Avatar n tn Not all feline spays are performed using an endotracheal tube. If an endotracheal tube was used than the information that Ireneo posted is valid. Aspiration pneumonia can occur if your cat had not been completely fasted prior to surgery and NO endotracheal tube was used. However it can occur even with an endotracheal tube under some rare circumstances.
Avatar f tn When you have a general anesthesia you generally always have a tube down your throat ... this is an Endotracheal Tube which is how your breathing is controlled while you are asleep. There is nothing to fear from this .... your airway wouldn't be completely open and you couldn't be properly ventilated otherwise. You might have a slight sore throat as a result but any discomfort would be minimal. This is no more routine than having an IV placed for use during surgery.
Avatar n tn Would talk to your surgeon about this - it may be the endotracheal tube used to intubate patients for anesthesia. Salivary gland damage is not part of thyroid surgery. Gastro-esophogeal reflux is sometimes worse after surgery.
Avatar n tn A dog can cough after any procedure that requires anesthesia because an endotracheal tube is placed down the dog's trachea to deliver oxygen and anesthesia. The endotracheal can be mildly irritating, and cause temporary inflammation to the trachea. The Temeril-p acts as an anti-inflammatory. If the temeril-p is insufficient, an over the counter cough suppressant such as Vicks cough medicine or other over the counter cough medicine may help. Use 1/2 tsp. 3 times per day.
Avatar n tn My wife had a mastectomy of her right breast 5 days ago, and two sintenal lymph nodes were removed. The drainage tube was removed 2 days after coming home, as it was not draining properly. Now they are telling her to come in after 3 days to have the fluid removed with a needle through the surrounding tissue. However the nurse told her to wait one more day. The fluid is collecting and pressing on all the surrounding tissue -- becoming very uncomfortable and increasing over all pain.
Avatar m tn Also , you may want to ask whether the doctor you are choosing is using the nerve monitoring device - it is a special tube , either Endotracheal tube-based EMG monitoring, used for prevention of injuring laryngeal nerves which are very small in diameter, and in consequence relatively easy to injure by traction , or Dedicated EMG endotracheal tube(used by Anesthesiologist) It is a standards of care to use it , but not all surgeons are comfortable with it and not all use it.
698046 tn?1228077849 If your baby required assistance with a ventilator, it is likely that he received surfactant as a medication delivered directly to the lungs through the breathing tube (endotracheal tube). Surfactant is one of the medications that has allowed Neonatologist to take better care of premature infants.
Avatar m tn On the other hand I will venture to say in any ambulance in the United States if you asked, you would find the interior ansd the cot and the ambu-bag and the endotracheal spoon and the bandage scissors were never sanitized. One shortfall in hospitals is a failure to sanitize the buttons and controls on the televisions from patient to patient, as well as the handrails on the bed.
Avatar f tn In a severe asthmatic attack the trachea closes up tight and not all EMS crews are trained and certified in endotracheal intubation. If they get an endotracheal tube in, and the heart has gone into ventricular fibrilation, generally there is a window of opportunity to restart the heart using electro-countershock. The most common condition following an asphyxial episode is ventricular fibrillation. Sometimes, if the heart stops a hard fist on the chest will restart it.
Avatar f tn I have been having pain in my upper arms for almost 2 years. It started in my right arm and is now affecting both arms. The doctors thought I had a rotator cuff tear. I had surgery on my right arm 7 months ago. When they got into the surgery, they found out the rotator cuff was not torn, There was a piece of cartilage that had broken off and some bone spurs they smoothed up and said with therapy everything would be okay. Well it isn't okay.
Avatar f tn Generally patients can live with an endotracheal tube for two weeks before going to a decision as to whether to get a trach. The hospitals like to pressure families to get a trach to remove the patient from the critical care unit as soon as possible. You have my sympathies. Don't give up hope, but the outlook is not good for most patients in such a situation.
Avatar f tn First of all an endotracheal tube is usually used during general anesthesia to insure that an airway is maintained during surgery .. a good deal of general anesthesia today is via drugs and not necessarily gasses .. of course you are given oxygen during the procedure. As far as your underwear is concerned: people RARELY go into an operating room wearing their clothing; other than a hospital gown and some form of head covering. The operating room is a sterile area for your own protection.
Avatar n tn I am not sure where they put the drainage tube, as it is not a common practice any longer to use those! Was it placed in the vaginal cuff? Or was it brought out through the abdominal skin? I do not commonly use a drainage tube when I do hysterectomies. I would certainly not leave one in place if I did. Is it sutured in? Are the waiting for the sutures to dissolve? If I were you, I would seek another opinion and have the tube removed!
Avatar n tn I agree with gymdandee. I had it done two times without anesthesia. It is a dialation of the urethra. After the second time, I told the doctor I would never ever do it again. It was done in the doctor's office so anesthesia was not an option. I'd rather deal with the occasional UTI that meds takes care of than go through that awful pain again.
673999 tn?1226935279 Lidocaine 2 % Gel can be purchased in a tube. I frequently use it for application at night to calm my burning. This form can be mix for cocktails, it's what the the urology center uses. My doctor at the Urology Group would not allow me to self administer the IC cocktails, so being the bullhead that I am, I found one who would. In fact I catheterized myself for the first time today on my own. I'm quickly finding out what hoops to jump through to get the ingredients and supplies.

Avatar n tn In some cases, blood pressure problems run in families. Have you recently gained weight? That can make blood pressure go up. So can eating a lot of salty foods, fried foods, fatty foods; having a lot of caffeine (like in energy drinks, colas, etc.); drinking a lot of alcohol or taking street drugs. Stress can make blood pressure go up, too. I would check again and see what your blood pressure is.
Avatar m tn Most men have a problem mentally with the procedure as it hard to imagine that tube entering your urethra. All in all, I would repeat: it is not that bad.
Avatar f tn I have sores all over my mouth at the moment from chemo. Is there anything I can do to reduce the pain a little bit?I am finding it really hard to talk at the moment and eat-so sore. What can I do?My doctor said he might have to put in a feeding tube in but I really don't want that. Please help.
Avatar f tn Had a injury to kidney last September, said tube to bladder damaged. They said possible cause. Could that be the cause? I don't bleed daily but I notice when I do activity such as lifting or bending I start to bleed. I feel tired and dizzy.
Avatar f tn Hi, whew, that's rough. I'm sorry! So, first. Lidocaine patches. What about lidocaine cream? It's cheap, REALLY cheap. I've gotten it on Amazon for under 6 dollars a tube. You can spend more as well and it is going to last you and go a lot further than 2 patches. And I use it and it is helpful. You could look for alternatives. They also make a spray, also inexpensive. Ketamine infusions I've heard are pretty amazing.
Avatar f tn t think the cuff is so much the problem as long as the patient puts it in the correct orientation so the sensor is directly over the artery, or pretty close to it. I have seen portable units with tiny holes in the air tube, they also can get loose over time where they connect to the cuff, cheaper models simply have the air tube pushed on.
Avatar m tn Its a manual cuff. Could the cuff just give a wrong pressure reading? We havent had any problems with it in the past. Even if the cuff is wrong, im still curious why my pressure until a few years ago (and still occasionally, usually when im nervous) was always high but now is lower. Could it be anxiety, because I have been put on zoloft for anxiety to try and get balanced. My wife has had three days where she was extremely tired and feeling faint often.
Avatar n tn Ocassionally, patients who had mild arthritis in their AC joints before surgery develope worsening symptoms after rotator cuff surgery. If the pain persists, you should discuss it with your surgeon.
