Following a heart attack back in October 2007, I am not at much of a loss of memory. however at times I could feel how sharper my memory was before the onset of the ailment. I would forget for a moment even names of closely known people.The event is however brief and i would soon gain my memory back.I would attribute possible reasons for this to the score o medicines taken.

You are right in saying that statins may cause memory loss. Statin drugs cause terrible side effects for some users, including mental confusion, memory loss and a general loss of mental focus. The cardiovascular benefits of statins are well established,but the effects of these agents on the human brain are not as well established. The more lipid-soluble the statin, the greater propensity it has to cross the blood-brain barrier and affect the central nervous system.
Absolutely call her doctor about this situation and what she is experiencing. Memory loss and cognition issues are known to occur with this medication. Many years ago, a warning was issued about this side effect. However, there is also some conflicting data. ok he is having seizures... my husband passed away in 2004 after experiencing some of the same symptoms, all the tests done stated he was fine his brain never showed signs of anything. within a week he passed.
However, through exercise he developed calaterals around his 100% block LAD artery. He has been on Lipitor since initial MI and had the dose increaed since last angiocather test 3 years ago. He is 67 and has increasing fatigue, weight loss and muscle tone decline. He is able to work (farmer) but is increasinly fatigued. I want him to stop the Lipitor. Am I correct?

i m on simvastatin 40mg 1 every evening. i have noticed memory loss, i keep forgetting little things like where i kept my shoes or medicines and choice of correct words while speaking,
also when i m driving i lose direction sometimes to my home. i m also suffering from bi lateral TN, high bp and enlarged prostrate and multiple gall bladder polyps. i m on carbamezapine 200mg & neurontin 300mg twice a day of each.

re in an alcohol/substance related group - memory loss can be associated with drinking. It can be associated with many other things, too - from different medications, mental or cognitive health conditions, and even sometimes stress. I think it is very important that you speak to a doctor who can survey your health & lifestyle profile to work with what is known - and other factors that may not be known.

you might need to forget some of your most valuable memories to be able to regain your short term memory... Thats how computers work... when my computer starts running out of memory it gets a case of short term memory loss on a monthly basis!
