar m tn I've never heard of a statin causing anxiety, which doesn't mean it can't, but nowhere in any of my books on pharmacology does it link statin use with anxiety. Perhaps you have a very high sensitivity to something in them that is causing this reaction. What does your doctor say? I know he said he'd never heard of it, but did he research the other ingrediants in it as opposed to those in Lipitor? My next advice would be to talk with a pharmacist.
Avatar n tn The statins you listed all have been beneficial in reducing cholesterol. Studies tend to show that Crestor and Lipitor work more effectively but responses can vary with individual patients. Once you start your medication, your physician will check the levels again and can readjust the medication. Crestor has been shown to increase HDL in some patients but not all. Get your lab work retested after starting to see if there needs to be further adjustments made.
Avatar n tn There is an alternative to Lipitor (known to cause constipation) and the medication is called Crestor (tosuvastin) which is a little easier on the stomach and bowels. Never take Synthroid at the same time as other meds or you will get some side effects as it really is supposed to be given an hour before food, other meds etc and up to 4 hours before any vitamins. It sounds like you need your Synthroid meds adjusted which means it is wise to get a thyroid function test again.
Avatar f tn but I just wondered, are there others out there on Crestor, same dosage? Any words of advice? Encouragement? Would it be too early to experience any side effects from the med?
Avatar n tn When my insurance, years ago, would not cover Zocor any longer, I was started on Lipitor..both of which I was taking 60mg a day. The lipitor caused my severe muscle pains and aches and raised my CPK levels, to the point I would be in tears by the time I left work each day. Doctor was able to convince the insurance company to, once again, cover the Zocor. My lipids, triglycerides, and over-all cholesterol levels remained abnormal for years, even with proper diet, exercise, and statins.
Avatar m tn The Lipitor will cost me $130/mo., the Lovastatin will cost $5/mo. Aside from the obvious cost difference, which RX is better? The bottom line is that I really do not want to take a statin at all BUT if I have to take one, I want to take what will work the best at lowering my LDL levels. Also, if I've been taking a statin for a few months, can I just stop taking it? What happens if I stop?
10996785 tn?1432812977 There a lot of statin meds work in different ways, why not try another one, or at least, speak with a doctor about your concerns.
Avatar n tn t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
Avatar m tn Each new statin he tried gave me anxiety. Finally we tried Lipitor and I had no problems. I have been on 10 mg of Lipitor now for nearly 7 years with no problems. My insurance will no longer cover Lipitor. My doctor prescribed Pravacol and after 3 doses, I had an anxiety attack. It subsided when I stopped the medicine. A week later he gave me some samples of Crestor.
Avatar n tn I was on lipitor was many years but no doctor ever checked my blood. Last year I went off of this med because when I was hospitalized for something else they discovered that my liver enzymes were high. I'm still off lipitor and my enzymes flutuate from high normal to high. I'm wondering if the lipitor did damage to my liver. Also, I have some neurological issues which includes my muscles. Am wondering if the lipitor caused this. My total cholesteral is 226 and my LDL is 79.
Avatar n tn Could my shortness of breath. weakness and aching be cause by Crestor? I have seen a pulmonary doctor and a cardiologist. They say my heart and lungs are fine.
Avatar m tn I can't comment on the cost vs benefit of a better lipid profile but to me I'd go with the lowering of lipids to prevent future problems. Did you try the Niacin with aspirin to reduce side effects taken at bedtime? Niacin can do wonders on the LDL especially when there may be a corkscrew like protein attached to it and no amount of statin, diet or lifestyle change will impact the LDL but Niacin will. It is referred to as LPa and can be done in some advanced lipid testing.
Avatar f tn has me taking Lipitor for about that same amount of time for lowering cholesterol. Does Lipitor or any statin help prevent further carotid artery blockage?
Avatar n tn I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs. Has anyone experienced difficulties with this? Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn It's normal and those numbers are not really high. A couple things, first off doctors don't get too concerned until these get over 300. Also, statins have been show to be harmless to the liver. In fact, the FDA no longer recommends that doctors do additional blood tests to check for effects of a statin on the liver. Ask you doctor when they would like to retest.
Avatar m tn Last Month it was 74, it increased and he also told me that he will change my medecine from Lipitor to Crestor after two months blood test results. Please note that I have started Lipitor 10MG first 2 years. last 4 years I am taking Lipitor 20MG and 4 months befor my LDL was 3.
