Lipitor and crestor

Common Questions and Answers about Lipitor and crestor

lipitor

Avatar n tn 70 and if you are only on 5 mg of Lipitor the first thing I would do is to increase the Lipitor dose to 40 mg daily. Crestor is stronger mg for mg as compared to Lipitor but there is no data that suggests it is better.
Avatar f tn The free clinic I go has switched me from Crestor to Lipitor even though my LDL is very high. It's a thorn in my side and won't budge even with Crestor. The cardiologist was even talking about adding another medicine to fight it. When I mentioned this to the clinic they told me every couple of years they switch drugs. So basically they can't afford to care about exceptions.
Avatar f tn Yeah Robs on Crestor..Lipitor didnt agree with him. Costs him $34!
Avatar n tn 1) In studies comparing equal doses of Crestor to Lipitor, Crestor has been shown to lower LDL levels ~10% and increase HDL levels 2-4% more than Lipitor. Your triglyerides, total cholesterol, and LDL's are in the optimal range, and your HDL level is in the middle. Based on these numbers, there doesn't seem to be a need to switch to Crestor. 2) There is little evidence on the use of EPA alone.
Avatar m tn My doctor has now prescribed 80 daily mg of Lipitor. This seems to be quite a change in dosage and the Lipitor pill is too large to be taken whole.
Avatar m tn Hi all, My father had a triple by pass surgery about 18 months ago, and has been taking Lipitor, Perondopril and Atenolol. He's been getting abnormal hair growth on one side of his leg and back and chest since he's been on Lipitor, and Perondopril. I googled to see what I could find, and found this site saying that Lipitor can cause abnormal hair growth. http://www****.com/ds/lipitor/hair%20growth%20abnormal/ My question is, has anyone else taking Lipitor experience this?
Avatar n tn The statins you listed all have been beneficial in reducing cholesterol. Studies tend to show that Crestor and Lipitor work more effectively but responses can vary with individual patients. Once you start your medication, your physician will check the levels again and can readjust the medication. Crestor has been shown to increase HDL in some patients but not all. Get your lab work retested after starting to see if there needs to be further adjustments made.
Avatar n tn Has anyone gotten worsening of their PVC's from taking a statin drug? I seem to be intolerant of these drugs and have tried Crestor, Lipitor and Lescol. My PVC's go absolutely nuts when I take them. I have done my own tests by going off and on them. I consistently get worse when I'm on them. I take C0Q10 and a whole bunch of supplements including magnesium to no avail. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn But my best lipid results ( raising HDL, lowering LDL and Lp(a) ) came from taking RX Niacin which I take with the 10 mg Crestor and 325 mg aspirin at bedtime. No problems with Niacin either.I take RX fish oil also as I am in big time prevention mode due to cardiac microvascular dysfunction.Fortunately my lipids have never been bad and my larger coronaries are clear but the lipids are only a piece of the total cardiac picture and the possible side effects of meds far outweigh my other risks.
Avatar n tn Last thing you want to take is a statin drug like Crestor or Lipitor which have known to cause serious, serious muscle problems and have even been linked to ALS aka Lou Gherig's Disease which will kill you in about 2-3 years due to paralysis! Beware! Not everything that the doctors say are safe truly are. Just listen to the disclaimer in Lipitor commercials. It is unbelievable that the general population are unaware of the dangers of cholesterol lowering drugs!
10996785 tn?1432812977 Like you, I pulled myself off of Lipitor (atorvastatin) because of muscle and joint weakness/pain and other recorded side effect. I had only taken it for about five weeks and the discomfort remains three weeks later. I had the same reaction to simvastatin, which I am told is the worst of the bunch. I'm waiting a few months and then I will try something with a less violent track record.
Avatar m tn Each new statin he tried gave me anxiety. Finally we tried Lipitor and I had no problems. I have been on 10 mg of Lipitor now for nearly 7 years with no problems. My insurance will no longer cover Lipitor. My doctor prescribed Pravacol and after 3 doses, I had an anxiety attack. It subsided when I stopped the medicine. A week later he gave me some samples of Crestor.
Avatar n tn I was on lipitor was many years but no doctor ever checked my blood. Last year I went off of this med because when I was hospitalized for something else they discovered that my liver enzymes were high. I'm still off lipitor and my enzymes flutuate from high normal to high. I'm wondering if the lipitor did damage to my liver. Also, I have some neurological issues which includes my muscles. Am wondering if the lipitor caused this. My total cholesteral is 226 and my LDL is 79.
907968 tn?1292622204 Both the PCP and Cardiologist want me to go back to my original 40mg Simvastatin and since Crestor has a one month trial offer for people in similar financial situations as I'm in, we're going to try that at 20mg. So, In essence, we're good to go as to the dose, it's just a matter of side effects which with research suggests most effects are similar to Simvastatin.
Avatar n tn The weakness and aching are signs of rhabdomyalgia which is a side affect of statin drugs. You need to see the doctor that prescribed the meds as he/she needs to check you. I don't know about the shortness of breath. It could be a drug reaction too.
678451 tn?1226425977 Lipitor has been shown in studies to reduce cholesterol and reduce cholesterol blockage that already exists. Lipitor is one of the best medications and a dosage of 10 mg is a low dose. Take Lipitor at bedtime. Daily would be better as your body has to adjust to the medication. Your doctor may move you up to 20 mg daily as your body adjusts.
Avatar n tn Fat-soluble statins like Lipitor and Zocor cause more damage than water soluble statins like Pravachol and Crestor. Hence the latter should be tried at lower dose. Possibility of hypothyroidism and diabetes should be ruled out as the presence of either disease can complicate the muscle pain. Please discuss these points with your treating physician. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
Avatar n tn t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
Avatar f tn has me taking Lipitor for about that same amount of time for lowering cholesterol. Does Lipitor or any statin help prevent further carotid artery blockage?
Avatar n tn i have just changed from Crestor to Lipitor and back again. No side effects. Why are you taking statins? You have a heart problem? What are ast and alt? I've been on stats for four years wnd never heard of them.
Avatar f tn I have not lowered my colestral with it or Lipitor. So I thought I would try something else and see if it works. My blood pressure has been under control since they took my thyroid out and I take medication. My problem is my sugar levels and my colestral. That is why I was wondering about red rice yeast.
Avatar n tn But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
Avatar f tn For more info on crestor and help and advice on hair loss and treatments. Please try www.livestrong.com on here u will find a search bar on top right of page type in crestor or hair loss and u will be directed to different pages . Thanks and hope you get sorted quickly.
Avatar n tn There is an alternative to Lipitor (known to cause constipation) and the medication is called Crestor (tosuvastin) which is a little easier on the stomach and bowels. Never take Synthroid at the same time as other meds or you will get some side effects as it really is supposed to be given an hour before food, other meds etc and up to 4 hours before any vitamins. It sounds like you need your Synthroid meds adjusted which means it is wise to get a thyroid function test again.
