My wife had seizure about 1 minute after her dentist injected her with lidocaine and epinephrine. The seizure lasted for about 1-2 minutes, her by blood pressure dropped to 90/55. She was very pale. What's interesting is that my wife is epileptic, but 18 months ago she was prescribed lamictal daily. Herr seizures stopped. This lidocaine induced seizure was the first in 18months.
s recommend that you continue with your regular dental visits because if you develop a dental related infection during pregnancy it can cause preterm labor among other things. That being said, I have read that 1st trimester work is the biggest gamble & have personally had a root canal done during my second trimester. My dentist would not use lidocaine because it's known to have affects on pregnant woman but he did use carbocaine whose direct affects on unborn babies are not really known.
There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Epinephrine is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.

I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this:

and he sprayed lidocaine with epinephrine up my nose. I had had some light nosebleeds after a fire we had at our place in Alaska, anyway he was checking for possible polyps. About 15-20 min after he sprayed it, I went into a-fib. When I called the office they told me it was probably not the lidocaine but instead was a reaction to the epinephrine. It landed me in the ER that night and since that single incident, I've tried to stay away from both.
This is the second time in two years this happens. The first time it was lidocaine with epinephrine; this time it was carbocaine without epinephrine.
I think the reaction resulted in slight chest tightness even. As I told the doctor, he stopped the surgery (he had not started it yet) and sent me to my primary doctor to get cardiac clearance.
I am 29 and have never had any heart problems.
They had to discontinue the Lidocaine because of heart side effects.But they finished with the other one and they thought that everything was fine and sent me home..The next day,BOOM! they hit with a vengence..P.V.C.S over and over again lasting for 3 weeks or so until they finally tapered off.They were happening around the clock when they hit and I swore if I ever lived thru it that I would never ,ever try any of the caines ever again and that any kind of PAIN was far better than this!
The amount is so small that I have never heard of it causing tachycardia, although this is theoretically possible. Lidocaine and epinephrine is used in the suturing of millions of wounds every year with no cardiac events. My guess is that that is a coincidence here. The temporary fast heart rate in the absence of chest pain, pressure or other symptoms should have no long-lasting effects whatsoever. An EKG will verify that because tissue death is reflected in an abnormal ST segment.
9 days ago my new dentist gave me a large dose of lidocaine/epinephrine on back molar (#17). Deep filling was needed. Most of my tongue has been numb since this procedure and I have had heart palpitations, chest pounding off and on since this happened. Also start shivering off and on. For past 3 days I have had chest pain when lying down...chest feels like it is being squeezed. Feel it now in any position but lying down increases the feeling. For past 2 days intense headache.
I recently went through a similar experience with lidocaine. I had a ruptured cyst in my breast and as it had broken through one of my milk ducts it had developed an abscess. The doctor wouldn't let me leave without having a butt shot of antibiotics - she wanted fast acting because I had a high fever and my breast was the size of Mount St. Helens. When the nurse came in to inject me she made the mistake of telling me that it was antibiotic PLUS lidocaine.
THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH MY SON TODAY BUT THE THING IS THAT THE DENTIST WAS HONEST AND SHE SAID THAT DURING THE INJECTION OF ANESTHETIC SHE ASPIRED INSIDE OF THE SYRINGE BLOOD SO NORMAL SHE GAVE MY SON 2.0%LIDOCAINE STRAIGHT INTO THE BLOOD VESSEL SO IT WENT STRAIGHT TO THE BRAIN.I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY THE DENTIST DOESNT LOOK BETTER TO SEE IF ITS ANY COMPLICATIONS AND ANY BLOOD AND THEN IF ITS SAFE TO PROCEED.?

Just as the doctor left the room after shooting him up with the novacaine on both sides of his mouth top and bottom he went unconsious and had a seizure. The doctor stated it was because he fasted and was nervous. He has never had a seizure before but it was deffinately not just passing out. What should I watch for as future side effects of this treatment?
It may be due to the epinephrine but since they removed that element, it could be either anxiety/nervousness or what we call lidocaine toxicity.

Over the past 10 years I have had reactions to lidocaine (ended up being taken by PARPAMEDICS
to ER) passed, out had shaking seizures, swollen tongue - could not talk for over 3 hours, could not breathe,
5 years ago - Carbociane, petite seizures, trouble breathing.
Today - Tetracaine, tingling tongue, somewhat swollen, cough difficulty swalling, and nearly
passed out., Dr then gave Epinephrine - flush, really hot, and constant shaking for over one
hour.
I also found out from my Primary Dr and Cardiologist that that Lidocaine and Septhacaine people with heart conditions can't take for because it can cause a heart attack and being I do not numb I have to be put under for the tooth extractions. Make sure you tell your dentist about your heart condition and he will tell you to get a medical clearance first because he will not touch you.
One time I had to go straight to the ER from the ear, nose and throat Dr because he had sprayed lidocaine or zylocaine with epinephrine into my nose, but my reaction came only 20 minutes later because od the way it was ingested. The Dr told me I just had a sensitivity to it. PS. I have never had a reaction like that to Vicodin. I think one of the "caine" drigs is more likely the culprit.
m wondering with my heart problem how dangerous is it to get a dose of epinephrine and how will that affect my heart? I had an epinephrine dose in the early nineties due to a breathing problem, but that was before I was diagnosed with the mvp and atrial misfire.
My dentist recommended holding off on my biannual check up until the 2nd trimester. Fillings, etc can also be done at that time. Unsure about whitening though..
